Lacky301 · 31/10/2024 11:35

Dp can never get a job directly with a employer his applications are always rejected or he doesn't hear back.
We are trying to avoid agencies as his last workplace had a hire and fire system dp got settled there after been there almost 2 years but company didnt have enough work so he had to finish.

Why did he come here?

He doesn't sound like a catch op. Are you funding him

Lacky301 · 31/10/2024 22:48

Normallynumb · 31/10/2024 22:46

If you/he are on a joint UC claim I believe he could do courses at reduced costs
I have read a previous post too,it seems nothing has changed so he needs to be more proactive.

No we are not on any benefits at all he was working for almost 2 years and we earned too much between us to qualify.

If hes on limited leave to remain, what type of visa is he actually on?

Kaleidoscope101 · 31/10/2024 23:03

If using jobsites such as indeed they use an applicant tracking system to scan cv's.

www.indeed.com/career-advice/resumes-cover-letters/ats-resume-keywords#:~:text=And%20then%20once%20your%20information,information%20matches%20the%20job%20description.

Basically, if the CV doesn't have they "key words" then it's not going to get through the initial computer sift.

murasaki · 31/10/2024 23:10

I think she claims he's her carer.

I think the point is op, you know why he's not getting these jobs. He's not a competitive applicant compared to a uk citizen with skills & experience.

Yes I know but even jobs that don't need skills or experience he's not getting them

He can pick most things up very quickly and is a great worker.

Kindly, you don't know he's a great worker, you haven't worked with him surely?

His colleagues where gutted to lose him and his 2 supervisors tried everything to keep him on but people at the top wouldn't budge they got rid of loads of agency staff and he was last out he got a collection card etc they loved him there.

I think she claims he's her carer.

Not my carer in that sense in our initial application it was, stated that due to my mental health issues it would be devastating for us to be split apart as I'm adhd/autistic etc etc also suffer from depression.

So at this point, when between you, you earned too much to qualify for benefits, why was some money not spent on some training and quals?
Let me guess.... Because he was sending money 'home'.
OP this man is not here to make a real home and life and to contribute to the economy, he just wants to extract money and return it home.
I suspect his relationship with you is more about housing and convenience and enabling him to send money home, than a true relationship.
If he was committed to the UK and you, he'd be upskilling with a view to improving his life here.

Well you have a point about money going home but we've also been dealing with the cost of living and then visa fees as well.

He's a drain on your resources OP. You can do better than him, he needs to go.

In which case OP he shouldnt have been sending chunks of money home, he can't afford to.
You need to open your eyes about thus guy, ive read the threads you've posted before and it sounds like you are his meal ticket.
God know he could even have a wife and kids back home hes supporting. How would you know.

We seem to hit obstacles all of the time as some want the gcse grades etc to accept people on a apprenticeship.

I would start with evening classes at the local college. To do GCSE maths and English where I live it’s £200, that price includes both exams and tutoring for two hour lessons each week. Then at least he has some UK recognised qualifications. From there, he might be able to enroll on a plumbing/ electrician course. I think £200 is a bargain to gain two GCSE’s, personally. Though the price may be different where you are.

Other options:
Self employment/trades:
Painting & decorating
Garden services
Care work often needs male workers to deal with male patients - try care homes. Especially if he can help with lifting etc.

You'd be limited in some of these areas without a driving licence.

Solent123 · 31/10/2024 23:38

To answer your question, he can't get a job by directly to applying to employers because his application / skills / experience isn't as good as the other people applying.

Cornflakelover · 31/10/2024 23:45

Has he tried to get his Door Safe / Security badge
if you get UC then they will often pay for the initial course training and badge

once he has that he can get work in security
There is plenty of work in security .

my son got his badge at 18 and had never been out of work

he’s done ( when younger ) all the big festivals Reading Glastonbury V festival
He worked at football stadiums nightclubs airports

he did 2 seasons abroad working in one of the big superclubs in Ibiza as they like to have a few British door staff 😂

He now works for the NHS as permanent staff in the security department for the past 3 years
because of the shift and the enhancement’s he gets with his shift work he earns a decent wage

he also works a few door shifts a month for his old boss and he genuinely enjoys his job
