Don't argue with the traffic warden on your school run

It made me laugh yesterday as 3 of the Mums driving stupidly big cars received parking tickets outside the school dates. They work on the safety lines that are outside schools and they only live a 7 minute walk from school and also don't work (I know of them). They came out and tried to argue their way out of the tickets saying "what? A parking ticket for dropping my kid off at school?"

I think it serves them right. I've parked on a single yellow near the school in a mega rush so I'm no angel but if you do that you accept that there is a chance you will get a ticket and can't complain if you get one can you!!?

Just made me laugh it was the 4x4 cars from the professional yummy mummies who all got them and then wanted to argue, talk about entitlement! Plus if you have a big car then surely a parking ticket is affordable?! That's part of the illusion of wealth is that you don't care!

Needless to say the areas are clear today so they've learned their lesson, for now at least! X

The answer is always a woman who is prettier than me, richer than me, seems to have an easier life and always be enjoying herself.
Its rooter in misogyny.
Mother’s should not be that happy.
Mother’s should not have it that easy.
Mother’s shouldn’t have that much help.
Mother’s shouldn’t have time to go to the gym.

Being happy should not be at other peoples expense

Obviously.
I don’t buy into the yummy mummy nonsense if that wasn’t clear.

I simply think money is worth more when you earn it yourself.

And that’s fine…for you. Not everyone holds that belief and not everyone needs to express shame and sorrow because they don’t work (which I think is what you expect?)

HappyTwo · 25/10/2024 14:15

Has it occurred to you, you are spending a lot of time time analysing the lives of strangers?

"Yummy mummys" are people who park badly outside of school??

And go out for lunch.
don’t forget the lunch!

I also hate it when people shout at parking wardens, one actually let me off a ticket once as i got back to my car, realised i hadnt checked if the road was permit only (it was) and told him it was my own fault as i forgot to check. I definitely think the universe will send me a big ticket soon!

There's two mums at our school who used to always park on double yellows right by the gate. They finally got ticketed but now one of the mums parks further up the road on a corner where the traffic warden doesn't go, on double yellows still!! She also parks so close to other cars and I've seen parents have their cars blocked in because of her.

Having had a mummy take off my car door as she sped past as my son was getting out on the school drive, and three weeks later write off another mums car. I'm a bit leery of some parents.

You know there are benefits to having an expensive luxury car for the owner, they don’t just get them for a “status symbol for the insecure.” They are a nice environment to be in, good to drive, safe for the passengers, nice for the owner to look at etc, etc.

Buying a car like this is not for the vast majority of people because they are “insecure” and want other people to be impressed - it’s for their own enjoyment.

Having a shit car doesn’t make you a better person.

Driving a ludicrously oversized car in an urban environment because you don't give a toss about everyone else's safety and convenience as long as you're cosy inside your tank does make you a worse person though.

And that is true however much the car cost.

justasking111 · 25/10/2024 14:37

Well we don't know if these big cars aren't in the country every weekend, used for hunting, shooting fishing, which mummy is stuck with while daddy drives his sporty number all week. It certainly happens around here.

johnson39 · 25/10/2024 14:42

I think there's a current sigma attached to the 4 x 4 drivers these days.... social media has them as either drug dealers gf / wife's or chavs and tbf most people who drive them drive down the middle of the road at you and probably need to take another test to drive and park these cars, but anyone who parks illegally regardless of if they can read or not , knows the road signs and not to park there so deserve a ticket.

Yep. We also don’t know if it’s daddy not mummy choosing the car and they share it - but hey let’s not get in the way of giving women a good sexist kick ey

You’re right, it is satisfying to see anyone who is parked like an idiot getting a ticket. However, I could live without the “yummy mummy” hate.

No! Crush them like bugs. Bugs with little stripy Joules carapaces

Most, maybe, but not all. Until you know someone’s individual circumstances you can’t really judge.

I drive a big SUV, I do use it for shopping and going to the gym etc. However, my husband has been using it in the middle of a field for the last couple of days.

Not everybody can afford to buy several separate vehicles to suit specific purposes, so one car that can do everything has to suffice.

Edited

I would wager 95% of SUVs have never been near a field.

I look down on the likes of criminals, child abusers etc - it baffles me that people look down on some women for <checks notes> going for lunch?

Look down on them for driving cars that are too big and parking like assholes when they could just walk. Like the OP is saying.

I need a new car and am getting lectured on what to get, small economical, boring, while he's driving around in his new fancy car which I'm not on the insurance for because it's too precious. Despite the fact that I have decades of no claims and he's had two prangs in the same year. 🤬🤬

Exactly. And also true regardless of whether you meet the yummy mummy stereotype or not.
