Right, well, first off, I love it here. i especially love it because there are plenty of intelligent, witty posters.
However, I am frequently surprised at threads relating to pornography, exchanging sex for "gifts" and fanjo shaving, etc. Now, I know we've all got different ideas about what is acceptable, but sometimes it's like feminism never happened.

OP posts:
PrincessConsualaBananaHammock · 25/04/2008 14:34

Well I like to shave my 'Fanjo' it feels nicer when you wear bikini's or thongs and you don't get sweaty there after a work out as much either!!! IMO

CatIsSleepy · 25/04/2008 14:34

DSM they are agony for me- itch like crazy
scratching your fanjo all time is not a good look

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 14:35

that's funny.

in the old irish tales of the big heroes, wars would be stopped by women storming onto the fields baring their breasts at the men.

hardly a new thing that taking off clothes = empowerment.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:35

Bollocks for you, not bollocks for other people.

I just get the feeling that all the people who think its so bad to shave, look good, take off your clothes etc, maybe look down on the women who do? As if they are less intelligent and have a lower understanding of feminism.

I absoloutely think that most of you would think that strippers, models, dancers, etc are of a lesser intelligence, and are non feminist.

PrincessConsualaBananaHammock · 25/04/2008 14:35

I will agree there tho' catissleepy sometimes I get itchy but my DP says well if you keeps on top of it it won't itch.

CatIsSleepy · 25/04/2008 14:36

expat I have skin like elephant hide
there is no product in the world that can help

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:37

how did you come to believe that taking clothes off shows confidence dirtysexy? Who told you that?

It's OBM btw. OBT sounds a bit Ilkley moor bartat.

CatIsSleepy · 25/04/2008 14:38

I don't think the early feminists were fighting the great fight for girls to pose in their pants in Nuts magazine
but maybe that's just me

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 14:38

Lads mags piss me off, value of a woman is judged upon the size of her breasts and how slim the rest of her is.... men and women are guilty of this. Why girls now go to lapdancing bars and woman are, again, a commodity? Why some truly believe that lapdancer enjoys and is proud of her job, if she had more of a brain she would earn more doing something else! Can we look at acheivement for our women that involves a little hard work, not I've got big tits, look at my tits, wow there's my pay cheque?

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:38

OBM - do you watch any porn?!

Porn is not all about women. Gay porn is probably a bigger market than female porn. The homemade stuff tends to be couples, especially the hetero stuff.

They choose to do this, mainly for their own pleasure. Voyeurism is a fetish for millions of people.

Oblomov · 25/04/2008 14:38

This thread is wierd.
Is anything actually being discussed ? apart from Brazillians ?

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:39

It is possible that they might have a less complex understanding of feminism though, dirtysexy? I really do mean that. I think that acknowledging cultural conditioning is vital really in order to understand any analysis of power systems.

motherinferior · 25/04/2008 14:40

Ah, yes, of course I'm a feminist because I'm plug-ugly and jealous, obviously. Wonder why nobody's ever suggested that to me before?

I have, incidentally, whacking great tits. I don't however expect them to make my living.

ipanemagirl · 25/04/2008 14:40

LOL Alistairsim

I expect to get the whole range of what I find offensive and inoffensive opinion on mn and I expect to offend and not offend if I'm swinging strong opinions round my head here.

I do think there is a real question though to be asked about the death of feminism. I think feminism doesn't bother most women because they do not feel their rights are being infringed.

I don't bother talking porn on mn, it just polarises ime.

I think if women had more sisterly solidarity we would all be horrified by the scale of human trafficking into prostitution in this country. But it rarely comes up among my womenfolk, I must admit.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:40

Yes DSM I have watched a lot of porn, and been on several porn sets.

here we go, madamaz

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 14:41

I see your point, OBM, to an extent. However, to my mind, old school feminism (as you call it) was a blantant reaction to what had existed before. What we have now is more of a free for all.

I like to look sexy for my husband. I don't want him just to appreciate my mind (which he does) I want him to want me, sexually. I choose to get waxed and wear g-strings in the absolute knowledge that I'm doing it to turn him on. I don't do it because I feel I have to. I could be hairy and always wear big knickers and I'm sure he'd still love me. I choose to do more for me as well as him. I don't do it because Loaded makes me feel I should.

ipanemagirl · 25/04/2008 14:41

LOL motherinferior, good line about not expecting them to make you a living!

CatIsSleepy · 25/04/2008 14:41

LOL MI
confidence is not just about your body is it? You can be happy and confident without feeling the need to strip off for the lads

PosieParker · 25/04/2008 14:42

DSM, you're spot on I do think that a woman who takes her clothes off is pretty stupid, I couldn't care less if she has a Phd in Maths, she is stupid to think anyone has any respect for her. It serves no purpose, helps no one and gives nothing.
I LOL when I heard a lapdancer say that she had great conversations with her clients because I'm pretty sure they weren't interested at all in her opinion about anything except to make them feel that what they were doing was neither sad, dirty or pathetic.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:42

If you have the looks to support a career that means you can earn £200 a day, then why not?

Saying dancers do not have a brain is extremely ignorant. Many do it to fund university. And I can promise you, 90% of them really do enjoy doing it. This idea that it is all seedy and the women cry after every show hating themselves is so far beyond ridiculous. The men are not even allowed to touch. Its about teasing, and yes, that actually can be empowering.

And dancing/modelling etc actually does involve hard work, and suggesting it doesn't shows nothing but ignorance. Its women making comments like those that makes the women doing these jobs feel less worthy.

"ts women making comments like those that makes the women doing these jobs feel less worthy."

No dsm it's the fact that they're selling themselves that makes them feel less worthy.

Do you really believe that 90% of women, given the op to make same money fully clothed would choose it?

Have you heard of self-delusion, in which one's psyche adapts one's emotions in order to avoid feeling pain?

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 14:46

I totally disagree with you,PP!

Why shouldn't a pretty girl with good breasts but who isn't academic use her body to make her a good living rather than work in Topshop? Even if she is academic, so what? I bet she'd make more than I do teaching!

Oblomov · 25/04/2008 14:46

I don't have a problem with modelling. Everyone likes to look at beautiful people.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:47

Making money based on your looks does not mean you are lower intelligence.
