Those who believe MN is more leftists, what makes you think so?

ItTook8WibesToKnow7WasEnough · 31/10/2024 16:08

Because to me MN has always come off much more right / conservative.

So, if you can point out what makes it so leftist.

I actually think the cats are the best thing about the thread

Not the scintillating political discourse?

Why not?

Did it hit a nerve, by any chance?

Nope. But it was a particularly mean spirited comment.

Full disclosure: I currently have no skin in the cat photo game as mine is recently deceased. But I do enjoy looking at photos of other people's cats. All cats are gorgeous and funny and I never met one I didn't like😽.

I think you are relishing proving the point that it ain't the left that's nasty.

As I said upthread my 'average' cat died two days ago. You can't even respond kindly. Oh well, at least I can deflect my anger.

I’m sorry about your cat and I’m
sure that fur you it was the best cat ever.

it doesn’t make that thread any more of a reasonable police debate.

it’s a cat obsessed echo chamber.

@Piggywaspushed @PandoraSox very sorry for your losses

IDK but criticising posters cats does seem intended to 'hit a nerve' - in addition to being massively childish

Do you also pop over to the Litter Tray and critique the cat photos there?

Can't believe I'm engaging with this sort of nonsense really

And Masterchef threads have cats. Horror.

Left leaning and intellectually elitist.
Far right, scum, bigots, fascists, racists, thick, knuckle draggers are all terms I hear all the time on here re white working class people that I don't hear anywhere else. Apart from perhaps the government.

What's wrong with 'intellectually elitist' (your term)? Presumably, by the common definition, that means people who know more? Correct me if i'm wrong!

EasternStandard · 01/11/2024 14:24

No issue with cats or with people posting on a thread if they share a political pov, happy to leave people to it rather than read / engage.

But the original claim that mn doesn’t have a strong pro Labour skew on many threads I think is incorrect

And in many cases there’s a posting tactic which isn’t good for balanced debate. Which is why mn has diverged from general commentary in many ways. A common tactic is ‘bot’ HQ or the sneery attacks

A few posters have said the same on why they don’t post, that’s a shame, I’d like to read other POV

Printedword · 01/11/2024 14:24

I think it’s generally quite right wing on MN. The threads in support of Starmer are a complete misnomer - this is the most right wing Labour government ever.

Are you JD Vance in disguise?

Yep. I'd agree with that. I only voted for this version of Labour to GTTO.

On another thread Starmer and Reeves were accused of being communist. That gave me a good laugh,

Really? More than Blair?

I don’t see it that way due to high tax and debt although no PFI I guess

I think Blair carried the central ground with higher support for much longer

Is that as well as being gay/bisexual and leading a double life with his second family?

I’d take intellectual elitism over knuckle dragging populism tbh, but then no one likes to be patronized and treated as if they’re stupid (even if they are). Doing so just entrenches anti intellectual sentiment.

I’m a centre-right capitalist and social liberal. I would say whether mumsnet leans left or right depends on the thread you’re on. It can lean very authoritarian at times though!

There are whole forums I won't post on, though, so that's not a single issue left/ right thing.

Ok but I still want those posters to post and for the site not to be so skewed to Labour not because of content but the way people deal with a different POV. Hopefully so, but I can see why they get put off. Who wants to be called a bot etc.

You've fallen for some false rhetoric that white working class are all conservative. In reality they fall on both sides.
Racist, xenophobic blah blah as well as benefit recipients, scroungers, expecting everything to be given to them by the taxpayer.

😶

It's the same with the middle class. Elite liberals as well as dyed in the wool conservative.
