Positing on aibu in hopes to get more of a response .
my 1 year old has her 12 month vaccines on Wednesday, I wasn’t overthinking it until I seen TikTok’s of reactions to the vaccine , then all the comments saying how after the vaccine their child was having seizures, gave them health issues etc etc and how it is “literal poison” and that “they don’t make money if you’re not poorly, the vaccines are poison” also multiple stated they’ve never vaccinated their kids and they’re really healthy and never sick compared to those who have been vaccinated . My one year old is up to date with hers and now I’m absolutely dreading these one as obviously there’s 2 new ones she’s never had , am I massively overthinking this? I knowwww if she doesn’t get vaccinated she can get really sick, but then people telling me that it’s going to cause health issues, seizures, possibly Sid’s ? Is making me too scared to do it , I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences, and in hopes to reassure me that I’m doing the right thing by getting her vaccinated . I don’t want anything bad to happen to her I’m so scared . (Before anyone asks , yes I have bad anxiety as you’ll tell from my other threads lol) I don’t wanna pass it on to my daughter I just wanna do the right thing , thanks in advance

@Ellamaee I mean you literally made a post about how worried you were because of idiots on TikTok?

thanks everyone ! I am definitely vaccinating her , it’s just my anxiety but as i said , I won’t let that interfere with her health

I am glad you are going ahead OP.

These people on tiktok are nuts, and quite often they are liars as well. Please do not take them seriously.

Jesus you're getting medical advice from tiktok!

My family has a lot of doctors in it. Every single one of them has veen the forst in line to get their children vaccinated x

I’m not getting medical advice from Tiktok as I’ve said loads of times now, I simply stated that I was reading comments of people’s views /experiences. I’d never take medical advice from anyone who wasn’t professional, I just wanted other peoples views on it as anxiety is cruel and can cause doubt when reading these things x

youre right , good observation! Because my anxiety is bad and seeing that is only going to make it worse and create doubt . But does that mean I’m gonna listen to them? No!

im reading comments from people who have done research, I’m not saying they’re right or wrong , I’m just worried cause of my own anxiety. I’m 23!

These people have NOT done any research, they're just anti vaxers who claim to have researched it. If they'd done any sort of proper research they would be pro vaccine and not spreading their ignorance and misinformation

I know that , trust me ! Sometimes my anxiety causes doubt, ESPECIALLY if it’s people scaring me into not vaccinating my child with horror stories ! But as everyone has made it very very clear , I won’t listen and take medical professionals advice

Her vaccines have been cancelled for tomorrow (not by me) and moved to 6th November . Is it okay for her to have her jabs 17 days after She turned one or does it have to be closer than that?

OP posts:
fiftiesmum · 29/10/2024 11:48

Of course it is fine - those vaccines used to be done at 16 months and uptake was low - by moving it to twelve months more people are still on mat leave.
The body doesn't know the rules.

Thank you ☺️ I just wasn’t sure if it’s left later , the more likely they can get sick etc

@Ellamaee well done for asking for 2nd opinions on here, having seen things on TikTok that concerned you. As someone who is a much older mother than you, take a deep breath, and well done for asking on here. If you see something on TikTok or other social media that concerns you, step away from the media and look on reputable sites, such as NHS sites, or your health visitor, for guidance. You recognise that you're anxious, but you are definitely able to make good decisions for your baby.

KeyWorker · 29/10/2024 12:00

Which vaccine specifically? There are 4 vaccinations at 12 months, 2 of which they will have had before if they are fully vaccinated on the UK vaccine schedules.

Id advise you delete TicToc to be honest.

DreadPirateRobots · 29/10/2024 12:03

Do medical professionals and medical researchers get their DC vaccinated? Yes. Overwhelmingly. Unless there are genuine medical contraindications.

Case closed. The people who know by far the most about vaccines give vaccines to their DC because they want the best for their DC.

If you're anxiety is so bad that utter rubbish about vaccines on TikTok is making you have anxieties about them, then you put your MH first and delete your TikTok account and remove the app from your phone!

AlteredStater · 29/10/2024 12:18

Your anxiety is pushing you the wrong way! You know vaccines prevent horrible childhood illnesses. Forget about the rubbish on TikTok!

This is a lovely post and I agree with your sentiments.
I am an older mother and had DD before all this social media nonsense started influencing people to make the wrong decisions.

TikTok is great for recipes and watching kittens, but for anything serious that requires peer reviewed research then checking on the NHS website is a good start. The NHS wants to spend as little as possible, so anything that prevents disease is going to cost them far less than having to treat people with a preventable disease.

My dc had is one year old vaccine this morning. Popped a couple of cheerios in his mouth as the needle went in and he barely cried. He did fall asleep in the shopping trolley after though.

Get your medical advice from the NHS, not TikTok.

Sorry, hit post too soon. The vaccines are life saving. Please please give them to your DC.

Just to add to the reassurance, my baby had no side effects whatsoever from the 1 year jabs, not even a temperature. They were by far the easiest for us, she had temps and a bad tummy from the 8/12/16 week ones. Also got the chicken pox privately and no reactions to that either. A few friends little ones had a temp and a mild rash after the MMR but cleared up very quickly. You're absolutely doing the best thing for your little one by getting them jabbed.

Needanewname42 · 29/10/2024 13:18

Op talk to your mum, did she have you vaccinated - did your head fall off ?

No look at the kids around you 90% will have been vaccinated.
Please don't gamble with your kids live.

Note I'm never 100% sure on flu vaccines because they change every year but the standard vaccines that haven't changed in decades run and get them

Thank you ! My girl didn’t have any reactions the her 8/12/16 week ones, which is why I’m so worried she’ll have a reaction to these ones because there’s 2 new ones she not had yet! But I know it’ll stop her from getting these awful diseases, it’s just the “what ifs” like bad allergic reaction etc that scares me , will have calpol at ready! How would I know if the rash is from the vaccine ? Is that a normal side effect ?
