In the UK, there are on average 9000 dog-attack victims admitted to hospital every year. The breed is not usually recorded however given that XL Bullies are responsible for over 70% of all fatal dog attacks, I think it's fair to extrapolate that they are also responsible for a significant proportion of those 9000.

Yes and what about the ones that aren’t reported or are yet to happen! I’m actually flabbergasted that we’ve allowed a situation where we have 55k XLs in the country and that’s just the registered ones. Not to mention all the similar breeds which are also dangerous and will be bred further to create some other monsters.

"Looking at you like this." Like it wants to kill and eat you, you mean.

Absolutely!

To anyone who thinks they're cutesie fuzzballs, a choice for you.

Go into a locked compound with 50 cavalier King Charles spaniels and run around growling at them and waving your arms around.

Or

The same compound with 50 xl bullies and demonstrate the same behavior.

Aw, g'wan, you know you want to 😘

there is no hysteria

its absolutely shocking and horrifying to read that a child or an adult has been attacked and mauled to death by a dog regardless the breed

but the breeds that are being reported on again and again for these absolutely shocking and horrifying attacks that end in death are just a few breeds and the xl bullies is one of these breeds

What the poster you quoted needs to realise is there is a risk vs reward thing here. There is absolutely no need to keep one of these dogs! Get a different breed, simple!

Waiting for someone to pop in with "it's not the dog, it's the owner". The most horrible owner won't make a killer out of a chihuahua

A chihuahua might have a bloody good go, though.

People just think their psychotic behaviour is cute because they're so tiny.

I’ve just taken my cats to a routine vet appointment, small waiting room and quite busy. I knew there was an XL bully in one of the rooms as the receptionist had been talking about it - ‘soft as mush’, beautiful, quiet power etc. This dog came out muzzled, tail wagging, dragging her owner behind. She first jumped on a lady beside me who gently moved her down as her small dog was frightened. Then she jumped up on me, I don’t really like being jumped on but I wasn’t worried so just gently pushed her down. She stuck her nose against my cats’ basket and one of them hissed and spat at her (they live with dogs but ours are very respectful of their space). The atmosphere changed immediately, the dogs demeanour changed and she seemed intent on getting the cats. The owner pulled her back somewhat ineffectively as she was back growling against the basket in seconds. I moved the basket to the other side of me and asked the owner to keep hold of the dog. He was laughing, ‘she loves cats, she lives with them’. The vet opened the door and called us in so I grabbed the cats and got them into the other room as quickly as I could.

I love dogs, I’ve visited crufts many times just to be around dogs and I have never been scared of them. Today I was scared. The dog was muzzled, it was on two leads and a harness being held by a ridiculously relaxed owner but I know there isn’t a thing I could do to save my cats if it wasn’t muzzled. I don’t understand why people have these dogs and I have reiterated to my children that if they ever visit someone’s home who has one of these then they need to make an excuse and leave immediately. They are not safe.

Deeperthantheocean · 05/11/2024 19:34

It's so tragic and this situation has happened so many times over the years. The thing is a big, heavy breed of dog is going to be able to overpower a human, especially a child. Most dogs do not attack but there is always a risk, also some types are more likely to.

RichTea90 · 05/11/2024 19:39

Hate them, and they all need to go. I’m terrified of em.

Who could possibly find these cute, loving pets?! It’s beyond me!!!!

IVFmumoftwo · 05/11/2024 19:40

Someone on FB described the ones who killed Ian Price as like lions on a zebra. Descriptions of that attack are enough for me. Poor man.

Also how do you know what people have in their house in regard to play dates? Teenagers will be going to mates houses without parental supervision. They just aren’t worldly wise enough to think that’s an XL bully and I need to head off home. They are going to he playing with it alongside their friends. These dogs need to just be legislated out of the country.

Exactly this! My 13 year old Dd went to a sleepover (with other friends I knew) when I picked her up the next morning I casually asked, how the sleepover was/what did you eat/do they have siblings or pets?

She said yes, I asked what breed just out of nosiness, she text her friend as she didn't know, reply was 'XL Bully' I was like WTAF - never again - dim parents!

& now that is the first question I ask my daughter going to new friends houses 'do they have a dog & what breed is it?'

Honestly made my blood run cold!

