There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

@RainbowZebraWarrior doesn’t seem to know about the link between ND and milk intolerance and allergy, assuming this is why your sister doesn’t touch milk. So the suggestion is this is a lame alibi akin to Prince Andrew’s. It’s rather a distasteful analogy tbh (sex trafficking and rape vs drinking milk)

Thank you for the explanation.

She doesn't drink milk because she's been vegan for 20 odd years.

No offence OP , but am I the only one praying that this thread doesn't end up being deleted?

Oh for God's sake it was a joke.

Made before the OP added that her sister was ND.

And I'm Autistic, so don't spout at me about the various crappy health comorbidities I know more than enough about myself thank you.

Could this perhaps explain the blood in the bathroom. Maybe there was a fight?

Buy an amazon or ring indoor camber and set it up by the light switch or milk/kitchen fridge

RafaFan · 20/10/2024 13:36

Reminds me of the novel Broken Harbour by Tana French...that one stayed with me!

madaboutpurple · 20/10/2024 13:37

Are there any teenagers in the house who could be staying at home instead of going to college?

horseHorseHorse · 20/10/2024 13:40

No teens in the family at all!

Wonder if a Neighbour was given the keys by a previous owner or tenant in the past? Maybe a previous tenant. It’s weird af. Hope the cameras find something or it’s going to mess with your heads. (And mine)

I was just thinking that. You can call police and they will take samples of the blood to test. We had a similar break in and they sent round a forensics technician.

Do you honestly think this is a police matter? Blood flecks on a cistern?

PepoAmericano · 20/10/2024 13:44

Do you keep the bathroom window open? Could be from a bird or another animal that got stuck inside maybe?

PepoAmericano · 20/10/2024 13:44

Also if you're not 100% sure its blood, it could be a weird secretion from an insect that lives somewhere in the bathroom

It's not just the blood flecks. It's lights being on when I'm sure I've turned them off, stuff being moved around or going missing, stuff being left out of the fridge when I'm sure it's been put away. It's all a bit weird and unusual and I was genuinely scared last night!

You need to set up motion activated cameras.

Contrastinggrassstates · 20/10/2024 13:49

I think you need to ask your sister. She is the most likely person to know what’s going on. You need to rule her out for certain.

thesoundofwildgeese · 20/10/2024 13:51

Fleas live in carpets and jump onto cats to feed, then drop off. So you may comb for fleas but not find any on the animal. We used to comb our cat on damp newspaper and the blood spots from flea faeces would show up on the paper.

TeaCupSallie · 20/10/2024 13:53

Maybe your sister came in, fed the dog, moved the milk to put the dog food in the fridge, her phone rang, she got distracted and forgot to turn the lights off and left the milk out of the fridge.

How in heavens name did you get the locksmith out on a Sunday morning?!

The OP mentions in her 2nd post on this thread (last night) that her sister had offered to put her up due to her being so scared. So I assume she did actually discuss it with her / asked her and has forgotten. Or there's another sister.

MilesOfCarpetTiles · 20/10/2024 13:55

What if it just stops happening, with your extra measures, and we you never find out what it was?!

AlisonWonderbra · 20/10/2024 13:56

Numerous cameras, a visit from the police, and someone living in the attic? Seriously?

Ilovemyshed · 20/10/2024 13:58

What a complete waste of police time 😂

It takes two minutes to change the locks on a uPVC door (if that's what OP has). We've just bought a house and changed the them ourselves with locks from Screwfix.

I agree. I'd love to know what they said when they got back to the station.
Woman leaves lights on and milk out but forgets that she's done so.
