Who has time for seasonal bedsheets

Absolutely not here to cause offence butttttt

Shops are filled with seasonal decor - I understand maybe a Christmas cushion or even a Halloween door mat but who has the time for seasonal bedsheets? Do you use them all year round? Who looks at your bed? I've seen Halloween ones, Xmas, even Easter. I just don't get it!

I saw a Halloween one in home bargains I think it was! I was thinking would you honestly use it for a month or two and then store a used loo brush in the loft or somewhere for the next ten months?

@Frozensnow

i don't use a loo brush, but most of the novelty ones just take a standard brush, so you just swap the novelty bit over (wash/bleach/store until next year)

I don't mind the patterned seasonal stuff. But what I can't cope with is that teddy bear fleece bedding that comes out every winter. I have a friend who...kindly...puts that on her guest bed every year. Fitted sheet, duvet cover, pillowcase. I sweat my tits off in it. It's too much.

@HollyKnight

At home I love mine. Before I bought it I thought it would feel manky & too hot, but it's lovely, no cold bed to get into & snuggly. At the moment I just have the duvet cover on empty. The brushed cotton duvet cover was too hot for me last night. I over heat even with the bedroom windows open!

it's easy to wash & dry. Mine is only a Tesco one. Maybe a 'better quality' one would be too hot, but this isn't.

& I use cotton pillow cases, can't get on with the Teddy ones.

I’m a Christmas person, if I had the storage I’d get a nice set and pull them out every year. My son is a baby goth. If I got him halloween sheets he’d use them year round like his skeleton pyjamas. I have Christmas leggings and pyjamas.

I think the ' the GIANT merry Christmas Santa on a candy cane ' probably brightens up the grey bedroom with the grey carpet...

I LOVE Christmas bed linens. I have lovely soft flannel sheets with an adorable Peanuts pattern (Snoopy and friends playing in the snow). It makes me so happy to put it on my little boy's bed and marks the beginning of the winter season for me. He loves it. I love it. I want some for my own bed, to be frank.

@Ruthietuthie

can you remember where you bought it from?

snoopy is my hero & id love some bedding but a bit wary of buying online (I like to feel the material first really).

FruityShampoo · 22/10/2024 01:49

I don’t have Christmas patterns, more like brushed cotton, warmer colours and a fake fur throw for winter over the duvet. I don’t have the storage space for a December only duvet set. I do quite like some of the designs and am happy other people find some joy in buying them. Winter can be dreary enough, we have to have things that make us smile.

I have Christmas bedding. It’s fabulous. I have plenty of storage space and it makes me happy. I also have winter bedding. I want something cosy by November and the linen bedding goes away until the spring.

BibbityBobbityToo · 21/10/2024 23:32

Better things to spend my money on than seasonal stuff.

I would rather spend £100 on quality bedding to use all year than £15 on polyester crap and get one week of use out of it.

Who mentioned polyester? Also, where do you get quality bedding for £100?

CheekyHobson · 22/10/2024 02:05

I have seasonal bedding: cream sheets and duvet cover in summer, rust-coloured in autumn and pine green in winter. Yet to add a spring set.

I have the storage and it makes me feel happy to do it. Surely it’s no bother to anyone else.

I don't understand the 'time' thing. Bedding is changed, which takes the same time, no matter what is on it. You're on mumsnet, so hardly struggling time anyway.

We have a few sets of autumn bedding and a few sets of Xmas bedding. Why does it matter who looks at it? We don't have stuff for other people, we have it for us and family/friends that stay with us. It's sad if you only have stuff if others get to see it.

LazyOnSunday · 22/10/2024 02:24

struggling for time

Glitterblue · 22/10/2024 02:27

I have Christmas bedding for DD, and winter brushed cotton for us which we used fr around November until March - it has wintry but not specifically Christmas patterns.

Each to their own. I don’t think time comes into it, you’re just picking up a bedding set from the cupboard and putting it on the bed, as you would with any other pattern of bedding. I love having seasonal decor in the house, it makes me happy. I never want to not have the time to do the little things that bring me happiness.

Brushed cotton for me now until spring , so I guess that's seasonal

I threw mine out as it created a snowstorm of fluff. I was so annoyed.

Preppingpenguin · 22/10/2024 02:42

I have 3 different Autumn/Halloween sets 🤣 don't even get me started on Christmas

TY78910 · 22/10/2024 03:05

@LazyOnSunday as I've already clarified:

  • who has time was used more as a figure of speech, not physical time - I am very much aware everybody that changing a patterned bedsheet vs a plain takes the same amount of time. I'm questioning a concept in an 'ain't nobody got time for that' way
  • I am also referring to bold massive Santa / Vampire / very specific holiday bedsheets (ones that literally say happy Halloween or merry Xmas) as opposed to an 'autumnal colour' or tartan or colour scheme change
  • kids are also an exception to this AIBU, my DD has a Barbie bedsheet which wouldn't be my choice personally but character things make kids happy

And yep I have loads of time, like currently 3:04am whilst I'm trying to stay sane burping an unburpable baby

It’s the storage surely?

What a waste of time.

This!

Overtheatlantic · 22/10/2024 03:34

I’ve just bought some raspberry coloured gingham ones for autumn and Christmas season. I figure they will work longer?

BeatsAntique · 22/10/2024 03:49

I’m in the US and have embraced the seasonal decor thing since I’ve been here. I change my decor for autumn, then Christmas/winter, then spring and summer have the same. I get bored of things really easily so I love having the seasonal change.

LazyOnSunday · 22/10/2024 04:06

I don't understand this at all.

Its so weird to give a shit what bedding others use.

People like different stuff, that's all there is to it.

Josette77 · 22/10/2024 04:52

Anyone acting like they don't have time for such trivial things while posting on MN, really needs to take a good long look at themselves in the mirror.

I have time. I have storage. My sheets are all organized beautifully. I have one bin for Easter decor, one for Halloween, and Three for Christmas.

I throw a huge Christmas party each year for the neighbourhood. I love all of it. I love the sparkles, the white, the faux fur.

I'm not above decorating for fun. I love to decorate. It's one of my favourite things to do.

It keeps me busy enough I don't dwell on how others decorate or don't decorate their homes. I'm too busy changing bedding.

Christmas bedding - December Only

This

aSpanielintheworks · 22/10/2024 05:48

I often wonder when I look round all these gorgeous home goodies who has time or makes the effort to change accessories over, once my room is done, its done. I don't add any more bits to it or change my colourscheme.
Having said that though, I do have a Christmas bedding set with stags and snowy woodland on my bed right now, but only because it's brushed cotton and cosy!

bettysyourauntie · 22/10/2024 06:26

I can't think of anything worse than sleeping on Halloween bedding. The whole commercial paraphernalia around this strange day is tasteless and pointless
