I’ll start.

That having a one syllable first name and surname is an absolute no no.

OP posts:

I honestly thought it was a common phrase 😬🤣

What? I’m supposed to wash it?

JaneJeffer · 03/11/2024 00:32

All the bridezillas are now checking the family tree to see if there's any long lost Irish relatives they can invite to the wedding

No, don't be silly. Batiste dry spray every third day does the job.

nomorehocuspocus · 03/11/2024 00:50

I never knew there were so many people who would be capable of starting an argument in an empty room.

Nah, we’ll be guided by local etiquette. Wouldn’t want to embarrass an overseas bride and groom by embarrassingly elaborate over-gifting. 😀

One of the revelations of living in England for me was that it’s perfectly possible to have a wedding with less than 200 guests, and to have a reception in a pub or a village hall.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/11/2024 01:05

How obsessed people are by class.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 03/11/2024 01:13

That you aren't invited to a wedding because you're a friend or family but are expected to pay for your seat by giving the 100s

But at the same time, the couple are crass and vulgar to ask for money despite them living together for 3 years and being quite OK for toasters thank you

The true meaning of the word staycation 😂 and the fact that if someone posts about a U.K. holiday but have used the word staycation the entire thread will be derailed by every other poster telling the OP she’s using the wrong word.

I saw that thread😂so I checked the Oxford English Dictionary and there are two correct meanings of staycation. Holiday in one’s home and holiday in one’s home country. Definition

So I learned that you can’t believe the mumsnet mob.

There you go, a bun fight in an empty room. Because I don't want to traipse up and down the stairs opening the door to chuggers, I'd step over someone shouting for help on the street.

God forbid anyone should traipse up and down stairs. Confused

There are people who think other people spend their lives worrying/judging/spending ages about them but never admit to doing it themselves, unless it is the neighbours

And how easy people make up conspiracies about others

Also that any bad behaviour must be down to ND, and not the fact that some kids and adults are just arseholes!

100%! 👏

How many people refuse to name a most likely benign/boring/popular hobby in case it’s too outing. I’m certain in most cases it’s not.

Ladyof2024 · 03/11/2024 06:04

I did not realise that so many women are being abused in their relationships with men. I don't mean hit but left to do all the housework as well as holding down a full-time job, taking 100% of the responsibility for the children as well as running the house and holding down a full-time job well for example the man will only work and when he comes home expects to do nothing but put his feet out. And then spends all day Saturday playing golf.

That so many people are thick enough to let jk Rowling tell them how to think

I'm on here frequently and I've never once seen an example of this.

Ladyof2024 · 03/11/2024 06:12

Another thing I learned on here is that an awful lot of people seem to think that a lodger has the right to stay in a property, such as a tenant has.

tilypu · 03/11/2024 06:33

That some people passionately hate the word 'gotten' being used, proclaiming it to be an Americanism - when it's use never died out in some areas of the UK and so it's as British a word as 'colour'.

That not having a toilet brush is a thing and any bathroom that does have a toilet brush is a germ-ridden cesspit.

  • How many people earn good money or are married to a 'high earner' and have quite a nice life as a result
  • The number of men who treat their partners badly. Not abuse as such but just generally expect their partner to do everything at home & get annoyed if they're not in the mood for romance.
  • People get overly offended by minor things
  • Lots of people get annoyed with teachers for a myriad of reasons & have no understanding of how hard it is to be an amazing teacher 100% of the time

That some people stand up to wipe their bum.

That some people think it's disgusting not to wash towels after every use.

That some people think the Police 101 line is somewhere to 'log' everyday concerns.

I've just found out today that there are actual adults who will not only not answer their door but would also happily step over someone shouting for help, god help any child who may have a person like this as a role model, imagine thinking acting like that is normal adult behaviour
