Cue the ‘it’s the owners, not the dogs’ brigade. It’s both, the dogs are bred to kill. Yes my fluffy poodle mixes can bite but their mouths are the size of a large grape!

Babycatsarenice · 05/11/2024 20:58

There's now a 7 year old girl in critical condition after an attack in Evesham. This isn't right

I am putting my dog first, and as she can't tell me she wants to be a vegan, I am not going to make that decision for her. Just like I would not enforce a vegan diet on a child. To do that, is unethical.

Then you are not vegan. You yourself may eat a plant-based diet, but you do not understand veganism. Veganism is the moral baseline - of COURSE we should raise our children vegan. It's not 'enforcing' it, any more than you are 'enforcing' that they don't eat cats. My children are lifelong vegans, and grateful that they have never eaten meat or dairy. It's not necessary to eat animal products - surely you know that?

Babycatsarenice · 05/11/2024 21:01

Sorry in stable condition but serious injuries after an attack yesterday. It's a daily occurrence

Ohmywordsomepeople · 05/11/2024 21:05

Another poor child victim.

I have said this before but I think the government should pay owners in exchange for these dogs to be culled. Most owners seem on the lower income scale and £10,000 for example would be a huge sum to them. I think a lot of supposedly loving owners could be persuaded for cold hard cash. It would be money well spent.

Good one! What an excellent use of all the money that’s about to be stolen, oh I mean taxed, from people’s pensions!

A more effective solution would probably be to put down the owners of such beasts!

Another one.

The deaths are still going but the attacks are countless

I will not stop speaking out against this abomination of a breed, and if you think that is abuse or bullying, fine. They are high-risk dogs, and the rest of us don't want to see them or be anywhere near them, so if demonising these dogs and their owners is what it takes to be rid of them sooner rather than later, I am here to do just that. Anyone who owns one is absolutely stupid.
There is no such thing as a careful bully-breed owner. You are either lucky or not. Tick tock, tick tock.

Completely agree. Surely this latest awful case is all the proof needed that there is no such thing as responsible, safe bully ownership. It was the poor child’s loving companion apparently! They love kids right up until the moment they maul them to death.

A forgotten group I feel sorry for as well are the emergency responders. Imagine being first on the scene in a case like this or Ian Price. It makes me boil with anger that anyone is put through that for absolutely no reason.

CommonAsMucklowe · 05/11/2024 21:25

Sorry I haven't read all the comments but didn't this "loving" dog live on a gypsy site? Not known for their love and good treatment of animals are they, surely they are bullshitting to try and stay out of trouble.

FourLittleDucklings · 05/11/2024 19:43

Exactly this! My 13 year old Dd went to a sleepover (with other friends I knew) when I picked her up the next morning I casually asked, how the sleepover was/what did you eat/do they have siblings or pets?

She said yes, I asked what breed just out of nosiness, she text her friend as she didn't know, reply was 'XL Bully' I was like WTAF - never again - dim parents!

& now that is the first question I ask my daughter going to new friends houses 'do they have a dog & what breed is it?'

Honestly made my blood run cold!

My childminder introduced a staffie without warning. My DD never went back. Those dogs are not crazy like XLB, but still have a death grip. Not a chance I’d have a dog around a bunch of unpredictable kids.

tealbead · 05/11/2024 21:33

They need to be culled. I’m a vegetarian, firmly against fox hunting and badger culls, who puts insects outside - I love all creatures. But I believe that these dogs should be culled.

They’ve killed far too many people. And I imagine there are many more injuries not being reported in the media. They shouldn’t be pets, or allowed out in public (especially as people are reporting they’re not all being muzzled).

There’s now an article stating that the dog had been with the family for four years, and they had the relevant documents etc. Before this attack I imagine they’d have stood up for their dog as other owners have on this post. All of the XL bully owners seem to believe that their dog is different.

That Instagram page is shocking. That dog does not look happy to me, it’s probably just tolerating it.

