Who has time for seasonal bedsheets

Absolutely not here to cause offence butttttt

Shops are filled with seasonal decor - I understand maybe a Christmas cushion or even a Halloween door mat but who has the time for seasonal bedsheets? Do you use them all year round? Who looks at your bed? I've seen Halloween ones, Xmas, even Easter. I just don't get it!

I don't mind the patterned seasonal stuff. But what I can't cope with is that teddy bear fleece bedding that comes out every winter. I have a friend who...kindly...puts that on her guest bed every year. Fitted sheet, duvet cover, pillowcase. I sweat my tits off in it. It's too much.

Haha, I always think this! Just looking at it brings me out in a hot flush. 😂

I saw a Halloween one in home bargains I think it was! I was thinking would you honestly use it for a month or two and then store a used loo brush in the loft or somewhere for the next ten months?

I just don't understand the concept of a themed loo brush. I mean, who cares?

Moveoverdarlin · 22/10/2024 00:02

Me I do. Only the children though. When you say time, it takes no longer to put Christmas bedding on than it does plain white. I wash it and then put it straight back on. Put in on so they wake up on 1st Dec with the new bedding and advent calendars. Put it away when I take the decorations down.

It's as bad as you think! Every time I stay over I wake up wondering if perimenopause kicked in overnight.

I don't have any seasonal bed sheets. I couldn't be arsed with that.

We just have our regular ones all year round in this house. 🙄

As a child in an old house before central heating was installed, bedrooms were unheated unless one was ill.

Flanellette sheets were a ''thing'' in stripes and colours.

They were ''warm'' to touch, and didn't strike cold, like cotton {or worse, Linen can.

I yearned for lovely smooth white cotton ones, which I now have.

That sounds lovely!
Mum always bought us advent calendars with glitter on- I loved them!

The proper oldskool ones, not the ones with sweets in.

Those who are worried about the cost and the “ waste “ - our sets cost about £15- £20 each , 3 years ago. They will do at least one more winter. So that’s £5 per child , per year. On the scale of “ money I’ve spent on my children “ over the last two decades, thats pretty low down the list.

When the bedding is washed out, it will go to the dog rescue place where it’s reused. Christmas bed linen doenst seem to wear out any faster than other designs ( as long as you don’t buy brushed cotton).

QuietInTheLibrary · 22/10/2024 00:11

Just normal bedding all year round except one set (cover and two pillowcases) for Christmas, which I put on closer to the date. We have some themed cushions and throws too as home decor items (not counting decorations).

I don’t mind a bit of festivity around this time. It brightens up the house.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 00:16

Silvertulips · 21/10/2024 23:11

It’s the storage surely?

What a waste of time.

@Silvertulips

how is it a waste of time?? In what way does the Christmas print on a duvet cover take time???

QuietInTheLibrary · 22/10/2024 00:19

I forgot to add to my post, since DD is a toddler and still sleeps in a cot, she has good quality sheets so won’t update her bedding yet but plan to in the coming years. She laughs when she sees the Christmas bedding on her parent’s bed.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/10/2024 00:25

We have cotton bedding Easter to tattie holidays (Scotland), then brushed cotton from tattie holidays to Easter. One of the brushed cotton sets is white with red and mustard moose on it, so it’s quite festive, but is used in regular rotation - the others are Orla Kiely. We tend to retire a set from each season to the spare bed and buy a new one.

I spend far too much time on TikTok and see wild amounts of “autumn decor” and the like - I think the seasonal bedding thing is a red herring here. We usually have a bowl of lemons on the kitchen table, and now it’s munchkin pumpkins, but that’s as seasonal decor as it gets here.

GalaticalFarce · 22/10/2024 00:35

I would like seasonal bedding! Not Xmas but more autumn/winter colours and style.
But I can't be arsed to choose any.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 00:53

TY78910 · 21/10/2024 23:18

No of course it doesn't take longer to put on patterned sheets, and 100% whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. I just always find myself walking past them in the shops thinking you use them for a month or so and then what? And when it's time to wash do you then break the theme or you have multiple? So many questions 🤣

But how is it 'a waste of time'??

Autumn is 3 months, not 1 month. Which is interspersed with the Halloween one.

