To think in ten years all these huge veneers and huge lips will be seriously dated?

Eek, watching tv these days it's a sea of huge symmetrical bright white veneers.
So many of them look like they have got a teeth guard in when they are sucking on them.
Most of them just look really terrible and I dread to think what their long term teeth issues will be.
Add in the huge lips and filler faces and really it's a bit black mirror with all these faces looking the same. I know the lip filler can be dissolved but is that the same for all over the face? Will people be able to go back to how they were before once the filler blindness passes?
I've been watching old movies and the difference with natural teeth is quite something, it changes the natural shape of your face and everyone looks more individual .
Aibu or will it all look so dated in ten years and all these huge horsey veneers go out of fashion?
Or am I just getting old Grin

There is already a trend of lip dissolving happening

catin8oots · 01/11/2024 21:31

I was watching one of those 'best of the 80s tv' rubbish programmes on channel 5 the other night and it was wild

I'm not a fan of the teeth/lip current trend but I didn't realise quite how bad it was until I saw all the women on this show and they were normal! And so beautiful!

Slim. Freckles. Lovely human teeth. I'm only 44 and I felt like crying watching it.

They already look shite, and I think the trend will pass quickly. Last year fake lashes were all the rage, this year they already look dated. My hairdresser who is also trained in beauty said that unless you just get a tiny bit of lip filler, you either have to stick with it forever or lips just look terrible whenever you stop.

I've wondered about this. Because surely the skin stretches? So if you don't keep topping it up, would you get saggy lips? Confused

Big teeth, lips and bottoms. They look like baboons.

Gummybear23 · 01/11/2024 21:34

Fillers don't dissolve they migrate around the body potentially blocking lymphatic system.

Most filler dissolves in 18 months to 2 years so if they stop having it they will go back to their old selves. That applies wherever they have the filler. The teeth I think are for good. I've seen pictures of the process and they grind the natural teeth down to put the veneers on so there'd be no going back from that. They'll just have to have crooked, chipped and off white veneers instead if the natural tooth look comes in. I'll be right there for that, ahead of the curve!

It doesn’t.

There’s now a huge body of evidence to show that it does not dissolve and can be found in the tissues decades later. It’s really a forever thing.

Although it does migrate and lose structure

YouAreOne · 01/11/2024 21:35

They look hideous now.

rylan ?

He had his redone to look more natural.

LynetteScavo · 01/11/2024 21:36

There's a white teeth, big lips, boobs and bum, fake tan and tattoos look that already looks dated, but is going to look really funny in several years time.

It's not even like a fashion like a perm and white stilettos that can easily be changed, so they're going to age a person.

I agree. They look terrible now and are not going to age well (in any sense).

MaiAamWaliHun · 01/11/2024 21:37

I would imagine so-- fashion in 2014 probably seems out of date now too.

Blaggoshpereish · 01/11/2024 21:38

Demi Moore in Ghost.
so natural vs now. Not one actress now natural lips/face.

Yup. Following a childhood incident and then a fall when I was older, I needed one implant for a front tooth and veneers for top teeth which had been held together by composite and were discoloured by childhood antibiotics.

One of my veneers is only composite because the only way of attaching porcelain would have been to file down too much of the tooth and the dentist quite rightly refused to compromise a healthy but discoloured tooth.

NB My veneers are not dazzling white.

I was watching the Top of the Pops shows tonight from the 70s - 90s singers like Martika, Cathy Dennis, Debbie Harry etc and was struck by how individual all the women looked. Pretty, natural, lots with shorter hair and their own sense of style. The aesthetic today seems to be blow up sex doll!

viques · 01/11/2024 21:39

At least big dark eyebrows seem to be sinking into the Sea of Soooo Last Year Darling.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/11/2024 21:41

They've had perfectly healthy teeth shaved down to stumps so that will never ever be the same again. They'll just have to keep having more veneers stuck on there. I don't think some of these people can even floss. They look like boxers gum shields! 🤢

Shoppedatwoolworths · 01/11/2024 21:42

I always think this when watching old tv shows and movies. Julia Roberts in her older films was stunning, slightly yellowed and crooked teeth, which ironically added to her beauty. Now her teeth look like she’s wearing a mouth guard.
….The friends cast with their very slightly imperfect perfect teeth.

I found some old magazines from the 90’s, all celebs inside (spice girls, backstreet boys, boyzone etc etc) all looked SO natural. They all looked human!

Howdidtheydothat · 01/11/2024 21:43

My DS (13) cracks up when he sees Botox lips. He thinks that from side-on, they look like ducks beaks 🤣🤣 . However, he has commented that his teeth are yellow (they are not) as he thinks UV white is the colour that they should be.

TheBunyip · 01/11/2024 21:43

I just can’t fathom that clearly pretend teeth have become not only acceptable but desired. It’s peculiar. Just a few years ago we’d be rolling around pointing and laughing, thinking of poor Lesley Ash here. Remember how we were horrified / appalled / intrigued by Michael Jackson and now look what these people are doing to their faces??!!!

Game0fCrones · 01/11/2024 21:43

I was watching an 80s episode of Top of the Pops the other day and Kim Wilde looked stunning, slim and so natural and the audience all looked lovely too (thin, pretty, normal teeth and eyebrows).

ACynicalDad · 01/11/2024 21:44

An American friend of mine has done the teeth and looks awful.

JudgeJ · 01/11/2024 21:44

Did many of them ever not look hideous?

u3ername · 01/11/2024 21:45

I think it's so sad how women these days are pressurised into making themselves all look the same.

I don't think it's pressure in the same way as it was decades ago for women to maintain a certain look. I think women back then were judged a lot for not attracting a man to settle down with etc.
Women are meant to be in their golden era - when they have much more freedoms than before, real independence.

It's crazy why so many are going for this look, risking long term damage of some degree.
If you ask them - they'll say it's not for anybody but themselves, so some misunderstood perception of self-care?
