I think we just need to look at who has led and presided over the BBC recently, and how political those appointments were.

I quite like the way the BBC is run, as a consumer, but make a business of it and it will sell subscriptions around the world.

Free up the commercial people already running BBC World and selling programme rights and co productions, and the BBC is right up there with Netflix and Disney, but with a factual twist.

I don't disagree, but then I grew up in a country where adverts were always a part of any broadcast funding. I'm far from saying that Dutch TV is great because it really, really isn't, but the model isn't one I object to. I don't understand the way people are so ideologically wedded to the BBC.
