To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

Did they vote for Hillary Clinton?

Verses Harris who is by far worse.

Can you give us some evidence, please? As opposed to Trump’s many word salads?

Cheguevarahamster · 22/10/2024 07:56

RosaMoline · 22/10/2024 06:35

What the hell does a ‘bubbling’ fool mean? Do you mean ‘blabbering’ @Flowersjimmy
It’s also ‘versus’ not ‘verses’ FFS.
🙄

I actually quite like "bubbling" fool. It encapsulates him beautifully. Full of hot air and flatulence. A bubbling brook of bumbling bigotry.

ssd · 22/10/2024 07:58

What about a blubbering fool?

Except the poster was talking about Harris, not Trump!

Watching left wing YouTube channels like the Meidas Touch and David Pakman can reassure you that Trump is just too crazy/deluded/demented etc to win. It seems a no brainer. But step away from that bubble and it's very concerning. I don't begin to understand why so many Americans will vote for Trump, but they will.

The deep misogyny is really difficult to appreciate looking at it from a European perspective.

A lot of people are voting for him because he is all of those things.

He was all of those things last time and still got elected. The thing is, he is also a narcissistic old man with cognitive problems possibly worse than Biden. What can he realistically do? The only thing he could possibly do is threaten to pull the US out of NATO/Ukraine to appease Putin. But will he actually do it? He talks the talk but doesn't do anything at all, as demonstrated last time. He incited a riot but that was after he was voted out. The MAGA morons are just hillbilly idiots. I think saying if he's voted in Project 25 unlimited terms etc gives him far more power than he has, and is more likely to get him elected as its gives him a sympathy us/them 'look how everyone is against us' vibe. In any case, the US is a democracy of sorts. If they want to elected a dickhead as President (again) then that's what they will do. It's not our fight.

I’m guessing you have never watched Harris speak if you don’t think it’s clear why. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've watched her speak. She is articulate and compassionate.

I've also watched Trump speak. He is demented, stupid, spiteful, boastful and most of the time makes no sense at all.

Lyannaa · 22/10/2024 08:42

I agree. Even more so, lately as he is suffering cognitive decline of his own.

It's funny how the Trump supporters on here can hardly string two words together! His followers certainly aren't the brightest and the best.

chriscillizza.substack.com/p/why-do-people-vote-for-donald-trump

This article contains two emails from people about why people vote for Trump. It's very enlightening!

Dismissing all his supporters as racist, sexist idiots is very dangerous.

This is such an interesting read thanks for sharing.

i remember this was my take away from Hilary Clinton’s book “what happened” - the democrats have alienated and continue to ignore and dismiss the white working classes. Much like Brexit here

You are not unreasonable to have an opinion on the US election - you can agree or disagree with anyone you want.

Which of his policies do you disagree with?

You’re welcome.

I referred to Trump supporters in general, not you personally. Seeing as your Messiah just stands on a podium for hours spewing out childish insults that would disgrace a 5 year old, I would assume that this type of discourse is acceptable to his supporters.

If you can't take mocking and criticism, don't dish it out. Mind you, Trump is the most thin-skinned politician I've ever seen. If he gets asked a normal question that he can't answer, he just insults the interviewer and threatens to take their channel off air when his is president.

Oh, and as someone who supports Donald Trump after he mimicked and mocked the disabled reporter with cerebral palsy, which should have been the end of his career as a politician, how dare you expect posters to make allowances for a learning disability that we didn't even know you had.

I couldn’t care less if you respect me or not, why would I? Bizarre to even say such rubbish.

It’s actually funny how mad people get over this.

Oh well, it won’t be long and Trump will be president.

As opposed to a woman who got her initial position ( by her own admission) by sexual favours to her boss. Who has never been elected to any office ( withdrew from her primary when it was obvious that she was going to get the smallest share of the vote). Who didn’t visit the border when she was supposed to be in charge of it?

we won’t mention the earpiece, though.

Yeah but none of that is true is it. She was elected to the senate for a start. But lets not let reality get in the way.

Republicans are such bad losers.

Great comeback. You clearly have the debating skills of your idol, i.e. no debating skills at all.

You don't even see the hypocricy and irony of getting upset when people point out your spelling and grammatical errors when they don't know about your dyslexia while supporting a man who cruelly mocks and mimics disabled people.

That’s because she probably isn’t. But this is the internet where you can be whatever you want.

And now I’m off to add some herbs to my Maltese casserole ;)

Moonmelodies · 22/10/2024 10:25

Many people in America will be 'voting Republican', rather than explicitly 'voting for Trump', as they are sick of the high cost of living and soaring crime rates, and what they consider to be excessive government largesse.

Moonmelodies · 22/10/2024 10:35

Also, many American voters will be looking at what Democrat and Republican policies have delivered at state and city level - taxes, unemployment, investment etc.
The election isn't just about which candidate is the least crazy.
