Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

Our head used to have an arrangement with the local parking wardens for them to regularly be around at pick up time, as letters home about parking on the school markings were not seemingly getting through.

We did manage to get them to come around our area as well, but as I said, now they've been transferred to the county rather than the district and the parents know that, so now they park badly with impunity and the police aren't interested, even when it's dangerous rather than just annoying.

johnson39 · 25/10/2024 15:03

School run time now , watch out for those dangerous 4 x 4 drivers 😂

Look down on them for driving cars that are too big and parking like assholes when they could just walk. Like the OP is saying.

You're assuming that mummy is going straight home, when she could be going straight to swimming, football, judo, Etc because her Tarzan is way too important to do that himself.

My husband actually said yesterday to our DIL that he never had time for harvest festival, school Halloween parties, school discos, Xmas concerts, beavers, cubs, rugby, swimming etc.

Well no he never made time. But he did have time to moan when the boot of the big car was full of PTA bits, sports kits, pushchair, spare clothes and he wanted the big car for his hobbies, then it was a skip I had to clean out.

I simply think money is worth more when you earn it yourself.

Hahahahaha it's really not! You're money is WORTH the exact same as their money.

I don’t think those cars are too big TBH, it depends how you drive them. SOME people park badly. IME it’s men, no matter what car size but I don’t get weirdly resentful about their appearance or financial status.

Seeing as you’re back - and what’s a “Yummy mummy”?

The answer is always a woman who is prettier than me, richer than me, seems to have an easier life and always be enjoying herself.
Its rooter in misogyny.
Mother’s should not be that happy.
Mother’s should not have it that easy.
Mother’s shouldn’t have that much help.
Mother’s shouldn’t have time to go to the gym.

Aaaaand we're back to the lazy jealous accusations. It's like banging your head against a brick wall honestly.

You weren’t standing up for her you were rattling off a load of rental misogynistic nonsense based ENTIRELY on how you feel about yourself, not on how other women view you. You thought nobody would be smart enough to see through it - how sad for you.

You never did tell us if the yummy mummies (again what IS a yummy mummy?) told you to your face that you’re a neglectful mother or if you’re projecting-by-proxy

I've defined a yummy mummy twice, it got deleted because people didn't like it apparently.

You can't get over how I apparently feel about myself can you? You're way off the mark so give up.

Also most off your replies have been deleted for being nasty bullshit so where are you claiming the moral high ground from exactly?

But claiming all sahm’s are vacuous, boring, have no life and no interests just because don’t full time isn’t boring and unimaginative.

Even the notion that someone who doesn’t work and therefore has significantly more time to spend on things they enjoy is boring and dull is pretty pathetic.

This. I'm a sahm who doesn't own a car, not interested in fashion, yoga or superficial lunches. University educated and interested in many subjects. Don't think I qualify for the epithet "yummy mummy" 😂

Didimum · 25/10/2024 16:30

Hmmm. To be honest, I totally get the criticism of the stay at home parent with the big fancy car. I would feel sorry for the working mum who lives out of town desperate to get their kid in school because she’s anxious to avoid a cross word from her manager about lateness. I do not feel sorry for parents parking out of convenience and entitlement when they have zero need to and they should not argue about a ticket for making a dumb, highly avoidable decision when their car signals a lot wealth.

TheGander · 25/10/2024 16:30

Yes I do disapprove of parents who drive vehicles that are unnecessarily large for city living, that contribute to climate change when actually they could walk their kids to school. I have done the whole school thing with the subtle or not so subtle status symbols of people carrier, blonde highlights, Mulberry handbags etcand it can be hard not to feel inadequate somehow because one doesn’t possess these things especially when a kind of hierarchy is established around the school gates. It is not just a neutral choice of car, it’s a social signifier and many are buying into this. Why do you need a land rover when you live in London FGS? To go and check your field? To drive over a brook? To retrieve a lost sheep? Or to let people know how much money you have?

Well I've finished beating my washing against the stones down by the river, just going to put it all sopping wet in the land rover,. And drive around with the windows open until the water has dripped out the back 😂

Paris is pricing these types of cars out of their city, it's not a particularly intelligent choice of vehicle

LlynTegid · 25/10/2024 16:48

I think it should not be a fine, regardless of who the driver is or the car. It should be an appearance in court and penalty points for such a crime. As should all motoring crimes be a court appearance not just a fixed penalty, except perhaps overstaying a place where you are permitted to park but with a time limit.

Allfur · 25/10/2024 16:47

I'd have a separate category of car licence for larger and high performance vehicles, and you take your test in one. Or get a smaller car, which many would choose instead.

Nope, this person shouldn't be parking over areas they shouldn't either. Same rules for everyone.

Working mums are no more important than anyone else.

Then she should get there early to get the best parking spot. Don’t most schools offer a pre 8.30am childcare club?

Healingsfall · 25/10/2024 17:08

It's odd when these mums, and let's face it it's always women, need to park directly in front of the school because they couldn't possibly walk 5 minutes, rush their dc into the school, then spend 20 minutes talking to other parents. If someone had to rush off to work you could at least understand why they couldn't park further away and walk, but it's always those who aren't rushing off to work after the drop off who tend to park on yellow lines/obstruct driveways at school run time.
