... won't be so exciting - Kamala will scrape through and Trump will moan and then back down?

Can't see a thread on this, but if there is, please do tell me x

The markets current have Trump as 65% probability of winning.

That’ll soon change one way or another once the first exit poll is announced.

Any idea of when the exit polls are expected?

There was an interesting documentary about Trump on the BBC. It basically says he's popular with his voters because when he speaks, he doesn't sound like a "traditional" politician and they believe he is a successful business man and want him to run the USA as a business as they think it will make them richer.

All nonsense of course, I mean, he literally just got convicted of fraud relating to his businesses.

However, I do think he will win and it is terrifying!! His comments about solving the Ukraine war and gaza war in 24 hours is so incredibly stupid and dangerous and idiotic.

On the plus side, 4 more years of endless hours of entertainment as he attempts to hold conferences with the media.

Some are already reporting but it won’t be exciting until the polls start closing. ~7 hours from now

Wellingtonspie · 05/11/2024 18:22

Same way Boris won. People thought he sounded more like a normal person rather than a know it all with silver spoon.

Fararge a “normal geezer down the pub mate”

People like to vote for people they feel a closer to them even if much richer. The more down to earth they can seem the more liked they are.

Sorry correction… polls start closing at 6pm EST so 4 1/2 hours.

Well that would be amazing'

Highly unlikely though. There are people alive right now who won't be in a few days due to this election

I must admit, the years he was president were a truly entertaining time to be on twitter

Never a dull day - remember when he almost started ww3 🤭🤭

I agree, I think people just don't know about his failing businesses 😳, and think his crimes are around sexual assault more than anything else, which his supporters seem not to care about

If Harris wins I suspect it will remain 'too exciting' although in a kind of tedious, queasy way for weeks and weeks. GOP have been preparing for 4 years all the people they can have in official positions to agitate about the results and objections they can make about 'cheating'. I think if so Harris will still ultimately become President but not without some very wobbly times between.

It's just kind of a relief Trump has ensured that military chiefs hate his guts with his treasonous behaviour and sneering at veterans so in an 'attempt to power grab' situation it is unlikely they would take his side.

discoballdave · 05/11/2024 18:32

This is going to drag on longer than tomorrow.

Edited

I understand people's concerns about another set of riots, but I just don't see it happening, I think people are wise to the fact that trump won't help them and they'll go to jail

What, so you are saying that the majority of Americans are stupid, because they don’t agree with your views? Because if he wins, it’s down to a majority vote.

Down to a majority vote? Well, no, in fact it isn't.

In 2016, 62,984,828 people voted for Trump, and 65,853,514 people voted for Hillary Clinton.

Because of the electoral college system he was then declared President.

(As you can see from those figures, the majority of the 334,914,895 Americans don't vote, so that's another group of a couple of hundred million or so not taken into account.)

Yes, I think people cheer him when he says he would rather not pay overtime and when he cuts tax for business and the rich because they think 'When I'M the boss, I don't want to pay overtime! When I'M a multimillionaire I don't want to pay more tax!' as if they won't just find themselves losing overtime pay and being taxed a higher % of his income than a billionaire under someone like Trump. 🙄

I also think a lot of people have zero curiosity about the world, never look at the news and just, as you say, have this vague idea 'Trump is a successful businessman, he'll want others to be successful [spoiler: he doesn't] that should make him a good President'

Lwrenn · 05/11/2024 18:42

I assume they aren’t permitted to announce any exit polls until all states have finished voting so I think that’s 8pm on the west coast which is 4am UK time.

I hope Trump wins. Kamala has no policies just more of the same. Trump rambles and says daft stuff but has a brilliant team around him. Just for promising to end the war in the Ukraine alone I'd vote for him. Lots I don't like about him but that's true of every politician. Kamala looks the part but her campaign has been vacuous, negative and full of outright proven lies.

Trump will end the war by handing Ukraine to his buddy (or puppetmaster) Putin. Hardly a desirable outcome for the West

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/11/2024 18:43
