Who has time for seasonal bedsheets

Absolutely not here to cause offence butttttt

Shops are filled with seasonal decor - I understand maybe a Christmas cushion or even a Halloween door mat but who has the time for seasonal bedsheets? Do you use them all year round? Who looks at your bed? I've seen Halloween ones, Xmas, even Easter. I just don't get it!

I absolutely adore Halloween so always have decorations out and buy Halloween bedding. But I use the bedding all year and don't have many neutral bedding sets. They are for me and nobody ever sees my bedroom.

I don't really bother with Christmas, didn't put out any decorations out last year and probably won't this year either. Whereas I get genuine joy from decorating and looking at my Halloween decorations and bedding, just love the colours and designs.

Anyone acting like they don't have time for such trivial things while posting on MN, really needs to take a good long look at themselves in the mirror.

I have time. I have storage. My sheets are all organized beautifully. I have one bin for Easter decor, one for Halloween, and Three for Christmas.

I throw a huge Christmas party each year for the neighbourhood. I love all of it. I love the sparkles, the white, the faux fur.

I'm not above decorating for fun. I love to decorate. It's one of my favourite things to do.

It keeps me busy enough I don't dwell on how others decorate or don't decorate their homes. I'm too busy changing bedding.

It’s fine if you like it but it It literally takes 2 mins to post on Mumsnet!

Selecting Christmas bedding, washing it, making up beds in it, then doing that process in reverse and storing it in named bins takes a lot longer.

Personally I don’t like it because I think it’s a creeping trend to try to get us to buy more stuff. The force behind it all is largely commercial, and beyond making an autumn arrangement of stems from the garden, and growing a couple of pumpkins, I don’t like the feeling of being subtlety pressured in to things.

TheyAllFloatDownHere · 22/10/2024 06:34

I have Christmas bedding and a mix of other bedding - I do tend to pick the more autumnal colours in autumn etc.

AChickenPooAndABiscuit · 22/10/2024 06:49

Well we have brushec cotton winter bedding - stags in snow, that sort of thing - rather than Christmas bedding. And it's sooooo soft and lovely to sleep in, and heavier than regular bedding. So we use those during the winter. Will probably put them on from the beginning of December (and yes we do have more than one set to swap when washing one! lol) Makes a nice change.

Other than buying it, washing bedding is a weekly thing any ways? Why do you think it's extra work?

Sure it's takes two minutes to post, and a few to read things, and then a few more to keep updated. Let's not pretend any one here doesn't have time to change sheets.

Firestace · 22/10/2024 06:51

We have Christmas bedding, it lives in the airing cupboard until December. I don't get why people would buy new seasonabl bedding every year, but we've had ours for years and as it's only used for a month or so a year it's still in good condition.

Josette77 · 22/10/2024 06:51

bettysyourauntie · 22/10/2024 06:26

I can't think of anything worse than sleeping on Halloween bedding. The whole commercial paraphernalia around this strange day is tasteless and pointless

You can't think of anything worse than sleeping on Halloween bedding?

That's amazing. I'm actually jealous.

Isntshelovely2024 · 22/10/2024 06:54

TY78910 · 21/10/2024 23:18

No of course it doesn't take longer to put on patterned sheets, and 100% whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. I just always find myself walking past them in the shops thinking you use them for a month or so and then what? And when it's time to wash do you then break the theme or you have multiple? So many questions 🤣

Well I tend to wash dry and put back on in a day

GalaticalFarce · 22/10/2024 07:28

Halloween bedding sounds a bit nuts but hey ho

RamblasTapas · 22/10/2024 07:54

Life is too short to faff with seasonal bedding!

When I see all of the seasonal stuff I gasp in horror at the thought of storing it!

I have a couple of Christmas cushions and mugs that live with the decorations in the loft. That's enough for me.

Yellow2024 · 22/10/2024 08:02

I have to say I was always with your way of thinking however a few years ago - for reasons I can't remember - I did buy some for my kids and on the 1st of Dec I now change them over and my kids absolutely love it. Probably because generally I don't really like christmas.

I wouldn't personally have them as an adult though but what ever floats your boat.

