Those who believe MN is more leftists, what makes you think so?

ItTook8WibesToKnow7WasEnough · 31/10/2024 16:08

Because to me MN has always come off much more right / conservative.

So, if you can point out what makes it so leftist.

I think people just tend to be in their own bubbles IRL and they see what surprises them on here.

I feel like it's very right wing - so many thread ore election scaremongering about Labour - but then most of my social circle is very left wing.

lifeturnsonadime · 31/10/2024 19:17

BarbaraHoward · 31/10/2024 19:04

But on the subject of trans people, as right wing as southern states of America.

Yeah I debated commenting on this in my post above. I think it's one of the reasons for the general swing to the right on here over the past few years.

Believing in the reality that sex is immutable and there are times that sex really really matters to protect the rights of women & girls and believing that children should be protected from harming their bodies makes one right wing does it?

Well I never.

ChequerToRed · 31/10/2024 19:23

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 31/10/2024 19:12

And I was going to mention how it's wild that if you believe in biological reality, that you can't change sex, and that sex trumps gender ideology in situations you must be aligned with the 'far right', as a few posters (like yourself) pop up with now and again. Laughable.

Is it just? Tbh, I find the alarmingly prevelent idea that in order to be ‘on the keft’ you have to agree 100% with a number preset ideas and dogmas one of the more unpleasant aspects of contemporary politics.

ParisGellerFTW · 31/10/2024 19:24

The leftists are louder, for sure. I bet a lot do what I do - roll eyes and scroll past the viciousness because there's no talking to them.

I've been mostly left-leaning all my life, and still am, in terms of views that were normal 10-15 years ago. But I loathe the group think, the shutting down of dissent, the flat out refusal to consider another point of view, the silencing, the sneering, the guilt by association, the purity spirals and the hateful identity politics. It's just a cesspit.

And so I think those on the right or in the centre are quietly rolling their eyes and saying little.

Same, all those things. I do post because I want to hear from other posters who are not like this and hopefully someone posting a different pov will enable more of that. Even though the backlash is immense at times. I don't like sites where differing views cannot be heard.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 31/10/2024 19:30

Because the Left shouts the loudest.
They love being appreciated. It’s mostly a performance.

HRTQueen · 31/10/2024 19:41

I think it’s more leaning to the left but as Labour are now in power those on the right have more to say and are loudly critical on the government.

and now as with all social media it’s impossible to have a political discussions as so many just what to tell you that you are wrong and prove that they are in one camp

it’s tiresome and feeds into divisive politics but then I think as many on the left as on the right enjoy this

Attelina · 31/10/2024 20:02

I hate Lefty's with a passion and sadly Mumsnet is full of them but I have noticed in recent times less of a Lefty stance.

I certainly don't vote Tory, Labour and Conservatives are too cheeks of the same arse with the Conservatives only slightly better than Labour.

How is being left anti Christian?

for that matter, where does it talk about terminating a pregnancy in the Bible?

Jesus said feed the poor, surely left leaning is more Christian?

Thou shalt not kill

Pro-abortion, anti-Christian, this is why

Pro-choice and Atheist.

Corrected it for you.

Thatmakesperfectsense · 31/10/2024 20:37

Because it mirrors society in general and women tend to be more left wing due to many women's employment being disproportionaly linked to the public sector, NHS, teaching, local government etc. which employs around five million women in the UK public sector, compared to 2.7 million men.

NoCarbsForMe · 31/10/2024 20:37

8 million threads whinging on about private school VAT say different....

So if you hate lefties with a passion 🙄 and don't vote Tory or Labour.

Who gets your vote?

Mere curiosity asks..

The fact you reworded it does not mean you corrected it, also your superiority stinks - this is a thread about opinion not correcting each other. Now refresh your breath

I just thought this meant you were in touch with material reality and not steeped in ideology.

She is wrong because she forget we have quite few other religions also, so she claims anti-christian equals atheist. Yes, tell me how many years their forced governmental agenda gave them on RE and they still cannot make one correct sentence on the topic, but even dare correct me LOL

ItTook8WibesToKnow7WasEnough · 31/10/2024 20:44

Ok, so a lot of accusations of lefties being loud and what-not.

But what are the actual talking points and views, what are rhe things that make them so leftist?

Both political and social.

Thou shalt not kill

”Do as I say, not as I do!” - god

The bible also says not to mix fabrics, and I’m not much inclined to pay attention to that either.

That said, the bible does contain a handy abortive recipe.

Just look at the long running threads in Chat - Starmer no x threads! They won’t hear a word against Labour, nor a word pro Conservatives.

You're completely wrong about that - those threads have a group of posters who are very diverse politically, and they include people who have voted all across the political spectrum in their lives.

Most of the people on there would love to see the return of a proper Conservative party of the John Major school of conservatism, instead of the shower of talentless ultra right wing nincompoops we currently have - we need a decent opposition and we don't have one.

Yes I think I posted a few times on no 4 or something. After that you just realise it's a barrage. There's enough of that on other threads.

Thou shalt not kill

That’s if you believe that life begins at conception. And if that’s the case then anti abortionists should hold equally strong views on ivf and surrogacy but it’s just abortions they shout about.

feed the poor and leave women to be responsible for their own bodies.

Nobody likes the idea of abortion but it’s been going on for thousands of years. It’s legalised to allow women access to safe abortions because without that there would be more deaths. Women will still access abortions but they’ll be unregulated and unsafe and women will die
