There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Locks have been changed, the outside camera installed (only wasn't put up because it literally came at 9pm then I was out early the next day)

I hear all of you saying flea muck but I'm horribly allergic to their bites so the animals are treated on a monthly basis and I've been all over them today with a flea comb without finding a single flea. Not discounting it though and will keep checking them!

DH has been up in the loft and says there's nothing amiss, thank god! It's also bolted from the outside now.

Ex lives at the other end of the country and has no reason to come back here (plus he's too bloody lazy)

Only close family have keys and they wouldn't fuck around like this. Plus my parents are disabled and physically couldn't get to the bathroom upstairs. Sister comes daily through the week to walk the dog but genuinely isn't the type to leave lights on or the milk out (she also doesn't drink milk!)

Police came at about 5am, had a quick look around the house and said to phone back if there was any more disruption.

So all a bit weird still. Still feeling a bit unsettled ☹️

It's definitely not flea poo.

Like you, I am hideously allergic to them, and my dog is treated so she doesn''t get them.

I'm 99.999 % certain that it's spider poo or ''Frass'' as @quantumbutterfly correctly calls it.

Contrastinggrassstates · 20/10/2024 12:56

Has your sister delegated the job to someone else or is there someone in her life that might be taking the key? Have you asked her?

Well that's clearly Batshit.

(I'm sorry, I'll get my coat...)

Looks like you've done everything you can to secure your home. Nothing worse than unexplained occurrences. Hopefully you have an answer soon.

MrsSlocombesCat · 20/10/2024 13:02

You didn't mention that your sister lets herself in every day to take the dog out. This changes everything. It's more than possible she sometimes brings someone with her. Does she have kids? I would be quizzing her about this.

When my now 18-year old cat was little, she opened the doors everywhere for the puppy and her own mum. So suddenly all three of them were out in the garden having a great time, or in the laundry room where the cat- and dog food was. Or sound asleep on the bed in our bedroom.

It’s only her left now and she can barely jump up anywhere, but I lift her up anywhere she wants to. She’s a Queen.

This reminds me of one of mum's friends who ''Cat and dog'' sat on Boxing Day - she got in to a scene of carnage.

Fridge open.

Food dragged out.

Turkey carcase and bits of cream and trifle.

Both cat and dog had been sick from gorging on rich food.

Dog was gagging with a bone stuck in his throat {But probably jammed between his upper carnassials as he was able to vomit}

Both needed Out of hours vets on a Boxing Day ..£££

They don't know how the fridge door got opened, but most likely cat, and dog scooped the food out.

Well, yes. Did you ask your sister before calling the police?!

Stopcoughing · 20/10/2024 13:06

Could your sister have left bathroom door open, cat got in and then maybe she shut the door as she was leaving?

TheQueeen · 20/10/2024 13:08

sorry but this changes everything, you have someone going into your home daily, that’s your answer then. The milk you may have left out by mistake, or there could be other reasons your sister took it out of the fridge, sister likely used the bathroom. I don’t see the mystery here

YellowMoth · 20/10/2024 13:08

Check your cat for fleas - blood spots in damp places where your cat has been can often be due to a flea infestation. Google it for more info.

Planesmistakenforstars · 20/10/2024 13:09

SassK · 20/10/2024 12:13

Quite clearly the most obvious explanation is an escaped convicted lunatic murderer living in your loft - lunatic has gone for a dump in your downstairs loo, and the bat has flown out too.
Though don't rule out the idea that the bat could be a shape shifting vampire (you'll have heard of a chap called Dracula - there could realistically be several shape shifters living in your loft.) Have you noticed any mist?
Don't mean to alarm you btw.

Rubbish. It's clearly tiny aliens getting in through air vents in their tiny spaceship.

ladyditaverner · 20/10/2024 13:04

No because apparently the sister doesn't drink milk.

This is becoming the new "Ah, but you see I don't sweat, or I didnt then" for me!

She comes alone and wouldn't mess about like this. Genuinely - she's ND and wouldn't do it as a joke, doesn't drink milk, and doesn't go upstairs unless directly invited.

Ah yes, could be wee alien poop! 😂

Seemso · 20/10/2024 13:12

Hey OP, I can’t explain the other stuff but the blood spots are flea poop.
Had this regular in my bathroom with my cats when I forgot the routine flea drop application.
The tiny flecks of poop fall out of their fur everywhere they go - mine liked to sit in the bath/ drink from the sink. The flecks are so needle point tiny and black they’re probably not noticed/picked up on and if water touches them, they turn into a bigger red drop/splatter kind of thing.
hope this helps.

MightSoundCrassButItsFactual · 20/10/2024 11:30

well, someone has a key and comes in
we have a crazy semi criminal neighbour who has keys for all sorts of things and we kind of know he has been in and out various properties, sheds and garages not taking things or removing things, he is just mentally weird and believes everyone is out to get him, not sure for what. He has never removed anything and even though we know and have had proof for he does, tolerate him because he is not that evil and has kids whom he loves. We installed cameras also which havent shown anything so far

the people on the thread are not crazy, the people entering the property are.
there was someone a year ago posted about their camera picking up the neighbour coming to their garden and removing plant pots and looking under them - most people on here suggested he is looking for a key to enter the property

A rare occurance though, more likely all of other things isn't it? And now a sister is added to the mix 🤔

exactly what happened in my bathroom. They showed themselves after condensation had formed.

At this point, it really doesn’t.

Yeah, but you do need to double check before panicking.

I wish my house would glitch with a tidier, cleaner one.

JamDonutAddict · 20/10/2024 13:17

Yeah, but you do need to double check before panicking.

I can see on the inside camera that she comes in, collects the doggo and goes out. Comes back an hour later, goes into the kitchen for about 60 seconds (checking the water dish) then leaves.

OP posts:
thesoundofwildgeese · 20/10/2024 13:23

OP said that in order to check the loft, a ladder would be needed and they did not have one on the premises. So I am assuming the loft is not fitted with a sliding two or three section drop-down loft ladder or a concertina type loft ladder.

If the loft is not fitted with a loft ladder, if someone was inside the loft they could feasibly open the loft hatch from the inside and lower themselves down to the landing.

However, once on the landing, I would think it would be quite difficult to haul yourself back into a loft without something on the landing to stand on, like a chair, and then remove whatever you had used to stand on once you were back through the loft hatch.

I'd be curious to know how readers who were suggesting that someone might be occupying the loft was getting up and down from the loft when there was no loft ladder (and if there were one, it would need to be one that was easily retractable from above and the hatch would need to be able to be closed from above, too).

TeatimeForTheSoul · 20/10/2024 13:26

horseHorseHorse · 20/10/2024 13:17

I don't know what that means, sorry!

@RainbowZebraWarrior doesn’t seem to know about the link between ND and milk intolerance and allergy, assuming this is why your sister doesn’t touch milk. So the suggestion is this is a lame alibi akin to Prince Andrew’s. It’s rather a distasteful analogy tbh (sex trafficking and rape vs drinking milk)