Christmas ones on approx 2/3 months.

Might see if I can get an Easter one this year, but currently mainly white for the spring & summer months.

'Break the Theme' well, I have more than one Christmas one so just alternate, The Autumn one gets alternated with the Halloween one, or the grey/white stars brushed cotton one but may buy another Autumn one if I can settle on one.

I have ones I prefer, but when that's in the wash the alternative one might get a really short shift & get changed out quickly 😂😂

Currently have the grey Teddy set on! I thought they feel weird/manky & be a PITA to get dry, but it feels lovely & they line dry super fast!!

My boat is floated!! 😂😂

FartingAgainstThunder · 22/10/2024 00:56

Aww I love our Christmas bedding, Goes on December 1st and goes away with the Christmas decorations (obviously gets washed a few times in between)

It's a nice way to decorate the bedrooms for Christmas without having to faff about with actual decorations.

I don't do autumnal themed bedding as such but I do put heavier curtains up and add cosy throws and blankets to the bed.

Ruthietuthie · 22/10/2024 00:58

I LOVE Christmas bed linens. I have lovely soft flannel sheets with an adorable Peanuts pattern (Snoopy and friends playing in the snow). It makes me so happy to put it on my little boy's bed and marks the beginning of the winter season for me. He loves it. I love it. I want some for my own bed, to be frank.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 01:02

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 21/10/2024 23:29

@TY78910 ye gods!! I barely have time for a christmas tree!!!

So don't you change your bedding over autumn/winter?

frenchfancy81 · 22/10/2024 01:04

We've got 3 Christmas superking bedsets and one of them goes on on Dec 1st and then we use them until 12th Night! Just a little bit of cheer that makes me happy...

Barney16 · 22/10/2024 01:06

Not Christmas but "seasonal" teddy bedding from Dunelm. I seriously love it. It's so cosy and warm. Mind you given the rubbish weather this last year there was a window if about six weeks when I swopped it out for cotton.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 01:10

XenoBitch · 21/10/2024 23:37

It is not just bedsheets, it is cushions, crockery, door mats etc. Where does all this stuff go during the rest of the year?
I went to The Range today, and they had a Christmas loo brush and holder. Why?

@XenoBitch

In a plastic box in the loft marked 'Autumn' 'Halloween' 'Easter' or the many boxes/bags 'Christmas'

I reuse the stuff each year & love getting favourites out!

GiddyRobin · 22/10/2024 01:13

I love seasonal bedding. I don't usually buy new ones, but I did get a nice set a while ago of a foresty scene with animals and botanicals.

Takes no more time than any other weekly bed change! We've got a whole airing cupboard full and I swap them out with the seasons. It's just nice. Same way I like putting up a tree. Or an autumn wreath. Or pumpkins. Or flowers!

None are garish, but more power to anyone who likes that. It's harming no one to make your bedroom look nice. The seasonal hate threads with faux bafflement are so dull - and I don't mean you, OP, as you've clarified now, so I'm not having a pop. It's just like some people have got zero joy in life and decide to come and whinge about everyone who does sometimes.

AutumnLeaves24 · 22/10/2024 01:16

ManhattanPopcorn · 21/10/2024 23:50

It's not the time, for me it's the storage and the over consumption. Fair enough if you you use them year round but special bedding only used for Halloween etc seems so excessive.

@ManhattanPopcorn

Excessive?? Excessive what?? Enjoyment? Pleasure? Happiness?

How dreadful.

OpalTree · 22/10/2024 01:16

I don't do it but see no harm in it or why it would take up extra time. You'd just put it in the cupboard til next year.

Frozensun · 22/10/2024 01:18

If it brings people pleasure, why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ If it’s not to my taste, I just keep going. What law says you can only put them out in the run up to Christmas or whatever event? I watch the Grinch whenever I feel like it.

OpalTree · 22/10/2024 01:18

I don't understand the point about storage. Some people have enough cupboard space to store seasonal bedding. Are some people under the impression everyone has the same amount of storage space or something?

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 22/10/2024 01:21

If they get used all year round. Or year after year at the appropriate time - fair enough each to their own.
If they get thrown away after just one season of use then that is incredibly wasteful. Ditto people who buy new Christmas decorations every year/every other year.
