You miserable bunch of Halloween Grinches!

Kids are probably earlier than usual because it's half term. Get your sweets ready and don't be grumpy.

This is the great thing about living rurally 🙌 no one calls 😆 I’ll drive my dc to the next village and go to the estate there. Best of both worlds!

You are very entitled. Surely if you don’t give, you don’t partake.

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 16:41

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 16:38

You're one DC but EVERYONE else will have the same idea if they are also in the same position and the people on the street you're going to will only have prepared for their local kids.

No that’s really not how it works here…

No one calls, so who are they supposed to give to!

Ok I’ll cancel and tell my dc not to bother because we live too far out to give anything to anyone! 🙄

So when you visit the countryside your turning up to use their local areas of beauty without paying towards it right… just turning up to take what that community works hard to maintain looking nice and the little community feel that makes it so cutesy

I don't go to the countryside and knock on folks doors asking for stuff though.
As it is I actually live semi-rurally (in a bit with more houses but surrounded by fields, the sea, farms, rural houses).

Agreed.

Honeslty flabbergasted at some of these replies!

Nice to see the point flew clearly and easily over your head.

They could take stuff with them to hand out?

Why, you big meanie! 😂

That’s what I was thinking 😂😂

Heronwatcher · 31/10/2024 16:44

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 16:36

I wish I could send some your way. We are basically a destination street. People go all out and everyone in the area swarms in instead of just sticking with their immediate neighbours. The community spirit used to be nice, you could actually catch up with your neighbours but now it's like a gannet feeding frenzy

You do realise you can just take the stuff in? It’s not like tax? Just put a sign up saying “sweets run out” and take the pumpkins in.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:44

thisfilmisboring123 · 31/10/2024 16:40

And! It’s a few measly sweets.

If it's person after person it's not though. You think pp is the only grabby person who travels?

But that’s not the point is it.

Most of the fun is knocking on the door, not just some random handing you sweets

WooleyMunky · 31/10/2024 16:45

I hand out rice crackers and sustainably hunted tofu.
Along with a pamphlet detailing the evils of sugar, drugs, and the music of Ed Sheeran.

What was your point?

Wellingtonspie · 31/10/2024 16:46

sling a few haribo in the charity/food bank basket at the shopping tills. People who’s children would truly enjoy the candy can get it. You’ve shared much nicer and better than mertle. 😉

Threelittleduck · 31/10/2024 16:46

They don't usually start until about 5 around here. We ran out of sweets last year but none of us could be bothered to carve pumpkins this year so we probably won't any callers..

If you want to take you should be willing to find ways to give.

Some people can suck the fun out of anything, it must be tiring.

I'll tell you what's tiring, working from home and having to day up from your desk countless times at 3 in the afternoon because kids can’t be bothered to wait until 5!

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 16:48

SilverChampagne · 31/10/2024 16:17

Oh, stop it. It’s a few cheap sweets.

It's not though I have to buy at least 3 large multipacks of 80-100 sweets. I don't have that many kids on the road

BobbyBiscuits · 31/10/2024 16:48

I think it's because it's hallows eve, so meant to be dark. Else kids would start doing it at about 10am surely? But yeah, I had a couple early ones.
They were clearly on their way home from school but had masks. But hey, I'm happy to give sweets to any kid who knocks after I put my Halloween stuff out.

I wish my house came with a DO Not disturb option

ChewbaccasMrs · 31/10/2024 16:49

We've got a cauldron filled with sweets already but we usually don't get trick or treaters till 5.30 onwards,we very often end up with well over 100 and 5.30 feels early enough being as the last one's usually turn up just before 9pm.
