Positing on aibu in hopes to get more of a response .
my 1 year old has her 12 month vaccines on Wednesday, I wasn’t overthinking it until I seen TikTok’s of reactions to the vaccine , then all the comments saying how after the vaccine their child was having seizures, gave them health issues etc etc and how it is “literal poison” and that “they don’t make money if you’re not poorly, the vaccines are poison” also multiple stated they’ve never vaccinated their kids and they’re really healthy and never sick compared to those who have been vaccinated . My one year old is up to date with hers and now I’m absolutely dreading these one as obviously there’s 2 new ones she’s never had , am I massively overthinking this? I knowwww if she doesn’t get vaccinated she can get really sick, but then people telling me that it’s going to cause health issues, seizures, possibly Sid’s ? Is making me too scared to do it , I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences, and in hopes to reassure me that I’m doing the right thing by getting her vaccinated . I don’t want anything bad to happen to her I’m so scared . (Before anyone asks , yes I have bad anxiety as you’ll tell from my other threads lol) I don’t wanna pass it on to my daughter I just wanna do the right thing , thanks in advance

Get your medical advice from the NHS, not TikTok.

Sorry, hit post too soon. The vaccines are life saving. Please please give them to your DC.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 28/10/2024 21:36

It is the right thing to get your child vaccinated.

If you’re worried you can split the vaccines and do some at 12 m and the rest at 13 m

RocketPanda · 28/10/2024 21:37

I can go on TikTok and say vaccines caused my child to turn purple and start speaking French. Doesn't make it true.

Are you really going to believe some random people on TikTok over proper medical research?

Ellamaee · 28/10/2024 21:36

No I know , i was just reading other people’s experiences on Tiktok and it scared me !

There are side effects to all medications and you’re much more likely to hear form those who had negative experiences as it wouldn’t make good viewing to be boring on tik tok so please don’t worry

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 28/10/2024 21:38

You just want to do the right thing?? Well quite obviously you should follow the official health guidance (ie get the vaccinations) than listen to ignorant twats on TikTok.

Your anxiety shouldn’t stop you from being able to apply common sense.

ToriMJ · 28/10/2024 21:38

Tik tok is full of shit.

KrisAkabusi · 28/10/2024 21:39

FFS! Take medical advice from the professionals, not some randomers on tiktok. Or here.

Led921900 · 28/10/2024 21:39
  1. the diseases are worse
  2. my kids absolutely fine after vaccines at 1 year. They needed a bit of calpol for the meningitis one but not sure that’s in the 1 year vaccines. (My youngest turns 2 in a few days).
  3. tik tok etc apps are self reinforcing the more you engage with scare stories the more you’ll see, just stop it!
AgainandagainandagainSS · 28/10/2024 21:39

Keep off ridiculous, unregulated social media and ask a doctor if you have any questions.
I thought only naive teenagers took advice off tiktoc…

AgeGapBbe · 28/10/2024 21:39

Look up the side effects to paracetamol, then tell me you’re not going to take any ever again, or give your child calpol.

Gnomy · 28/10/2024 21:39

I have no issue with people doing their own research. I have a massive issue when that research is on TikTok and not reputable sources.

Please tell me it wasn’t also about pharma companies and conspiracy theory because let me tell you they’re making quite enough money from weight loss jabs.

wafflesmgee · 28/10/2024 21:41

Give your child the lifesaving immunisations.

NinevehBabylon · 28/10/2024 21:44

Sorry OP but do you actually sound very young. The distrust of real reputable knowledge and authority is a bit cringey, like a naive or rebellious teenager.

Ellamaee · 28/10/2024 21:45

It was people who have “researched” and was just commenting on TikTok’s , not doing my research on Tiktok !
im fully aware she needs them , but I have ocd and anxiety, one person comments their experiences and go anti vax, it does scare me ! But I will be vaccinating her again , I’m just so scared and people have scared me into thinking something bad will happen to her

Quite frankly if you take your medical advice from Tik tok I'm not sure you're an adult and should be responsible for a child

im reading comments from people who have done research, I’m not saying they’re right or wrong , I’m just worried cause of my own anxiety. I’m 23!

discoballdave · 28/10/2024 21:47

There's a medically advised pathway of splitting them so one is given at 12 months and the others a little later. Speak to your GP about it and see how they can advise you.

discoballdave · 28/10/2024 21:47

Sorry, medically recognised (as in studied) not straight up advised.

Sleepadvice · 28/10/2024 21:48

Your medical advice should be coming from the experts at the World Health Organisation/NHS, not TikTok. If you want to educate yourself about vaccines, read medical research papers and understand how harmful the diseases we vaccinate against are. Vaccinations are life saving and we are hugely fortunate that our children are afforded this protection for free in the UK. By not vaccinating you not only put your own child at risk, but also others by reducing herd immunity.

Nobodywantsthis · 28/10/2024 21:48

Omg 🤦 where do I even start.

Ellamaee · 28/10/2024 21:49

people seem to be getting the wrong message and I’m sorry if it comes across as me taking medical advice from Tiktok I AM NOT ! I’m simply saying I was reading other people’s comments on THEIR experiences, and their reasonings for not vaccinating their kids. All I know about the vaccines is that they stop them getting deadly diseases which is a no brainier to me . Then I read something about it being poison with my anxiety I’m gonna start doubting ! I’m not listening to anyone of Tiktok and I do plan on asking my health visitor tomorrow
