There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

I agree with PP, thr 'blood' doesn't have a splatter pattern consistent with human blood. Insect frass, or tiny scabs from the cat scratching, is far more likely.

SassK · 20/10/2024 11:10

Chenecinquantecinq · 20/10/2024 11:04

There are some truly mental people on this site 😂those blood spots are very likely to be cat related. Even with the door shut mice can run under the tiniest of gaps. Those spots are similar to what we get when cats bring vermin in. Calling the police expecting them to do DNA analysis you all need locking up you complete idiots on here 🙄

85% saying the OP in NBU. Crazy. Utterly bizarre thread!

Really invested in this thread now, wonder what's in the loft?

Is one of your kids playing truant and coming home?

Yes, I wondered this.
Also, are there any keys within reach of a fishing rod type thing which some thieves can put through a letter flap or small window or other opening? (Some improvise with a hanger.)
With some doors, a thin bendy person can reach in through the letter flap and open them 'from the inside' while outside (I did this when I was younger and locked myself out).
ime a poltergeist won't be after the milk and won't confine actions to when unobserved.

I know! I'm sure all of the conspiracy theorists have to be taking the p*. Otherwise I'm on another planet and people living in lofts, breaking in, and poltergeists are such a common occurance that their possibility is greater than somebody leaving the milk out, light on, a cat/bugs, or a wind up thread. 😂 Oh and conveniently the outdoor camera isn't "up yet", something from Netflix this!

I used to babysit for a young couple on my road when I was a teenager. One morning I woke up and the police had closed the road. Turned out that the woman I was babysitting for was hiding her brother in the loft after he escaped prison. He'd been up there for weeks, gave me the absolute creeps thinking I'd been alone in that house whilst a escaped convict was in the loft. Don't want to be an alarmist but strange shit does happen.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 20/10/2024 11:28

If the locks weren't changed when you bought the house, maybe a (live) previous resident or worker is popping in for a cuppa when in the district.

FWIW I've lived with more ghosts than cats.

well, someone has a key and comes in
we have a crazy semi criminal neighbour who has keys for all sorts of things and we kind of know he has been in and out various properties, sheds and garages not taking things or removing things, he is just mentally weird and believes everyone is out to get him, not sure for what. He has never removed anything and even though we know and have had proof for he does, tolerate him because he is not that evil and has kids whom he loves. We installed cameras also which havent shown anything so far

the people on the thread are not crazy, the people entering the property are.
there was someone a year ago posted about their camera picking up the neighbour coming to their garden and removing plant pots and looking under them - most people on here suggested he is looking for a key to enter the property

quantumbutterfly · 20/10/2024 11:32

If you hear a faint honking it could be a poltergoose.

MightSoundCrassButItsFactual · 20/10/2024 11:33

also usually the police is so overworked and over stretched , you can see they cannot do much. Rusty spots, you mean, where, on the toilet top? Do you have damp, ceiling bits falling off, etc - these are the questions they may ask , then may if you are that lucky that they actually come, ask you what valuables have disappeared, if any ???

chood100 · 20/10/2024 11:42

I found blood specs like this on my toilet closed lid & T-shirt on top of a laundry pile, brown specs, dried blood. It was my cats sitting there and shedding residue from having fleas. The fleas carry blood in them which leaves specs. Comb your pets with fine metal flea comb to see if this could be option. I haven’t read the full thread so sorry if repeat posting.

surreygirl1987 · 20/10/2024 11:43

I can see why you're freaked out, OP - I would be too. I echo previous posters re lots of cameras everywhere so you can see exactly what's going on.

The point isn't that intruders exist (duh). The point is that nothing described by the OP remotely suggests an intruder. To ring the police over examples of everyday forgetfulness and a dirty toilet (a toilet that, in spite of the OP's claim to the contrary, clearly hadn't been recently cleaned - you can see the cat's hair! 😂) IS crazy.

CoCoJones26 · 20/10/2024 11:48

Pretty sure it's just cat fleas.... and general forgetfulness. I really can't believe anyone thinks poster should waste police time for this!

Haggia · 20/10/2024 11:53

Creatures get through the tiniest spaces. We just got back from hols to find bat poo in the downstairs loo. We know we have them in the loft but how it’s got there I have no idea. Won’t be using that loo after dark though 🎃

This is creepy AF. Posting to follow. I would be careful about this until you know what the cause is.

It's making me think of Parasite.

I'd be creeped out. Sorry you're going through it.

@Heylittlesongbird I use the app and the times are always all over the place. I posted before the OP did and that's final.

I'm not commenting any further on this utter nonsense! Grow up! Ridiculous

Did not need to read that! 😑😑😑

If it’s any consolation, he also tidied up and hung the occupants’ washing out for them

Just a thought... Does your sister have teenage children? Skipping school and using your house as somewhere to go?

I can post some screenshots of OPs post and your post 30 minutes later if you like?

@horseHorseHorse I hope you were able to get a decent nights sleep and find out the reason for this and are able to relax in your own home again!

Some people get all the luck, right!

ThePoshUns · 20/10/2024 12:06

I wouldn't have rung the police. They are not going to swab your toilet.
This will likely think you're bonkers.
There is nothing to suggest someone is getting in your house.
The 'blood' on your toilet looks like insect residue .

Why so many swipes at men on this thread? First it's because her husband is having an affair and now it's a man who can't blow his nose properly. Seriously ladies what kind of men have you been dating? 😕

🙄 maybe have a little think before you comment something like this specifically on my post?
Perhaps I suggested her husband was responsible for the blood because she knows she isn’t? And children would say straight away if they had a nosebleed.
Should I instead have suggested a woman broke in, sneezed blood on the cistern and then left? Would that make more sense than it being her husband? I can’t help that she’s married to man. If she was married to a woman do you not think I’d have suggested her wife did it without realising?
