Right, well, first off, I love it here. i especially love it because there are plenty of intelligent, witty posters.
However, I am frequently surprised at threads relating to pornography, exchanging sex for "gifts" and fanjo shaving, etc. Now, I know we've all got different ideas about what is acceptable, but sometimes it's like feminism never happened.

Because I have the brains to earn more or the heart to give more or the gumption to achieve... if it comes down to how you look then there's really nothing more valuable about yourself is there. Women dancing to put themselves through Uni is a myth perpetuated to make people feel better about strippers.
Jesus I earnt more in my first year of work after Uni and still had self respect.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:48

possibly, cc, because as motherinferior says, it will be her tits that have made her living, not her.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:48

Oh, and there is no way that the women who do those jobs would make the same money, fully clothed. Not without working about 5x the amount of hours they do.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:49

no, dsm, but IMO describing that position as feminist, does.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 14:49

people sell themselves all the time. we're all prostitutes of one sort or another, whether you sell your brain or your tits, you're selling a bit of yourself to get money.

what's wrong with modelling?

i mean, the fashion sort, not the titty sort.

although, fashion models often show their tits - kate moss has.

why not use what she's given to make a good living.

for all i dislike her, she's anything but a stupid businesswoman.

ditto other models like heidi klum and tyra banks who've used their modelling careers to move into TV and other businesses.

'The men are not even allowed to touch. Its about teasing, and yes, that actually can be empowering.'
sorry I really don't see how 'teasing' a bunch of slavering men is empowering
am I a dreadful prude?

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:50

"Oh, and there is no way that the women who do those jobs would make the same money, fully clothed. Not without working about 5x the amount of hours they do."

that is precisely my point dsm.

Posie - do you have the looks to be a dancer or model? I don't mean to be nasty, I am just asking if you have actually had the choice and chosen to take the other route?

And the brains to earn more? Tell me a job that earns more for the number of hours work you have to do!

Dancers doing it to fund their way through university is not a myth, BTW!

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:51

OBM - what do you mean?

cushioncover · 25/04/2008 14:52

It's so bloody self-rightous to say 'well it's ok that I earn 50K a year because I do it using my intellect!' As if that is so much more deserving than using any other God given gift.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:52

in general, or something specific, dsm?

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:53

OBM - I mean what do you mean here:

Even Katie Price could be described as 'resourceful'. I mean the women has made millions, from modelling, books, fashion, all sorts of stuff. She has been given some decent business advice, somewhere along the lines.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:53

Cushioncover - hear hear.

ruty · 25/04/2008 14:54

totally agree with you about the lad mag repositioning of liberation onebay. Gawd you are clever.

ruty · 25/04/2008 14:54

onebat even...

Oblomov · 25/04/2008 14:54

I couldn't make a penny from modelling or prostitution or anything else body/looks wise. So count me out.

DirtySexyMummy · 25/04/2008 14:55

What part of you thinks it involves no work?

Do you think musicians should stop using their god-given talent and get a 'proper' job? Whats the difference? We are all blessed with different strong-points. How sad to feel someones strong points are not as good as yours.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 14:55

they DO work, though, mmj.

all models work, just as all accountants do.

those teens will soon realise that they have to work to get that money - go to castings, to the gym, etc.

i don't know much about tit models, admittedly, but i have a first cousin who is a model of Ford Models, a fashion modelling agency.

it IS work, but she makes her living off her looks.

onebatmother · 25/04/2008 14:56

that your position of 'they love it, they earn loads and they're all reaaaaly happy' can never be tested, given that, as you admit, this is the only way that most lap-dancers could make this kind of money.

CAN'T YOU ALL SEE THAT YOU'VE BEEN CONNED?

Must do school run.

No.. I said this is the only way they could make that much money for those number of hours!

Do you have any idea what kind of money they earn? Obviously not.
