There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

We had strange blood stains once, turned out a bird had been caught by the cat, but wasn't dead, so flew around the house an a panic crashing into things, poor thing

HallidayJones6779 · 20/10/2024 05:04

Hope you get to the bottom of this! And the headache eases by morning xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/10/2024 04:44

What have you seen then??? 🫣

😂

MelainesLaugh · 20/10/2024 05:19

I really hope there’s a logical answer

Savingthehedgehogs · 20/10/2024 06:13

I was an intruder once.
It’s possible someone has discovered your house key op. Does your sister have children or teens? A nanny or a cleaner? A decorator.

A cat can’t move milk from the fridge or leave lights on. Nor can a bird or a dog.

I had a spare key cut to my house. As my parents would not let me have one. I used it when they were at work to basically break into my own house during school hours, because the bullying was so bad at school. I also did this when I said I was at a sleepover when my parents went away for the weekend. I think something like this is happening, they have become too complacent as time has passed.
re the milk.

i hope you manage to get some sleep op.

Thenakedwineglass · 20/10/2024 06:30

Another vote for spider poo - have you had a look at the ceiling above the toilet ? I’ve found similar on my toilet / bathroom window sill and always traced back to a spider

Gigihadid · 20/10/2024 06:39

Following because I really hope this is one where we find out the answer

LittleGreenDragons · 19/10/2024 23:37

If there's blood then I would call the police too. At the very least ask them to do a sweep of the property.

Really???

The blood is down to the cat 100%🙄

Courgettesandonions · 20/10/2024 06:47

I'll suggest a couple more theories.

Is there a chance that anyone is a secret drug user? Wondered if someone may have leant upon the toilet cistern to inject their arm?

Could be the remnants of a painful explosive poo that reached the cistern? Did anyone do a last minute dash before leaving for the day?

Could a small animal have got caught in your bathroom extractor fan and then splattered blood that reached your loo cistern?

Jifmicroliquid · 20/10/2024 06:54

I think it’s from an injured rodent.

Sampler · 20/10/2024 06:55

Is it not obvious ? Apart from a ghost obvs, it’s someone who OP has given a key to ?

RedHelenB · 20/10/2024 07:00

SummerFeverVenice · 19/10/2024 23:37

I was just thinking that. You can call police and they will take samples of the blood to test. We had a similar break in and they sent round a forensics technician.

The house hasn't been broken into.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/10/2024 07:02

leafybrew · 20/10/2024 06:46

Really???

The blood is down to the cat 100%🙄

Well, then that cat has got some explaining to do. 😼

LoafofSellotape · 20/10/2024 07:04

Avanet · 20/10/2024 03:59

A poltergeist? Seriously!?

Let's ignore flea dirt (shit made of blood) that has somehow moistened and spread out a bit. Let's ignore detritus (bugs, leaf bits, rust) blowing through the extractor fan or window on an autumn day.

No, go straight to the paranormal.

😂

I like a woo story as much as the next person but my money would be on flea dirt with four pets in the house.

Looks like flea dirt to me too.

Clomid1 · 20/10/2024 00:07

I saw a video on youtube once where a guy kept finding his food eaten and things out of place. He decided to fit a camera in his house. On the footage you see a homeless woman climbing down from the loft, eating his food, peeing in his sink and then climbing back up. It was sooo scary to watch.

Ignoring that scary story, could the blood not have been your husband’s (forgot to clean it as he was rushing out?)

My loft latch is bolted from the outside so I always wonder how that could happen.

Freshersfluforyou · 20/10/2024 07:06

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:57

No, just a clean damp cloth. I'm not an expert but it looks like blood irl. Small browny flecks dried on!

Flea dirt op. When cats have fleas they drop flea dirt which contains dried blood, when it gets damp in the bathroom after someones had a shower it would suddenly look like splashes of blood.

tuvamoodyson · 20/10/2024 07:06

wavingfuriously · 20/10/2024 04:10

😯

Detached house.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 20/10/2024 07:07

I had what looked like blood spatter like that a few weeks ago. It was on my kitchen window ledge inside and loads of it, though not as spread out as yours.

I couldn't see anything other than a spiders web above so assumed it was from that. Have no idea really but couldn't see any other reason for it.

whathaveiforgotten · 20/10/2024 07:10

The spatter is almost certainly flea dirt if that makes you feel better OP.

Google 'flea dirt spatter' and look at the images.

Ginmaker · 20/10/2024 07:14

Is there a spider web above it? When spiders catch flies and munch on them they drip brown gunge.
I washed our white weatherboards outside literally two days ago and the spiders have made a huge mess with fly goo already.

TartfulRidesAgain2 · 20/10/2024 07:21

PadstowGirl · 20/10/2024 00:51

Could DH be having an affair? I know it sounds weird but no weirder than the other explanations? The blood spots look like they've been sprayed, as if someone's coughed them up?

How on earth did you arrive at that conclusion? It isn't just weirder than the other explanations that you've gone straight to affair. It's utterly bizarre 😕

GameOfJones · 20/10/2024 07:22

I know you're scared OP but you do not know 100% that it's blood. It looks a lot like something left by bugs to me. I'm glad 101 are coming round so you can see what the police say.

Blueblell · 20/10/2024 07:28

Doesn’t explain the milk ect but rats have been known to come in through toilets and could have then sat on the top.

Devonjaguar · 20/10/2024 07:32

Could you ask neighbours if they've ever seen anyone going into your house during the working day?

DreamW3aver · 20/10/2024 07:32

Applemayjune · 20/10/2024 00:58

Hmm.

I would definitely check the attic

For what exactly? The OP has said she has no ladders to get inx are you thinking someone. Is up there maybe with their own set of those collapsible ladders to get in and out? That they live silently while there's anyone in the house but pop down for a cup of tea during the day and some artificial light. Most likely a teenageift dweller as they are well known for not putting stuff away and leaving lights on 😁
