To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

Yep exactly this, the bar is so drastically diff for each candidate. For Harris the bar is what the bar should be for a politician, for Trump the bar is don't be an absolute dipshit and he usually fails that miserably. It's infuriating. I sincerely hope Trump doesn't win though, then we are all well and truly fucked.

Yes, and as someone I was listening to the other day said, Harris is good at knowing what she doesn't know. So she'll surround herself with smart, competent, experts. Trump is going to surround himself by, well, the people who spoke at the Nazi rally last night.

She thinks women can have a penis. Thats why 50% of Americans won't vote for her

You're spending too much time on Mumsnet and on certain Twitter spaces if you believe that. It literally doesn't make the top ten list of voter concerns. Even in the UK under 2% of people said it was going to affect their vote.

Adding: I'm not saying it's not legitimate if you want to base your vote on that. I'm just saying you're vastly overrating how important it is to the average voter. Although the right is trying very hard to weaponise it, I'll give you that.

Yep, and we saw exactly that during his last administration. The people he put in leadership positions were shockingly inept and clueless and even then, notice how nobody from his previous administration is up there on stage with him? Anybody who has previously worked with him sees him for the incompetent dipshit that he is. Rex tillerson said it best, "Trump is a fucking moron."

BustingBaoBun · 28/10/2024 11:17

Oh yes, and add in his daughter and her husband who spectacularly managed to make $640 #M whilst working in the WH for daddy. Financial disclosures prove this... $82M in the first year of trump's presidency.

But it does make the top ten of people voting for Trump. Like it or not he's going to win because he stands for something - being Trump, whereas Kamala stands for one thing, not being Trump. Own goal.

This. People like Wallaw seems to think everyone who doesnt think like her are not 'the sharpest' or as smart as she is. Get a life, outside your bubble preferably. Shock horror that we dare to think for ourselves eh?

I know many ex Democrats who are sick of DEI overdrive. And I'm still laughing at the mentally ill Biden nuclear waste guru who stole a lady's suitcase, lied about it, and wore her gowns without feeling any guilt. Yes smart and honorable people indeed!

Wallow had said no such thing. She has engaged with people who disagree with her on this and other issues with quite a lot of respect and patience. A lot of what you say is "it seems..." and "I am sure I will be attacked" you can make up anything you want in your head. It doesn't make it true. But if you want to feel attacked then by all means live your emotional truth.

Not at all, I took issue with you calling Harris 'dumb'.

Disagree with her as much as you want, vote however you want, but it's absolutely clear that she is, in fact, very intelligent.

If the most you can come up with to justify your position is 'DEI overdrive' and a mentally ill Biden staffer who was immediately dismissed and has literally nothing to do with the current election, that that's on you.

For example, nothing could convince me to vote Trump/Vance, but I concede that Vance is very intelligent. I still find him, his actions and his positions repugnant. That's what informs my vote.

Even Trump supporters couldn't exactly tell you what he stands for.

I would not confidently predict Trump will win at this point.

why are trans people so threatening? Does someone else's gender really affect people so much? It's like the people who are homophobic, the only reason to care about what other people do in the bedroom is bc people aren't secure with their own sexuality. It's more of a them problem really.

Nobody can confidently predict trump will win, it's too close. Every poll has said the same.

And trump stands for one thing, furthering his own causes. He doesn't care about anything but himself which was incredibly evident last time he was in office and the policies he has talked about are incredibly harmful, especially since he wants to change things he knows nothing about (tarriffs). He's a complete moron when it comes to economics and he's the kind of person who surrounds himself with incompetent yes men/women bc he finds intelligence threatening.

I'm a US voter in the UK and those concerns are very valid.

and where do interfering in a fair and legal election, inciting an insurrection, being a bully, obstructing investigations, abusing power, withholding aid despite bipartisan congress support, firing whistleblowers and profiting off the presidency fall on that scale? Trump is the most corrupt man to ever hold office in the US and that's saying a lot.

This is an article by Stephen Miller's uncle (his mother's brother) about the family's immigration history and how, if there were immigration policies that Trump and Miller want to implement in place at that time, his family would have had to stay in Antopol and most likely would have been murdered by the Nazis along with all but seven of the 2,000 Jews who remained in Antopol.

I'm American, so it's possible I know more Americans than you, likely, in fact. And I don't know one single one who isn't sickened by the thought of a second Trump term. It's pretty much the only subject of discussion at the moment.

I think Harris will almost certainly win the popular vote (as did Hillary) but the electoral college vote is very worrying.

I'm also American and this is my experience as well; the vast majority of people I know (including lifelong Republicans) are disgusted by Trump and are vocal about voting for Harris. I agree with you about the very real concern regarding the electoral college. I feel it too.

I think on Mumsnet, it sometimes get lost how large our country is and how different regions are like separate countries with completely different cultures. Which is fair, as Mumsnet isn't an American site. But it's worth noting!

yep, I was specifically talking about corruption but there are so many more horrible things he's done. He's just a shitty excuse for a human being. I suppose people don't really care if politicians are good people but he's also incredibly stupid, I just don't see the appeal.
