To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

They already look dated and hideous.

ToriMJ · 01/11/2024 21:11

I can't understand it.
Just watching MAFS and the teeth and lips, it's almost all of them and they look dreadful.

They already look shite, and I think the trend will pass quickly. Last year fake lashes were all the rage, this year they already look dated. My hairdresser who is also trained in beauty said that unless you just get a tiny bit of lip filler, you either have to stick with it forever or lips just look terrible whenever you stop.

Dinosweetpea · 01/11/2024 21:12

God I hope so!

pawpatrollerr · 01/11/2024 21:12

They look like bad dentures, it's so bizarre, and all the reality shows pick people with that specific look. It's become a fashion look rather than someone that really needs it and is self conscious about their teeth.

mossylog · 01/11/2024 21:12

It'll definitely go out of fashion. Fashions cycle much quicker nowadays in part because it's easier for poorer people to access each new craze. You see this already with lip filler: now it's more low class and accessible, many celebrities are having their filler reduced.

Oh no, I wonder if they get like 'deflated' look if they've been big then dissolved. Some of the lips are massive

Most filler dissolves in 18 months to 2 years so if they stop having it they will go back to their old selves. That applies wherever they have the filler. The teeth I think are for good. I've seen pictures of the process and they grind the natural teeth down to put the veneers on so there'd be no going back from that. They'll just have to have crooked, chipped and off white veneers instead if the natural tooth look comes in. I'll be right there for that, ahead of the curve!

vegaspot · 01/11/2024 21:16

I have three females ,early 20s on my shift occasionally and I genuinely don’t know who is who , They all look the same 🤦‍♀️

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 01/11/2024 21:17

Who knows what people will think in years to come, but they look appalling so I hope it's a fashion that will go away. I doubt their faces will go back to normal and I suspect those who've had cheap dentistry in turkey will regret it in later years.
I love seeing old films and TV programmes where people( women) have got their natural faces and teeth, they're capable of so much more expression and to me that's so important for actors.
I think the fashion for fillers etc is a particularly British and American thing, you certainly don't see so many wrong looking filler faces on Scandinavian or french TV programmes.
I have noticed that those drawn on huge black eyebrows seem to be on the way out so hopefully fillers etc will go that way too.

No they don't. My neice had lip filler for years. She can't afford it now and her lips are back to normal. There isn't any 'deflation'.

Edingril · 01/11/2024 21:18

And the same hair look and fake tan

Marine30 · 01/11/2024 21:21

YANBU
Have talked about this with DD14 lately (partly as a way to put her off future lip injections if possible).
They just leave people with a permanently gormless look and the side profile is very Daffy Duck. Bad veneers give a Ned the Horse look in a similar vein.
And you’re right - what is deemed attractive definitely has a sea change every 20 years or so. My friend who at school got ribbed a lot for her ‘rubber lips’ is now delighted big lips and curves are more popular.
Go back to the 80s and it was all small delicate mouths and big hair. At least big hair can be tamped down - good luck changing enormous lips or gnashers.
Although I guess at least lip injections can just be stopped and they revert back to normal size (I’m guessing).

Falseshamrok · 01/11/2024 21:22

I’ve got nhs veneers and I asked my dentist to make them ‘as real to normal teeth as possible’ but still, they look fake (but very very good, not bright white or in your face)

I hate the filler look. But apparently it lasts and won’t sag??? Only just going on an article I read.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 01/11/2024 21:22

They look bad now so they'll certainly look dated.

Good point - I remember those harsh black eyebrows that looked like black marker ticks. Luckily they do seem to have gone away in the main.

SleepToad · 01/11/2024 21:24

I fear for these people who follow such a trend...remember when stretching your ear lob was popular! What makes younger women in particular think that hugely inflated lips and backsides look attractive.

I know it comes from black women saying having larger lips/butt is also attractive...and on a black woman it does. But that is a natural occurrence and looks in proportion and correct.

ToriMJ · 01/11/2024 21:24

Yes the huge Russian volume lashes seem to be fading away. And the massive brows.

They already look awful! So many of the girls on MAFS all look so fake and similar.

There was a photo online the other day of the Spice Girls and it was refreshing to see how natural they all looked! So much prettier than today's obsession with fake.

This. Some people look great. So many look really, really bad.

I'm very prepared to be criticised for this post but I saw the photo today of Samantha Jayne Ramsay: the young woman who accused Al Fayad of sexual assault in 1990s. It really moved me. Apart from the anger on her behalf and the sorrow about how what he did to her affected her life I was just so struck by how natural she looked. Not only beautiful but a total individual with no duck pout lips. No artificially whitened teeth. No makeup that made her look like a plastic doll.
I think it's so sad how women these days are pressurised into making themselves all look the same. To look artificial. As though they have come off a production line.

Jessie1259 · 01/11/2024 21:29

One of the blokes on Big Brother has had his teeth done and I've never seen such fake looking teeth - even on MAFS!

No one is pressuring anyone people choose to do, yes soap stars, bloggers, magazines, influencers may all do it but people can make the choice

I am sick of everyone blaming society and 'pressure' when people can't think for themselves

And how many parents do if it themselves that teenagers learn off them?
