Nursery incident. Ofsted?

Felly67 · 18/10/2024 18:27

My DD nursery has dress up women’s fancy hats and shoes from charity shops. Today she was injured by hat pin that was left inside one. It was a large pin that secured a decoration on the hat. Would you report this to ofsted?

OP posts:
cansu · 18/10/2024 19:43

No. It was an accident. What is the long lasting impact of the injury?

Ilovesandwiches · 18/10/2024 19:44

no

Yousay55 · 18/10/2024 19:44

No, I doubt ofsted will be interested. It was an accident.
I hope your dd’s eye is ok.

PathOfLeastResitance · 18/10/2024 19:44

Nope. Do you not understand what the role of OfSTED is? They aren’t a mediation service who people can run to with every thing that goes on.

If a child was injured with a sharp object like that at home and presented to a medical professional I would expect there would be some kind of contact from either a HV and/or SS for a quick follow up to make sure the home environment is safe, don’t see why this would be any different and you could argue that a nursery should actually be safer than a home !

If you were presented to a medical professional after being pricked by a pin, then I'd expect the injury to be considerably worse than just pricked with a pin, so referring on might well be appropriate.

I can't think anyone would go and get it checked out from just being pricked.

cansu · 18/10/2024 19:44

Life is full of could haves. It didn't cause a long lasting injury. I am sure the nursery will check items more carefully now what would be the point? What could ofsted do?

BarbaraHoward · 18/10/2024 19:44

Geez, this is the kind of thing we'd have a laugh with the staff about at pickup, not report.

Accidents happen. They'll happen in your care too.

OTT

dreamer24 · 18/10/2024 19:46

Not as my first port of call, no. Seems a bit drastic. I'd speak to the nursery first and voice my concerns. It does seem like a genuine error.

Right - but OP's DD wasn't injured, nor did she end up seeing a doctor - she just got a bit upset. Why would it need reporting?

Eenameenadeeka · 18/10/2024 19:50

What do you mean when you say injured- did you need to collect her early? Get medical attention? Or was she just hurt but not actually injured. Because I'd not expect a big fuss if it was minor harm and I'm sure they'd learn from it.

timetodecide2345 · 18/10/2024 19:52

Why on earth would you go straight to the government inspection agency? FFS! Just talk to the nursery!

Mylifeupsidedown · 18/10/2024 19:53

the dressing up rail fell on my child and injured her (lump and bruised forehead and bruised back) she was 3. I got notified straight away as an accident and that was that. Never came into my head to report them as it clearly was an accident.
id say if your that upset etc about it then talk to them directly before taking things further.

brambles89 · 18/10/2024 19:57

Nursery informed me once that they'd found a pair of scissors (the baby type to cut baby nails) in my daughters pocket. She'd obviously got hold of it and snuck it in her pocket whilst we were in the bathroom.

Calling ofsted over a pin would be akin to nursery calling social services on me. Totally unnecessary

AbbeyGrange · 18/10/2024 19:59

The more posts about Teachers/Nursery staff I read on MN the more I feel sorry for them, it must be mentally exhausting. I hope your DD is ok OP but you must admit reporting the nursery to Ofsted is over the top. Talk to the nursery manager first.

Or if she got run over by a steam roller or carried off by an eagle.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/10/2024 20:01

I would expect them to treat the injury, call you and complete an incident form.
Personally I would notvwant my child dressing up in random clothes and shoes from charity shops. I would prefer that the children made their own hats.

Go and find a nursery that has all plastic fantastic! In other words one that doesn’t have the imagination to provide experiences that are rich and rewarding! And get a life!

Or struck by lightning or swept away in a tornado

CaneToad · 18/10/2024 20:04

Oh FFS, OP! Parenting is going to be a rough road for you if you're getting your knickers in a knot over this.

Billben · 18/10/2024 20:06

What an overreaction

Ramblomatic · 18/10/2024 20:15

OFSTED, Jesus Christ, best one today 😅

I know I was thing the same. What a lovely activity, and all the good gone out of it.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2024 20:18

Ofsted? Are you on glue?

Silverbook · 18/10/2024 20:19

I'd LOVE to hear the chat in the OFSTED office after you call to 'report' this.
