... won't be so exciting - Kamala will scrape through and Trump will moan and then back down?

Can't see a thread on this, but if there is, please do tell me x

What, so you are saying that the majority of Americans are stupid, because they don’t agree with your views? Because if he wins, it’s down to a majority vote.

No it isn't. It's down to the voting system. Last time he won despite having 3,000,000 less votes than Hilary Clinton.

IdaPrentice · 05/11/2024 18:47

One interesting point is that around the world, people have suffered financially due first to covid, then (as a result of the invasion of Ukraine) high inflation, and many countries have voted for a change of government because of this feeling of not doing well financially. It's an old saying, isn't it, that people vote with their wallets, ultimately. And that could mean votes for Trump, unfortunately. Even though he's either deluded or a liar (or both) when he claims if he gets in 'inflation will vanish completely'.

Tbh, the actions at the last election were highly suspect, so you would hardly blame people for thinking cheating has taken place. Boxes being dropped off at polling stations at the dead of night, when the relevant boxes were already in the building. Polling station buildings locked up, and republicans who were checking on suspicious actions not allowed to enter whilst counting took place, amongst many other very dodgy actions. I honestly think corruption is alive and kicking on both sides in American politics. Whoever they get, America is going to be incredibly weakened, which is very worrying in a world which is kicking off at the moment.

Bullshit

Trump can understand many people and communicate with most people, his language is quite simple, it also comes across as genuine (agree with him or not) whereas Harris has an odd speech pattern, I assume she is using NLP or something with the odd repeated sound bites.

Analysis shows he speaks with the vocabulary of your average 9 year old. So yes, most people can understand him. Interestingly, about 10 years ago or more his speech was more sophisticated with a greater vocabulary. I wonder if the vocabulary loss is a symptom of slow onset dementia.

Trump will end the war by handing Ukraine to his buddy (or puppetmaster) Putin. Hardly a desirable outcome for the West

Yes, unfortunately I think that's how it will go, war in Europe. Americans do not want to fund Ukraine.

Actually no. He can win the electoral college and lose the popular vote. It’s not a particularly democratic system.

Edited to see this misinformation has already been corrected.

Against Joe Biden, he was clearly the fitter candidate

But he doesn't seem all that well tbh

Respectfully I disagree. At least Biden had an intelligent and competent executive with his chosen appointees Secretary of State etc who possessed reasonable integrity. Biden himself was too weak and old but still intelligent. Trump’s executive will be shysters and incompetent puppets out for themselves. Trump is and never was fit for office.

I assume they aren’t permitted to announce any exit polls until all states have finished voting so I think that’s 8pm on the west coast which is 4am UK time.

Nope you can find some now. I think Guam carried Harris it by 10% less than 2020. I’m deliberately not suggesting a poll to watch, but if you google you’ll find some.

Guam is a non binding vote.

Well, at least he can only do 4 years.

Hopefully he won't die just yet. I'm more scared of the VP.

Fund is the key word… we’ll cheer all day long for them but we have to stop pouring money into it.

I agree

I should say I meant strictly physically

Trump will do untold damage, way more than Biden couldve done, and agree that those around him will go along with whatever

The whole results thing reminds me of the scene in the film Citizen Kane. Kane, a business tycoon and newspaper owner, is standing for election. His editor has two front pages ready. “Kane Triumph”, for a win and “Fraud at the Polls”, in case he is defeated. This is exactly what Trump will claim about the outcome. The man is a narcissistic moron with zero self-awareness.

I'm pretty sure all the 2020 allegations of electoral fraud were declared to be unfounded, @Livelovebehappy, but see also my post at 18.08 about the extension of polling hours in Pennsylvania

Again, these incidents may be perfectly innocent in themselves, but it would be a lot better if they'd been avoided because in such a febrile atmosphere it's only too easy for conspiracy theories to start

It really is so costly 🥺

The amount the UK is spending on the esr, dwarfs the money given to the NHS by a crazy amount

Wow, yeah promising that inflation will be resolved will definitely get people on his side

I don't believe for a second that he'll succeed in changing inflation tbh

What's got you afraid of him?

He said that childless people are sociopaths. He wants to prevent women from travelling to get an abortion (which in practice means women would have to prove they are not pregnant to travel). And he's absolutely only doing this to kick off his own campaign.

If you are a woman, he is terrifying.

Out of interest did you vote for Clinton? I recall the dress stain and the 'I did not' speech. Sexual assaults on a subordinate who to this day can't obtain employment seems quite criminal to me.

They were inappropriate extra-marital consensual sexual encounters. There has never been any suggestion that Clinton's behaviour was criminal.

Unfortunately Trump will win but I doubt it will be finalised tomorrow unless he is an unexpected landslide, which seems unlikely.