Their eyes look evil to me.

Simonlebonbon · 05/11/2024 21:34

I read about this earlier, so sad. But I'm more angry with the owners than I can express. Why the fuck are people getting these monster dogs who keep killing people, including adult men, around their precious children? Wtf.
I know people who own these bloody dogs and they're forever are banging on about how they're lovely and gentle. Going on about it being a xl bully holocaust if we have a cull. Just fuck off.
They're literally tearing people to death, wtf is wrong with people.
This girls family are said to be shocked the dog did this and I'm livid, how are you fucking shocked? There is so many dead children because of this breed and you're "shocked", would you have let Fred fucking west babysit and been shocked your poor girl was discovered under his patio?
I also read the dog was unmuzzled when out, that dog could have killed more than one child because of the owners selfishness and stupidity.
Do I feel devastated for a family that have lost their beautiful daughter? Of course.
But am I enraged they put her in the position? Yes.

@TheDogsBalls I have every sympathy with your point of view. We had 3 Staffordshire Bull terriers from rescue, none of them pedigree and various sizes. The last had a similar genetic background to your dog but was much smaller. We took in our dogs because they were older and unwanted and stood little chance of the home they deserved, they were all much loved with us for the remainder of their lives. We might well have taken an XL type before the ban as we would have no reason not to. There are varying views on the XL situation but what isn’t acceptable is the constant abuse directed to those who own them. From what I see on the rescue site that we used the few XLs they had as the ban approached went to very good homes indeed, with careful owners.
The dog in the current case where the 10 year old died seems to be one where the dog was kept on the required regime but could not have been lawfully acquired. I do wonder if the dog hadn’t been passed on due to problems in its previous home.
I remember well when Rottweilers were the demon dog, we were told they were genetically and psychologically deranged. Now they seem to be treated as the same as other dogs. Please stop this abuse of those who own them, most of the owners are perfectly normal dog loving people.

How many times does this need to be pointed out?

It DOES NOT matter how ‘careful’ the owners are or how ‘good’ their home is. The dog ain’t sitting there thinking “ah well, I do fancy attacking them but they’ve been so careful I probably won’t’

Cant you see the common theme running through these attacks? The variations on “it was such a shock, they were a loving family pet before this”

It appears to me that the main character trait of this breed, and breeds like it, is that they are liable to snap and attack with NO warning.

No growl, no warning nip, nothing. Just sat one minute, perhaps lying on your lap minding their own business and the next, they’re intent to kill. And the sheer fact that they are virtually impossible to stop once they start, makes them a fucking terrible choice for a family pet. It just is not necessary to put yourself, or more importantly, members of the public at risk by owning one of these things?! Get a German Shep, a Golden Retriever, a fucking shitzu but not one of these!

peanutbuttertoasty · 05/11/2024 21:35

It’s like keeping a fucking crocodile in your house.

It has to stop now.

@Astrabees Your comments are ridiculous. This dog is killing people. As for Staffies, I don’t much like them either and they should be on the ban list as well. If it’s not an XL bully in the media, it’s a staffy. I avoid these dogs like the plague.

Banned breeds exist for a reason - because they are dangerous!

What on earth is the appeal of these dogs?!?!

Errors · 05/11/2024 21:41

And another one happened while we were still discussing the other one! This beggars belief!

When are the gov/social services going to step in and protect the UK's children???

Exactly, and it’s the irresponsible owners / parents that are to blame!

Astrabees · 05/11/2024 21:49

@RichTea90 The Staffordshire Bull terrier is very good with people and children, easy to train, highly intelligent, a natural clown, healthy on the whole and in my experience very respectful. I’m sure there are many on MN who have had the pleasure of the Staffie smile and a face wash! The only dog we have owned as a family that bit us at all was a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen.

I've said this before

If they're too dangerous to be unmuzzled in public

Why the fuck are they allowed unmuzzled in the home

In general but

Especially

With children

I don't get it!!!!
