Women being nasty/body shaming other women

Ive just seen an article in the Daily Mail with a headline intending to body shame.
It really angers me.
I know everyone says what do you expect from journalists especially something like the Daily Mail.
But seriously in this day and age with so much focus on being kind and issues surrounding peoples mental health you would think this horrible attitude would stop.

The article is about Lauren from Only way is Essex and is clearly written in a way for people to mock her. Its so nasty especially as Lauren has spoken up only recently about how low she feels.

The fact that its another woman doing this for some reason makes me feel even angrier.

Ive posted the article on here just to show how awful journalists are and hope that Journalists like this will eventually be called out and cancelled.

The article doesn't mention her body, it's you who seeks to have judged the photos? The article is very bland.

Novemberisfinallyhere · 01/11/2024 14:43

I've read the article and don't see anything negative relating to her appearance?

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/11/2024 14:44

Maybe show an actual example of body shaming in the article?

The pictures aren't exactly flattering but then pap shots rarely are. They aren't sub titled "Lauren's massive arse as seen leaving the theatre."

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 14:45

I should have added this bit where she mentions her looks. It's all done in a passive aggressive way.

What is the headline which intends to body shame?

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 14:46

Sorry just added the bit where it says 'looking good Lauren'. All very passive aggressive.

That's not the article. That's the SM team for a start

And I wouldn't read that as pass-agg but as supportive

You reading it a different way suggests you're the problem as you're looking at those photos and thinking they should be judged...

‘Looking good’? I’d be surprised if the journalist captioned the social media posts? Surely that’s the socials team.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/11/2024 14:48

You're basically encouraging a hate campaign against this journalist for something the social media team has done (and which you are misinterpreting)

username7891 · 01/11/2024 14:49

You should have seen women's magazines back in the day. I remember one where Victoria Beckham's cellulite was circled and had close ups.

The Daily Heil have been shaming women for decades OP. It's the modern equivalent of putting women in the stocks and the people in the comments throw rotten fruit.

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 14:50

@MartinCrieffsLemon you would read that as supportive?
Oh okay i must be wrong. Its just in the past she has has been so body shamed by the media.

Ive got it wrong. I apologise obviously it was meant with good intent.

I'm missing it too. Avoid the Daily Fail in future maybe.

"Looking good ❤️" is something someone would put to support someone else. Replies probably echo it from people wanting to support her

Other comments are probably problematic but they'd appear under any article about her because trolls are vile

ATastingMenuButItsAllCrisps · 01/11/2024 14:53

(meant to have typed *seems to)

ohyesido · 01/11/2024 14:54

I get what you mean. The article invites people to make negative comments about the angle of the photograph. Without actually doing it themselves.

The same publication printed photos of Katie Price without make up and captioned it "she's absolutely gorgeous!" Now regardless of body shaming, that caption is obviously inviting readers to make scornful comments

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 14:54

The comments also felt that the article was being horrible. Maybe we've all read it wrong as we are so used to the media tearing womens looks apart.

So the words read "looking good Lauren"

And you've interpreted that as them having a dig?

Is that because you don't think it's possible for her to look good? You think they must mean the opposite of what they said?

Maybe get the picture of the journalist removed for a start...

I felt it was used so that people would comment negatively.
I obviously got it wrong and did t realise it was supposed to be a positive story.
My mistake.

I’ve reported it to at least remove her pic! Doubt she cares either way but I think it’s the fairest thing.

nam3c4ang3 · 01/11/2024 14:55

What on earth? You are the one who is reading into this as body shaming OP! You've put the journalist here for what exactly - so we can all confront her or something? How on earth is 'looking good' passive aggressive?! Why have you read it so - is it because you dont think she looks good ..... ?

Yep

Some people are so intent on "being supportive" they start reading into things that aren't there

Autumnlovelove · 01/11/2024 14:57

@MartinCrieffsLemon but it wasn't just me that felt that way. So maybe the article wasn't presented in the right way.

I think she does look good but showing a photo of a ladies bottom whilst walking her child to school suggests that the article wasnt being entirely sincere.
