Positing on aibu in hopes to get more of a response .
my 1 year old has her 12 month vaccines on Wednesday, I wasn’t overthinking it until I seen TikTok’s of reactions to the vaccine , then all the comments saying how after the vaccine their child was having seizures, gave them health issues etc etc and how it is “literal poison” and that “they don’t make money if you’re not poorly, the vaccines are poison” also multiple stated they’ve never vaccinated their kids and they’re really healthy and never sick compared to those who have been vaccinated . My one year old is up to date with hers and now I’m absolutely dreading these one as obviously there’s 2 new ones she’s never had , am I massively overthinking this? I knowwww if she doesn’t get vaccinated she can get really sick, but then people telling me that it’s going to cause health issues, seizures, possibly Sid’s ? Is making me too scared to do it , I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences, and in hopes to reassure me that I’m doing the right thing by getting her vaccinated . I don’t want anything bad to happen to her I’m so scared . (Before anyone asks , yes I have bad anxiety as you’ll tell from my other threads lol) I don’t wanna pass it on to my daughter I just wanna do the right thing , thanks in advance

PS I would also encourage you to look at getting the chicken pox vaccine done privately! The JCVI has now recommended to the government that it be included in the vaccine schedule but if approved by DHSC you'll just miss out.

Other countries have more or less eradicated childhood chicken pox, which can be really nasty in some cases. My DS1 is now 13 and still has the scars from when he was two, he was quite unwell with it. The vaccine is most effective when given in childhood and also greatly reduces the risk of shingles later in life.

Shows you what I know, I didn’t even know there was a chicken pox vaccine ?! Is it worth getting that ? I can’t remember ever getting it , I had chicken pox when I was around 7/8 years old it wasn’t too bad !

And seconding @JassyRadlett's advice on the chicken pox vaccine. Do get it if you can! Three really nasty bouts of chicken pox have gone round when DS has been in nursery/school and he's never got any of them. Some of the kids were so poorly with it.

JassyRadlett · 28/10/2024 22:15

I hope your baby breezes through! From memory mine were a bit grizzly but also slept loads after the MMR and were right as rain within 36 hours.

I strongly believe that every child who can be vaccinated should be but can't everyone give the op a break now? She's said way back thread that she's taken things on board and will go ahead with the vaccinations but people are STILL ripping her to pieces! It's not fair.

Thank you, I expected it honestly it doesn’t bother me 🤣

You won’t get discussion on here. Look up Robert F. Kennedy Jr speeches on the subject. He covers a lot

H0mEredward · 28/10/2024 22:17

You have a hard job on your hands. We have all the conversations our mums and grans had with our neighbours but in addition we also have books and now the internet.
The overwhelming amount of information to do what's best is huge.
What about delaying the appointment?
You could then think about why these internet clips are making you doubt these specific ones. You can talk to other mums locally.

It's okay to think twice.
Its okay to go against the grain.

Jl2014 · 28/10/2024 22:18

Tik toks and literal poison? Fuck me, I actually despair for the world. 🤦‍♂️
you need to come off social media. You are not ready for it.

dd was okay with her last sets of jabs I don’t even think she has any side effects. It’s just because there’s 2 new ones she’s never had is worrying me :(

Robert F Kennedy claims that a worm ate part of his brain. If that's true then you probably shouldn't trust his brain, and if it's false you probably shouldn't trust his speeches. He is a very, very unwell man.

bakewellbride · 28/10/2024 22:19

@Ellamaee we didn't bother with the chicken pox vaccine but have got every single other vaccination on offer for our children and my husband is a medical professional in the nhs so I feel happy with our decision. Eldest got chicken pox as a toddler and it was very mild. The other vaccinations are essential imo.

Stay away from tik tok, it is full of crazy people. Some on there even believe that you shouldn't brush your child's teeth 'because fluoride is toxic' I mean come on! Just avoid and use the nhs website and well done on deciding to go for the vaccinations by the way x

Tink3rbell30 · 28/10/2024 22:19

Christ ignore Tiktok and give the vaccinations.

SD1978 · 28/10/2024 22:19

You've looked at a skewed group of anti vaccinators, and now your feed will be filled with of this. Look at medical research.

I managed to breeze through my whole childhood without it despite being exposed loads of times, then caught it off my grandmother who had shingles when I was 21. It was horrific.

It's not cheap to have it done privately but I really regret not having DS1 vaccinated. He was properly unwell with it, with really deep blisters that were painful rather than itchy. Like I said, he still has the scars and a much higher chance of developing shingles later in life than his brother, who got vaccinated the first second we could get him done.

My family in Australia are always shocked at our attitude to chicken pox in the U.K., it's been part of the vaccine schedule there for about 20 years now. They think we're a bit barbaric with our "just something kids have to suffer through" view.

LouH1981 · 28/10/2024 22:20

My advice, as someone who also has health anxiety and who has recently deleted TikTok because of scaremongering concerning the flu vaccine, is to definitely get her vaccinated.
My (vaccinated) 9 year old recently had whooping cough and he really struggled so I’d hate to think how a baby would manage.

If you have any concerns, write them down (so your mind can rest) and discuss them with the nurse at the appointment. It might give you some reassurance if you think you might worry afterwards xx

igglepigglegingin · 28/10/2024 22:20

I'd be more anxious skipping or delaying the vaccines.
DC3 was ill a lot and he didn't have them until 14 months and I was banging the GPs door down!

The diseases are what you should be frightened of. Research those.

Mercedes45 · 28/10/2024 22:21

If your anxiety is this bad you need to stay away from social media.

MosaDiCello · 28/10/2024 22:22

OP I'm sorry you're feeling anxious about your child's immunisations and to be honest it is scary trusting someone with your child's health. Have you spoken to your GP about your worries, you are entitled to ask questions and tell the nurse if you are worried and why. These immunisation protect your child from getting those nasty diseases that can potentially cause developmental problems to your child or even worse...

Speak to your GP to ease your anxiety about them.

I had my two privately vaccinated through Boots in the U.K. Cost just under £200.
So glad I did, for the reasons you mentioned above.

It was a few years ago now for my dc but I vividly remember the 8 week vaccinations side effects. I couldn't put my dc down without them screaming and they were a tiny hot water bottle. I barely moved from the sofa for the first 36 hours. So with regards to the 1 year vaccinations I was well prepared with calpol, snacks by side, box sets ready to go etc and yes there were side effects but only a slightly raised temperature and a bit grizzly. Otherwise it was a normal day.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 28/10/2024 22:24

Please get her vaccinated. And then delete tik tok. Now you’ve looked the algorithms will feed you more conspiracy rubbish.
Speak to your gp or to your health visitor about any concerns. But please please vaccinate her. Mine had a high temperature the night after the vaccine but that was it. Nothing a cuddle and some calpol couldnt cure.

niclw · 28/10/2024 22:26

I forgot to say that side effects from vaccines tend to be the vaccine getting to work to build up immunity. I had the flu vaccine last week and my arm still has a large bump and is slightly warm but nothing major.

MosaDiCello · 28/10/2024 22:26

... noted immunologist Robert F Kennedy? No, because he has no medical or scientific credentials.

The anti-vaccine group he chairs had also campaigned against such horrors as paracetamol, and still pushes the thoroughly disproven "link" between vaccines and autism.

I'm up for discussion, but only if it's properly sourced. 🙂

Japanese2024 · 28/10/2024 22:26

My child is perfectly healthy after all their vaccines. I'm so glad I got them and it also protects other kids they mix with.

My friends parents didn't believe in vaccines and she became very sick as a teenager. Entirely preventable by vaccines and they were extremely regretful
