There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

A friend of mine had very similar occurrences one month ago - she even found what she thought was her hair spread out on her shower spelling out a nasty word. She had a toxic bitter breakup shortly before but the guy moved to another country so no way it could be him.

It was minor as you described- milk left out, lights on, cupboards all weirdly opened but the cameras showed nothing. She has a very codependent cat and ended up putting it down to the cat causing chaos but I haven't heard anything since..

Without going down THIS route, is there any bad history in your area or house, I highly doubt it's anything sinister but I've recently discovered there mayyy be things out there that DO exist. I stayed over at a friend's house who's nan died days before in the house and very gentle yet noticeable things kept happening in her house. Nothing to write home about..

I personally think an intruder would do more damage than this and they certainly wouldn't be grabbing some milk for their cup of tea

Creatures get through the tiniest spaces. We just got back from hols to find bat poo in the downstairs loo. We know we have them in the loft but how it’s got there I have no idea. Won’t be using that loo after dark though 🎃

Quite clearly the most obvious explanation is an escaped convicted lunatic murderer living in your loft - lunatic has gone for a dump in your downstairs loo, and the bat has flown out too.
Though don't rule out the idea that the bat could be a shape shifting vampire (you'll have heard of a chap called Dracula - there could realistically be several shape shifters living in your loft.) Have you noticed any mist?
Don't mean to alarm you btw.

oakleaffy · 20/10/2024 12:16

@horseHorseHorse Could it be spider poo?

I have seen spider poo that looks like red/brown spatters before especially near windows.

Not my image, but found online.

I have seen ancient spider poop on the head of a rocking horse that we travelled to Eire to collect- he had spent the last 65 of his life in an old barn, {Pic}

Haha that did make me laugh. My post probably wasn't helpful for OP just sharing a strange experience that happened to me. Thankfully I was non the wiser at the time.

That is a beautiful rocking horse, and apparently rocking horse shit is very rare so they don't make a mess, ( unlike spider frass).

I hope everything is okay

Could your ex have taken copies of the keys? I don't want to worry you, and haven't finished reading the thread, but wanted to have it ruled out for you.

I confess I havent read the full thread! I'm assuming your experience was an escapee/warrant out in the loft though, NOT a shape shifter...? 🤞😂

Hmmmm...cats don't typically turn on lights, but definitely don't leave the milk out!!!

Do you believe in the super natural??

Is there a spider web above the area where the flecks of blood were? Ive had blotches of blood like that on my window sill that freaked me out until I realised it was directly under a spider web. Gross, but harmless.

Well that's clearly Batshit.

(I'm sorry, I'll get my coat...)

PuppyMonkey · 20/10/2024 12:35

You’d think if you were a creepy loft dweller hanging out in a house while the occupants were out, the very least you’d do to avoid detection would be to put the milk back in the fridge after you’ve used it and wipe the sink down after you’ve vomited up blood. Honestly, standards haven’t half slipped. Grin

No, just a clean damp cloth. I'm not an expert but it looks like blood irl. Small browny flecks dried on!

Cat flea faeces leave spots of brownish blood on damp surfaces or damp tissue paper, for example.

Some cats can definitely open and close doors. I was looking after my brothers cat last week, and couldn't find her anywhere when I went to feed her in the morning. Eventually found her behind the curtains in an upstairs bedroom with the door shut behind her. She was out the night before

ThePoshUns · 20/10/2024 12:46

My cat used to turn my stereo on by walking in the buttons to wake me up in the morning!

When my now 18-year old cat was little, she opened the doors everywhere for the puppy and her own mum. So suddenly all three of them were out in the garden having a great time, or in the laundry room where the cat- and dog food was. Or sound asleep on the bed in our bedroom.

It’s only her left now and she can barely jump up anywhere, but I lift her up anywhere she wants to. She’s a Queen.

horseHorseHorse · 20/10/2024 12:52

Locks have been changed, the outside camera installed (only wasn't put up because it literally came at 9pm then I was out early the next day)

I hear all of you saying flea muck but I'm horribly allergic to their bites so the animals are treated on a monthly basis and I've been all over them today with a flea comb without finding a single flea. Not discounting it though and will keep checking them!

DH has been up in the loft and says there's nothing amiss, thank god! It's also bolted from the outside now.

Ex lives at the other end of the country and has no reason to come back here (plus he's too bloody lazy)

Only close family have keys and they wouldn't fuck around like this. Plus my parents are disabled and physically couldn't get to the bathroom upstairs. Sister comes daily through the week to walk the dog but genuinely isn't the type to leave lights on or the milk out (she also doesn't drink milk!)

Police came at about 5am, had a quick look around the house and said to phone back if there was any more disruption.

So all a bit weird still. Still feeling a bit unsettled ☹️

Haha! Good one!
Spider frass
Perfect description 👍

It tends to go whitish with age, I asked son what it was, and he said ''spider poo'' - he works in a woodworking workshop where there are spiders aplenty.

CeffylCoch · 20/10/2024 12:56

Have you asked your sister as she comes daily? she could have used the bathroom?
