Those who believe MN is more leftists, what makes you think so?

ItTook8WibesToKnow7WasEnough · 31/10/2024 16:08

Because to me MN has always come off much more right / conservative.

So, if you can point out what makes it so leftist.

It’s interesting some people can’t see it still.

They can - it’s a way of deflecting the fact that posters wrote insulting comments which PandoraSox denied.
Can you link to said insults to individuals? Posters on that thread don't always agree with each other, yet don't insult each other”

PandoraSox · 03/11/2024 13:54

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 13:49

They are, but not quite as unpleasant as maliciously attributing them to the wrong poster.

I have corrected my mistake and apologised. I think most people reading this thread are clear that PandoraSox did not write all the comments.

You haven't corrected your mistake as the false posts are still there. Correcting your mistake would be getting them deleted.

They’re not ‘false posts’ - they are other comments taken from the Starmer thread. For the hundredth time I’ve made it quite clear they are not by you.

But it is so, so easy to report your own post and ask to have it withdrawn. Not doing that shows a lack of good faith.

Any thoughts on the quotes?

Any thoughts on the quotes?

Some of them are offensive. I am not however convinced that they are any worse than what regularly gets slung by right wing mumsnetters. Both sides have people who get heated and don't want to listen to opinions that are different, and that is sad. As you know, I adamantly disagree with you on just about everything, but you do present reasoned arguments in a civil manner. It would be good if everyone could do that. But when people lower themselves to sneering commentary about other people's cats, that does say a great deal about the kind of person they are, and that happens on both sides of the debate.

Efacsen · 03/11/2024 14:08

@PandoraSox I reported the offending post and MNHQ have deleted it

Tbh I find that list quite an eyeopener and contrary to claims earlier in the thread that it didn't happen. I won't go on thread like that and hide them, but I think for adults to not see the problem is an issue.

I would expect teens to do better. The need to delete it now also doesn't help.

I disagree. Taking responsibility for an inadvertent misrepresentation and correcting the error shows that you are a good faith poster.

EasternStandard · 03/11/2024 14:19

The error was corrected but maybe @Barbadossunset could repost with that correction so the thread makes sense

How is being left anti Christian?

for that matter, where does it talk about terminating a pregnancy in the Bible?

Jesus said feed the poor, surely left leaning is more Christian?

Because often people who espouse very left leaning views tend to make scornful and suspicious comments about Christians based on their own assumptions. Yes they may well align with Jesus in their concern for the poor but they don't see it that way. They also tend to conflate Christianity with whiteness, even though that isn't the case.

I think it's much more complex than that - it's why I think the whole left/right label should be binned. It just doesn't work any more.

I also think 'Christian' is a much more complex label than you might think - after all, there are very many denominations of Christianity, some very socially and fiscally conservative (think Prosperity Gospel), others socially and fiscally progressive. And most of them think they are the only 'true' Christianity and everyone else is wrong.

So I stay away from it all by being a left leaning atheist and operating on a live and let live ideology for the most part - but I do have very grave concerns when religion of any kind influences politics, because politics should serve a country and ALL its people, not just those who fall into the 'right' kind of believers' camp.

Thou shalt not kill

You are entitled to your opinion about abortion of course, but if you want to use the bible as back up you might want to read the whole thing.

Thou shalt not kill unless that person had gay sex, swore at their parents, violated the sabbath, committed adultery etc etc at which point if you love god you are required to kill them.

Also of course it's full of god killing men, women and children on a whim.

Remember the Great Flood and the Egyptian Firstborn (mostly children) killed by god in their beds.

CurlewKate · 03/11/2024 15:23

Can't we just ignore posts we consider to be insulting? Or report them and see if MNHQ agree? It's such a waste of time to do otherwise.

CurlewKate · 03/11/2024 15:28

@StarlitBeauty "

I think you are wrong about left leaning people in particular. And anyway, while scornful is wrong-suspicious is surely acceptable.

A pp asked for examples, so a list was provided.

EasternStandard · 03/11/2024 15:47

No mistakes in that last one, interesting people have reported it. Not so comfortable to see it after all

Well, if MNHQ considers it to be against their guidelines, it's going to be removed.

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 15:52

Why on earth was that list removed?
I was asked for a list of insults which I provided. PandoraSox complained and I apologised and corrected the post and made clear which were PandoraSox’s comments. This was removed so I then posted another list without PandoraSox’s comments which has also been removed?
Why?

Barbadossunset · 03/11/2024 15:55

Well, if MNHQ considers it to be against their guidelines, it's going to be removed.

Does MNHQ not allow past comments to be quoted? Oddly enough, PandoraSox’s comments which I reposted still stands.
10….9…..8…..7….6…..

I somehow think the original posts should have been reported, or is the Starmer thread immune?