I've just been on a train with a (muzzled) XL bully. I'm really terrified of them. Waiting on the platform for the train to come in it was barking and straining on its leash - the owner, a man in his 20s I'd guess - was really struggling to control it. Imagine if it wasn't muzzled. My preference is for them to all be culled.

MotherofPearl · 05/11/2024 19:50

It stared at me from the vestibule area through the door the entire journey. You can zoom in to see its face. Awful, frightening creatures.

Chilling!!

Oh my god. That is unbelievable.

Agree I think it's partly both.
I imagine other breeds of dogs could be dangerous or aggressive if mistreated, neglected (by this I mean not given adequate exercise, stimulation, suitable environment etc rather than starving) abused by their owners, or even trained to be defensive/aggressive. However depending on size they might be easier to apprehend or overpower.

And some dogs of a certain temperament are likely to be calmer, and more obedient and compliant if treated well, given appropriate exercise, in the right environment and trained to be socialised.

But as pp hae said you can't out-train certain behaviours that are in-built into the breed. and the sheer size, jaw strength and muscle of them means that however conscientious someone was with training or exercising them, if they do attack they are extremely unlikely to be able to control or stop them.

Well of course a certain sort of people will choose an XL bully over say a sausage dog, therefore these dogs should be made extinct

I love dogs but these things need to be culled. They’re too unpredictable. That poor girl whose parents made a stupid mistake against all advice to the contrary by keeping this animal.
My biggest worry is I will see one of these things out and about unmuzzled

I have seen one unmuzzled near my old house. It ran up to me, my wife, our dog and I had our baby in a carrier. It ran across from what I assume was its home. No lead, no muzzle. We had to pick up our dog and both curl up and push up into a school fence as it ran up to us and jumped up before the owner realised it was loose and ran after it. It was terrifying. Reported to the Police who didn’t do much. I didn’t go out much again until we moved house to a nicer area. I love dogs too but these aren’t normal dogs

Lol, I have one, and I make sure it doesn't happen, nothing cute about it trying to be a rottweiler

Babycatsarenice · 05/11/2024 20:00

These are hell hounds bred to scare people and make their scum owners feel brave.
Shame on the rspca for opposing the ban too. I will never support them again.

There was one in the vets recently with a muzzle on – but my partner noticed at one point it managed to pull it off. :/

Even with the muzzle on I hated being round it and quickly moved to an adjoining room near a door.

If I see one I always quickly try and identify a safe escape route.

I'd have been at the other end of the train - if there were any more coaches in that direction, that is. As for going through that door with that thing on the other side, forget it.

I won't catch the eye of one of these maniacs as they can interpret that as threatening. That door is far too insubstantial a partition for my liking.

I was on the beach when one of these things came by, turned its head and growled at me. One of those ferocious growls with fangs dripping saliva. I practically needed clean underwear.

They put the fear of God into me.

MotherofPearl · 05/11/2024 20:32

Me too @SerafinasGoose. They are so intimidating and should not be allowed on public transport where you're in an enclosed space with them. I exited the train from the door on the opposite end of the carriage, that's for sure.

Champers66 · 05/11/2024 20:41

Agree. So relieved to see so many people on here in agreement because it absolutely boils my piss when people say that these types of dogs are the way they are because of the owners not treating/training them correctly. They are monster animals and have this nature no matter how they are raised. Destroy all XL bullys

powotsits · 04/11/2024 15:52

There is an idiot near us who walks one off lead without a muzzle round the little residential streets near us – always full of children out playing

Oh we’ve got a few. I can hardly believe I’m living like this really. Do you remember when the panic about paedophiles was at its height and people talked about them being on every corner. I don’t worry about them, but these monsters who are actually, definitely on my local streets.

My eldest are too old to be walked to school, or anywhere really, and it’s weird that I worry about them much more than ever before, entirely because of these dogs.

bombastix · 05/11/2024 20:46

It’s the owner that chooses the dog. Not one thing or the other. There seem to be two categories- men or teenage boys who like intimidating people with them, and middle aged women who like rescuing these dogs and say what softies they are.

Both the owner and the dog are dangerous. The owner doesn’t see the need to make a safer choice and the dog is latently vicious. All you need a for a tragedy to happen.
