Who has time for seasonal bedsheets

Absolutely not here to cause offence butttttt

Shops are filled with seasonal decor - I understand maybe a Christmas cushion or even a Halloween door mat but who has the time for seasonal bedsheets? Do you use them all year round? Who looks at your bed? I've seen Halloween ones, Xmas, even Easter. I just don't get it!

I have brushed cotton sheets for the colder months , linen sheets for July / August when it’s boiling and regular 100% cotton for the rest of the year . 2 sets of each per bed , except the linen have one per bed , as it dries so quickly when it’s hot , kept in ottoman beds under each mattress
one set of brushed cotton are more Xmas than the other , so I have semi Christmas bedding . No halloween or thanksgiving or Easter or valentines themed sheets either

ChristmasFluff · 23/10/2024 19:55

I have Christmas bedding. I first got it when son was at primary school, and have used it every year since as part of the exciting lead up to Christmas. I would put it on the day he broke up from school for the Christmas holidays and didn't bother to change it until January 2nd.

I now put it on around the end of November, and although I also use other bedding during December, I always make sure the Christmas bedding is on for Christmas/ New Year week - or whenever son is home.

Son is in his 20s now, so it's not really been 'wasteful'. And I don't care if it's 'tacky' - it's also fun!

Different strokes for different folkes. I love seasonal decor, personally I'd rather spend £15 on some seasonal bedding than getting a takeaway for example

beautifuldaytosavelives · 23/10/2024 19:59

Good grief, you’re not actually using duvets are you? Horse hair blankets and a plain sheet only on MN!

We have 2 Christmas bedding sets for one bed! What an absolute wastrel. And DD has a Halloween set - with extra Halloween blanket- and a Christmas set, again with an extra blanket.

We don’t have an autumn wreath though and I’ve got some envy for the people over the road’s one.

i shall forge myself some chains or something in punishment for my frivolity.

Not so much the time as the storage. Where does one put multiple sets of bed linen? We have a hot cupboard but it’s full of everyday towels and linen.

Someone could ask why you've got such a full cupboard?

We've got two king-size bed sets and 1 king-size Christmas bed set.

DS had the same but double. Bed sets are folded to fit in their pillowcase along with the sheet and other pillowcases. Three stacked up on each other takes up the space of 1 pillow which go in a zip bag, under our ottoman bed. DS sets GP in the same place.

Closetheblinds · 23/10/2024 20:37

Anyone who changes their bed would have the time 😆

IcedPurple · 23/10/2024 20:54

Putting on a 'seasonal' duvet doesn't take more time than putting on an 'ordinary' one, so YABU.

I have limited storage space so don't have seasonal bed linen. But if I had, I would buy them and am still tempted by them every year.

I have spring, summer, autumn and Christmas bedding and decor. It’s my choice and it’s not harming anyone. I’m not sure what the issue is tbh.

Edited to add, do what makes you happy, you only live once.

Edited

You are completely right. I couldn’t be arsed but if it brings you joy you should go for if, there is too little in the world right now and you should take it wherever you can. My question though is where in earth do you store it all?!?

Bernardo1 · 23/10/2024 21:35

Whole idea is absurd.

Are we also supposed to have Christmas towels, floor mats even lingerie and sleep wear?
Christmas sweaters are also ghastly, other than for children. And this is what it is really all about. If it makes the youngsters happy and excited, it's clearly worthwhile.

I do like the new pyjamas with zebras on though.

Well it’s a moderate sized cupboard with a tank and two shelves. A spare set each for two single beds and a double plus pillow cases and kitchen towels on one shelf, second shelf is spare sets of towels. We don’t and can’t have a drier so we need spare sets. Cupboard is full.

In my case, no, yes, no and yes.

ThePoshUns · 23/10/2024 22:46

Just realising that adults have Christmas bedding too? Wow I thought it was just for children.

How weird do you sound? You're not 'supposed' to do anything. It's not mandatory. Does saying stuff like this make you feel superior or something?

We have a large house with 2 spare bedrooms, one which is used for storage.

TY78910 · 22/10/2024 21:17

@Josette77 I think the difference to me (and again everyone's priorities are different) is that I spend maybe a couple of hours in my bedroom awake so the effort of storing holiday specific bedding that is for my eyes only doesn't appeal to me. Appreciate though some people here have expressed they love it so that's great

I decorate the outside of my house not just for myself but there's a bigger sense of community (live on a development) where people do this to bring joy to others

You won't necessarily see a lot of decor inside my house though but that's because I can't cope with how my toddler just turns it in to clutter as she thinks everything is a toy

For lots of us, it's not an 'effort' to store bedding. We have room, so we just store it. Surely that's not hard to grasp.

DinosaurMunch · 24/10/2024 00:00

TY78910 · 21/10/2024 23:18

No of course it doesn't take longer to put on patterned sheets, and 100% whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. I just always find myself walking past them in the shops thinking you use them for a month or so and then what? And when it's time to wash do you then break the theme or you have multiple? So many questions 🤣

Obviously you put them on the bed at the start of advent and take off on 12th night. Unfortunately if you forget, you have to sleep in the same sheets until Easter or it's bad luck!

DinosaurMunch · 24/10/2024 00:06

Josette77 · 22/10/2024 06:49

Other than buying it, washing bedding is a weekly thing any ways? Why do you think it's extra work?

Sure it's takes two minutes to post, and a few to read things, and then a few more to keep updated. Let's not pretend any one here doesn't have time to change sheets.

Weekly? 6 monthly here.

SophiaSW1 · 24/10/2024 00:16

Well my children look at them on their own beds each December and absolutely love them. It's not for show it's for them.

Yes. Let the plebs have their festive duvets, and their cake.

I see someone mentioned Christmas towels, but no one mentioned the Christmas oven gloves and t towels, or is that just something everyone has...

Eh, let 'em whinge. They'd be reeling if they saw the lingerie set I've got for Christmas Eve. By the moaning on this thread and others, I dare say a few people would do well for a good bonking in red and white knickers. 🤷‍♀️🎄