MissyPants · 22/10/2024 08:05

It's not about having the time for me, it's having the space & effort.
Do I have the storage space? No
Can I be arsed with doing it? No!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/10/2024 08:10

I don't see why it would require more time, but I don't do it. I admit I quite like the idea of a bit of non-tat seasonal decorating, but I find the idea of seasonal bedding a bit naff, like matching seasonal pyjamas etc.

Avanet · 22/10/2024 08:14

The seasons are for outside. I feel no desire to bring them indoors. Especially not in the form of scratchy garish swathes of badly printed and poorly sewn cheap disposable polycotton shite.

As for Halloween, if I see one more fuck ugly orange blob of putresence pumpkin, I am going to scream. I like gothic themes but despise tacky Halloween stuff.

Yes, I'm a miserable old sod.
I'm not trying to stop anyone else, although I do wonder how much of this stuff goes straight from shop shelf to landfill.

I'm not against seasonal colours or fabrics. I am against over consumption involving ugly trinkets. Aww, it's cute, is no justification.

MrsBobtonTrent · 22/10/2024 08:14

From a puritanical/no waste perspective probably better to have Christmas bedding than loads of plastic tat to decorate. And if it’s only used a few weeks a year it will last years. I’m not sure it would increase the amount of bedding you buy over a lifetime as the other bedding will last a bit longer.

I don’t do it myself, but can’t get worked up about themed bedding - plenty of other pointless plastic decorating tat to dislike.

Ruthietuthie · 22/10/2024 08:16

@AutumnLeaves24, I am in the US, so it might be tricky to get, but it is from an online shop called "The Vermont Country Store." The quality is absolutely lovely. I also LOVE Peanuts.

Funkyslippers · 22/10/2024 08:18

TY78910 · 21/10/2024 23:29

Okay so the subtle patterns and plain ish colours I get - it's the GIANT merry Christmas Santa on a candy cane I question 😂

Not everything about Christmas has to be tasteful. As you said, the person seeing it most of the time will be the person whose bed it is

StrongerFitter · 22/10/2024 08:18

No way! Christmas bedding still on the bed in Feb would be a good indicator to everyone we hadn’t got around to changing our sheets for a few weeks… prefer all year around bedding so no one can tell!

Notmanyleftnow · 22/10/2024 08:26

aSpanielintheworks · 22/10/2024 05:48

I often wonder when I look round all these gorgeous home goodies who has time or makes the effort to change accessories over, once my room is done, its done. I don't add any more bits to it or change my colourscheme.
Having said that though, I do have a Christmas bedding set with stags and snowy woodland on my bed right now, but only because it's brushed cotton and cosy!

Same bedding on now for same reason!

tuberole · 22/10/2024 08:30

Me Grin what effort do you think it takes exactly...I assume you change your bedsheets at least once every 3 months....

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 22/10/2024 08:30

I have Christmas specific bedding this year! We only use one lot of bedding per bed, it's washed and dried on the same day so storage isn't an issue at all. I also have Christmas specific cutlery that is only used in December. Again, wrapped in a bundle with cling film, takes no storage at all. I have Christmas cushions, I just keep them on the cushion and put the neutral cover over it. Christmas dishes sit under the usual ones but not used year round generally..

It's easy to do and store seasonal decor if your house isn't a clutter fest (as mine is atm!) and you don't have three generations worth of bedding and crockery taking up cupboard space. It might not be everyone cup of tea but, life would be boring if the home never changed. I look forward to cosying it up in Autumn/Winter and freshening it up in Spring ready for Summer.
I'm not spending a fortune, just switching fluffy blankets to cooler ones, swapping cushion covers over, just bringing seasonal to the front. Makes me happy, we have space and can afford it, why the heck not 😁

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 22/10/2024 08:32

Not for decor, but I have normal cotton in summer and brushed cotton in winter?

HebburnPokemon · 22/10/2024 08:35

HermoniePotter · 21/10/2024 23:12

I have spring, summer, autumn and Christmas bedding and decor. It’s my choice and it’s not harming anyone. I’m not sure what the issue is tbh.

Edited to add, do what makes you happy, you only live once.

Edited

Same. I bloody love it :D I've got Valentines, Easter, Autumn, Halloween, Xmas, and Winter. All brushed cotton 😍It's a joy to bring them out each year.
