To envy women who found good male partners?

I know not every woman who is married has a good relationship and that its definitely better to be single than in a bad relationship or marriage but there are women with good men and good marriages where they are supported, looked after or at least have the burden of life and all that comes with that shared.

Life just feels so hard on my own, I've been badly let down by men and not had good experiences on the dating apps getting used and ghosted. I do have friends but most are married and have families. Feel like I am aging rapidly and I'll never be loved.

I'm not a bad person and I know I have a lot to offer but I'm not beautiful and it feels like that is all that counts to most men. Why is it some women get it all and others lose out? Sorry ignore me, its just facing another Saturday night alone and fed up with it all.

Even the good ones are ‘diamonds in the rough’ who need proper polishing before being truly good partners. Men are hard work.

I can never fathom why anyone takes this attitude to relationships. Why would you get into a relationship with someone you thought needed polishing? Why would you get into a relationship if you thought it would be hard work? Literally the only point of a relationship should be that it's easy and enjoyable.

This. Getting into a relationship isn’t like buying a house that needs work. If you don’t like a man as they are leave them to find someone who does.

Depends what you mean by 'diamonds in the rough' by the time you get to the living together you should both recognise each others habits and behaviours. You both need to change in order to fit together. So while he may need some changes so will you.

Agreed. “Relationships are hard work” is just gaslighting to make women put up with shitty behaviour. If a relationship started feeling like hard work I’d rather return to singledom.

Very true.

You could say the same about short men. I wonder how many women of average height dismissed a short man and ended up with a tall arsehole!

My DH is quite a bit shorter than average. If he was 5 inches taller he'd have been snapped up long before he met me.

I met my late husband when I was 19 and at teacher training college. We were just short of our 49th wedding anniversary when he died and I had been caring for him for four years with severe dementia.

The vast majority of our marriage was great as he was a very decent man. He was thoughtful and caring and always did his share of household tasks. We had a joint account and jointly made decisions regarding purchases of larger items etc. He loved me and I loved him.

I am now on my own and sometimes get lonely, though I have family nearby and have made friends since I moved here two years ago. However, although I am open to meeting someone for companionship, I don't think I would ever get married again as I enjoy having my own space and the freedom to do what I want, when I want. Also, reading all the horror stories on MN about controlling, selfish, thoughtless men, it has put me off! I could never replace the love of my life.
