Nursery incident. Ofsted?

My DD nursery has dress up women’s fancy hats and shoes from charity shops. Today she was injured by hat pin that was left inside one. It was a large pin that secured a decoration on the hat. Would you report this to ofsted?

No

What was her injury and how did nursery respond?

Greenqueen40 · 18/10/2024 18:28

No! Clearly an accident and I expect they are mortified, I doubt anything like that will ever happen again!

OhHaiOwlInYourTowel · 18/10/2024 18:28

Well before I did that I'd consider what the response from the nursery was. Are they horrified?

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 18/10/2024 18:28

Ofsted would not be interested in this.

Babbadoobabbadock · 18/10/2024 18:29

Why do you think Ofsted would be interested?

BirthdayRainbow · 18/10/2024 18:29

Of course not. Tell nursery though.

Felly67 · 18/10/2024 18:29

Well, I would have thought these types of hats would be checked. It hurt her eye as she was wearing it

No, it was an unfortunate accident and if not part of a wider pattern of carelessness then just one of those things.

Chillisintheair · 18/10/2024 18:29

What was the injury?

Babbadoobabbadock · 18/10/2024 18:30

What do you expect Ofsted to do ?

FknOmniShambles · 18/10/2024 18:30

Ofsted... Ffs! 🙄🙄🙄

AnyFucker · 18/10/2024 18:30

Oh, give over

How did the nursery react? Did they take care of the injury appropriately? Did they double-check all the other play items for safety?

its a fun and creative play activity. An error happened. What you don’t want is for nothing creative to be allowed because there is a small degree of risk.

Hence why what matters is how the nursery responds. If they are taking it seriously and looking to make sure it doesn’t happen again, then I wouldn’t worry about it.

YOYOK · 18/10/2024 18:30

How bad was the injury, did she need medical attention? Did you feel the nursery treated her appropriately and did they remove the hat pin from the children immediately ?

Cupcakegirl13 · 18/10/2024 18:30

Absolutely not what a ridiculous notion !

Smartiepants79 · 18/10/2024 18:32

No.
Have you spoken to them?? What have they said?

Littletreefrog · 18/10/2024 18:34

I would expect nursery to treat the injury, remove the hat pin, remove other items from the charity shop until they have been checked for potential dangerous parts etc. I would not complain to Ofsted unless this is the latest in a string of incidents.

SallyForf · 18/10/2024 18:34

The nursery will look again at playing with non standard items and strengthen the checking process or maybe even decide that this type of dressing up is 'unsafe'. ("Risk assessment for non standard play items") Ofsted won't be interested - unless hospital treatment was involved?

SilenceInside · 18/10/2024 18:34

No, unless the nursery didn't notice a bad eye injury that needed treatment and then minimised the incident to you. So it depends on what they did.

lolablink · 18/10/2024 18:35

Get a grip

Marblesbackagain · 18/10/2024 18:36

I would expect it quite possible a check was conducted by someone unfamiliar with hatpins, hardly surprising, they aren't exactly common.

I would expect an apology but don't waste Ofsted time.

MidnightPatrol · 18/10/2024 18:37

It’s amazing anyone can be bothered to run a nursery given some of the posts I read on here
