I’ll start.

That having a one syllable first name and surname is an absolute no no.

Well I came on here to say I learned that opening the door to callers is just asking to be killed, but leaving your doors unlocked whilst you are in the house is de rigeur and it's totally crazy to lock them. But looks like I may have been beaten to it.

That it's perfectly fine to not answer a text for weeks because everyone is SOOOOO busy, but that replying with a quick 'thumbs up' emoji as acknowledgement and assent is both rude and passive aggressive.

That the Cost of Living has everyone impoverished, even those on hundreds of thousands of pounds. But not so much that they would turn their heating below 23 degrees or stop washing their clothes twice after each wear, plus bedding every day, and towels if they so much as get a bit damp from hands being wiped on them. And that I am definitely a minger because things only get washed when they fail a sniff test. It's like deodorant and showers never happened.

That it's very important to hate children and all things they love - Halloween, Christmas, fireworks, bonfires, Easter eggs, social media etc etc.

That gentle parenting is permissive parenting. This one really pisses me off, as gentle parenting is NOT permissive, and I wish I had parented even more gently than I did. It was my natural parenting style, but I used the naughty step, because I was unaware of gentle parenting in the 00s. But oh no, any example of permissive parenting gets slagged as being 'gentle'.

That if you want to scam loads of people, MN is full of people who would 'rather give to a scammer than have a needy person go without'

But also that people have big hearts and will give really good advice and emotional support when someone is genuinely in need.

That so many people hate summer, not that we have had much summer weather over the last two years.

A lot of people seem to be under the impression that there are only 2 types of summer weather 15°-18° miserable/dull/rainy/windy or any combo of the above or 35° + and in danger of heatwaves and forest fires so we should all be very thankful for the first type! 😃

That microwave rice is some spawn of the devil.

Colin the caterpillar isn't for girls.

Beaker and penis can be used in the same sentence.

Oh my god, don't even think about giving a Colin the Caterpillar cake to a girl! She'll instantly be demanding to be called Kevin and start tattooing her skin with a compass and black ink.

DoraSpenlow · 02/11/2024 17:48

I honestly didn't know that I needed an appointment to ring my nearest and dearest.

Neveragain35 · 02/11/2024 17:53

That posh people don’t say pardon, or use serviettes.

JWhipple · 02/11/2024 18:00

That around 80% of the entire population have been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. The other 20% are experts in identifying them.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/11/2024 18:02

What a fuss people make over seemingly innocuous events.
How some people seem to be permanently offended and seem to go through life looking for offence rather than trying to get in with people, or ignoring them.

🙋 you've learnt so much from MN.

I think you should stay here and further your education.

Vitriolinsanity · 02/11/2024 18:03

That parents to be can spend so much time choosing names, middle names and nicknames. I honestly gave no more than 20 minutes thought to my child's name.

That so many people batch cook. I wind up on this advice with a freezer full of "brown" (also fresh brown if I slow cook).

The angst about Christmas. I love Christmas, but have never, ever been able to see why it's such a knicker-twister.

I ponder, is there a correlation between non Christmas angst and owning and using a loo brush 🤔

That I'm the world's worst mum because I got my daughters ears pierced at Claire and I should have my kids removed by ss because I teach them to pronounce H as aitch

Aitch is correct though.
I do answer the door but, by the time I've got there, they've usually fucked off with my voice ringing down the street "I'm not fucking Usain Bolt"

MartinCrieffsLemon · 02/11/2024 18:04

You can only open the door if someone rings first but you should also never answer your phone had always perplexed me

MartinCrieffsLemon · 02/11/2024 18:06

It's terrible that people aren't looking out for each other any more but your neighbour asking for the slightest favour is the height of CFery. Of course you can't take in a parcel (or you might be helping their drug smuggling business) or offer them to use your bin (because you'll ring the council on them for stealing the bin space)

Yep. Snowflakes everywhere.

Tittat50 · 02/11/2024 18:14

Come to think on it, I've learnt a great deal from the Feminism board and have really enjoyed the debates, having thoughts and views challenged ( in a positive and non hostile way), particularly when I fell down the Jordan Peterson subliminal messaging vortex.

I absolutely love the wit and humour of many posters who have made me laugh endlessly on certain lighthearted threads, before they were cancelled, that is.

I love seeing how caring and supportive so many pp can be when posters are really in despair. In conclusion, there are some great people out there to offset the washer brigade.

I absolutely think that some people hate to see others having fun and will go out of their way to put a stop to it. And I hate those bastards.

That other people don’t answer the phone or door, and that toilet brushes are frowned upon. How do they get rid of skids?!

My suspicion that many people hate nurses (or just think we are ‘failed doctors’) was confirmed, though Grin

Oh no! Not me. I didn't like reading that.. I've been treated so so kindly and compassionately by nurses in the last year at some real dark moments. a couple of nurses have made me feel so safe when I was terrified I couldn't value them (your profession) more!

I've learnt I'm not alone during some very sad/scary/lonely moments. And I keep getting to remember that my fella really is a good one though repeated readings of terrible actions by men. Not that I haven't met a lot of terrible acting men.

Washers

JaneJeffer · 02/11/2024 18:21

Oh yeah washers @Tittat50 😂

Barney16 · 02/11/2024 18:22

That people cook snacks.
I thought a snack was a twix or a packet of crisis before MN

HalloweenYey · 02/11/2024 18:24

Just this evening I have learnt the following:

  • That there are people who take offence if you say to a friend 'congratulations on the birth of your baby' because they were not congratulated for choosing not to have a baby.

  • That some people think having a pooh is the same as giving birth

  • That some people have perfect children who have never ever forgotten a please or thank you.

Davros · 02/11/2024 18:25

I'll have a packet of plain crisis.

sarahsandie · 02/11/2024 18:26

How much some people earn.

So my manager is on 60/70k she is VERY stressed, high workload, huge responsibility. Yet people on here are on 120k with 3 young kids. It baffles me.

Barney16 · 02/11/2024 18:35

Oh, oh, I forgot, people a) hate their cleaners and try to catch them out or b) are frightened of their cleaners and pay them when the cleaner has cleaned nothing, has put her fags out in the pot plants and stolen all the food from the fridge.

Barney16 · 02/11/2024 18:36

I liked that typo so much I decided to keep it.

wendywoopywoo222 · 02/11/2024 18:39

That so many people can't make a decision on what to call their children without asking opinions from others.
