Right, well, first off, I love it here. i especially love it because there are plenty of intelligent, witty posters.
However, I am frequently surprised at threads relating to pornography, exchanging sex for "gifts" and fanjo shaving, etc. Now, I know we've all got different ideas about what is acceptable, but sometimes it's like feminism never happened.

What I can't stand is reading women preaching and bitching to each other over simple lifestyle choices.

Fine, give her hell if she comes on here saying she thinks women should beat their children, shag married men or read the DM

BUT...

...not cause she shaves her bits, jokingly gives BJs in exchange for shoes or decides to SAH (or work)

Feminism is about CHOICE! End of!

MoreSpamThanGlam · 25/04/2008 13:55

I dont watch porn but love my new brazillian - I love being a strong fiesty opinionated woman. i also like nail varnish - what a rebel....

madamez · 25/04/2008 13:56

Men can have their pubes off too - never heard of the 'back, sac and crack wax'?

BTW, what rape thread?

well said cc! And unless I'm missing another thread the bj comment was never about getting a pair of shoes, it was acyually somehtin my DH said but seems to have been taken totally out of context - oh well these things happen I suppose

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 13:57

IMO there is a group of women, here and in RL, who revel in a kind of 'liberated'/libertarian anti-feminism for effect. It strikes me as adolescent and tedious.

These are not the same people as the thoughtful (tho IMO, erm, misguided) pro-porn feminists on here.

quint · 25/04/2008 13:58

You know some women actually enjoy oral sex!!

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 13:59

I didn't think it's about enjoying it or not quint, it was about 'selling' it.

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 13:59

I think the posts that were linked showed women suggesting it tongue in cheek, yes!

Women engaging in any kind of sexual banter with their partner is in no way the same as women actually having to perform sexual acts in order to possess footwear. Give me a break!!

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:00

chequers. I wonder why it was deleted though?

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 14:01

Is this a joke?

A woman choosing to shave her own body is misogynist? What?!

I shave mine every day. I hate the feeling of having hair there. It is not done for the benefit of a man (I'm single) but when I do have sex, I much prefer it and it gives me more confidence to know that the man probably finds it more sexy.

I also enjoy porn, and don't see that it is misogynist. Men are in porn too, you know.

Feminism is about women being equal to men, and being able to make their own choices, and do everything men can do without being judged.

So now I am being judged, by other women, for the choices I make?

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:06

No, you're absolutely right cc re tongue in cheek (boom-boom).

But I do think that there's an argument to be made about normalization of porn/prostitution, through its ironization.

So the objection is not so much to the amusing domestic exchange, but to the effect of this comedy moment on how we perceive prostitution.

madamez · 25/04/2008 14:07

OBM

OrmIrian · 25/04/2008 14:09

Who mentioned post-feminism...

And is it possibly to give bjs jokingly. At what point do you stop and say 'only joking'? And would he laugh...

MrsMattie · 25/04/2008 14:09

Little girls have no pubes. In the last few years, it has become fashionable, nay, normal for grown women to remove their pubic hair. can you not see the connection? I can certainly see the disturbing element in that. Culturally, adult female pubic hair is no longer acceptable. It's not 'hygenic' (such a load of bollocks). It's not sexy (no self respecting porno star would have pubes, would they?). It's not what men want.

I'm all for women doing what they want to do. Trust me, I'm not going to campaign against your right to shave your fanj! But I do think it's a very nasty phenomenon.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:10

dirtySexyMummy, I think that, as on other threads, you will find that some of us agree that Choice is Choice and perfectly straightforward. Others, including me, feel that our 'choices' are inevitably influenced by society and our surroundings, and are frequently far from straightforward.
So 'no-one forced me to' is not in itself a argument-stopper..

Tortington · 25/04/2008 14:10

i'm a socialist, and if dh said to me - "unblock the toilet and your up for a shag" i'd unblock the toilet and have a shag.

shaving of fanjo is cleaner IMO, certainly my dh doesn;t care one way or the other, pornography is great - get over it

feminism didn;t happen - your deluded if you think feminism changed things for the average person

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:11

lol OrmIrian. I'd say just before the critical moment, as they say in rude historical romances.

Gobbledigook · 25/04/2008 14:11

What's wrong with fanjo shaving? I don't watch any porn whatsoever but I prefer less than more

perhaps these people are post-feminists
me, I'll be a post feminist when we have post patriarchy.

well said nw girl

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 14:12

a Brazilian does not remove all the hair.

it's been practiced in that country for a loooonngg time. because people wear thong bikinis over there. yes, men also wear next to nothing on the beaches there.

it's original intent was to remove the hair that may poke out of a thong bikini.

suzywong · 25/04/2008 14:12

Ah, hello Custy, I thought you'd fecked off in a huff? I miss so much on MN these days.

I'm the same, I'd do pretty much anything for a shag off dh, he knows it and plays hard to get to keep me keen.
