To hope that Donald Trump doesn’t win the election

1000 replies

RosaMoline · 21/10/2024 16:05

….it’s getting closer.
I was hoping that Kamala would be a shoo-in for the presidency, but looking at the betting odds, I’m feeling quite pessimistic.
It’s incomprehensible to me that a convicted felon, racist, rapist, liar and misogynist who spurred on an insurrection - after everything that’s happened - is running for office again and may very well win.
It’s comforting to read though that fellow Brits DON’T support him.
Apart from Reform. Obviously.

Because not all women are pro abortion especially if they're Christian. I'm quite anti abortion myself.

Not all women are pro-abortion, but I don't know any women who are OK with sexual assault and rape.

People keeps saying he's a convicted sex offender. He's not -- it was a civil lawsuit, not a criminal one. Regarding an incident from almost 20 years ago. At least get your facts straight if you want to criticize people for voting for him.

Oh well, that makes it OK then, what a fine upstanding moral pillar of a man he is.

suburberphobe · 23/10/2024 19:02

As opposed to a woman who got her initial position ( by her own admission) by sexual favours to her boss.

You can't come out with this without proving it by posting a link.

They had a relationship is what I've read.

She's not perfect but then none of us are but she's a helluva lot better option than the Orange horror.

He has no filter on his mouth. Look at January 6th and what happened then.

Funny that, like with Brexshit, lots of posts on here were all in favour. Look where that got us.

I referred to him as an adjudicated rapist, not a convicted rapist. Does rape committed 20 years ago become more acceptable?

The fact is there are many women who are anti-abortion. I think people fail to realise just how religious many Americans are. I have dozens of American Facebook friends (because of a disease I had/joining a support group). They all talk about God and Jesus all the time. They are very proudly conservative. Being conservative is a big part of their identity. There are staunchly pro-life. They couldn't care less if a woman is pregnant because of rape. In their eyes the fetus is a person, a child of God, and deserves to live.

So are they happy with the reported cases of women who are miscarrying a much wanted baby, who need medical care such as a D&C which is prohibited unless the woman's life is in danger? There are videos of women in those situations giving their testimony who can no longer have children due to the delay in receiving treatment.

That's alright then.
And 20 years ago makes it OK too. Right...

What if the person carrying this 'child of God' is a child herself and the baby is a result of incest? Any exceptions for that?

They sound like monsters to me.

The man is a habitual sex offender. I know it because he said so himself.

Well he is, might not be via a criminal charge but none the less, he was convicted.

Does time now count towards mitigation? who knew!!!!

The guy is so crazed he suggested killing the covid virus by ingesting bleach

A judge and jury found that Trump was guilty of sexually assaulting Jean E. Carroll.

They didn't. They found him liable. That's a distinct difference with a much lesser burden of proof.

There was still a jury of his peers who heard all the evidence and agreed that he did rape her.

So do you think that he didn't do it?

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2024 19:47

Only because of New York's definition of rape

As he later summed it up in August, when he dismissed Trump's countersuit: "It accordingly is the 'truth,' as relevant here, that Mr. Trump digitally raped Ms. Carroll."

He's a self confessed repeat sex offender. How much more proof does anyone need?

On top of that, he tried to subvert American democracy by asking officials to "find"Hmm more votes for him in the 2020 election. He then told lies and launched a campaign of intimidation against election officials. Then, he called a riot to try to overthrow the democratic result!Shock

He has no respect for women.
He has no respect for Democracy.

He wasn't found liable of rape, but sexual assault. I don't know if he did it, but he was conveniently accused once he became president. She was a poor witness. At this point I don't care. I don't love Trump, but it tells you how bad Harris is when he is the better choice for the US.

DuncinToffee · 23/10/2024 19:55

When you so casually dismiss sexual assault, it indeed tells you what kind of person would vote for Trump

BustingBaoBun · 23/10/2024 20:08

I cannot believe a female would think that a friend of Epstein, a regular visitor to all his properties, someone who is liable for sexual assault is excused on here with paltry reasons. It's shocking

Well it doesn't tell me that he is the better choice for the US, in fact I can't imagine how he could be much worse. Harris is by far the better candidate.

Anyway, you do seem like an apologist for rape, or at least for sexual assault.

If you had listened to the Americast podcast I posted above - you'd begin to see why our view in the UK is so far off. I have several long standing English friends in several states in the US and they tell me it's even more insane seen close up than it seems to me from across the pond: Trump definitely can win - his private polling suggests that he will: listen to the podcast - Harris is making mistakes and missing opportunities and as postal voting had already started it's probably too late to recover from that.

As much as I’d like to, I’m not able to listen to the podcast right now (too much going on with the kids sadly) but how do you mean his “private polling” suggests he will win? Apologies if I’ve misinterpreted, but that sounds very biased (as in, I can’t imagine Trump telling the world that his private polling says he wouldn’t win, IYSWIM).

I can’t see what mistakes Harris has made - as someone who wasn’t well known, she seems to have played a blinder since Biden stepped down and has raised huge amounts of funding. She was also widely regarded as the winner in the recent(ish) presidential debate.

elprup · 23/10/2024 21:05

EasternStandard · 23/10/2024 09:37

What are you basing this on?

I think a few weeks ago Harris had this but it seems to have waned

I’m basing it on numerous newspaper stories I’ve read in the UK and US media over the last few months, which are unrelentingly negative about Trump and positive about Kamala - that surely must have an effect on voters. A constant barrage of negativity over a long period of time is bound to sway people’s voting intentions in those all important swing states. I’m also basing it on polling information I’ve seen, which puts Harris consistently ahead of Trump.

elprup · 23/10/2024 21:07

I mean, as if to prove my point, I’m fairly sure this story will have lost him a lot of votes alone!

To stop immigrants eating people's pets, obvs. Starmer is completely ignoring the issue.
