To think that releasing crickets at a gay rights conference, specifically to shut them down, should be considered a homophobic hate crime? Somehow these people are crowdfunding to do it AGAIN

The optics of having to fumigate a hall after gay people used it to speak about their rights being eroded should not be lost on anyone.

This is CLERLY A HATE CRIME - yet it's being reported as trans rights activists, not anti gay hate mongers, I can't really understand why not

We should be able to say that trans women are not women anywhere we damn well like. Because that's the truth.

Well here you can- and a lot worse besides .

But if you support trans rights you definitely have to mind your p’s and q’s on mumsnet.

Sure. If it's specific bathroom links you want, one has already been supplied with some statistics. If you're talking generally about assaults on transwomen by men, here's a couple:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/sep/19/welsh-teenager-jailed-for-attacking-trans-woman-and-sharing-terrorist-documents

https://www.creditoncourier.co.uk/news/courts/chulmleigh-men-jailed-for-brutal-attack-on-homeless-trans-woman-709615

Obviously I completely condemn this violent attack, but it took place in a park, not a men's toilet.

This a quote from one of those articles -

‘Miss Zoe Kuyken, for Wilson, said there was no suggestion that the victim’s transgender status had anything to do with the attack and that this was not a hate crime.’

You shouldn't have to hide the fact that you don't believe humans can change sex any more than you should have to hide the fact that you believe water is wet, but amazingly we live in strange times where you can in fact be fired for saying women don't have penises, and most of us can't afford to get fired.

I thought we are always being reminded that being gender critical is a protected characteristic these days 🙄

ArcheryAnnie · 18/10/2024 20:49

Whattheactualf19 · 18/10/2024 20:45

Right. So something to hide I guess.

Well, yes - for saying that sex is real, and that lesbians don't have penises, women have indeed been physically assaulted by trans-identified men, been deluged with rape and death threats, been hounded out of their jobs, been denied places to meet, and oh, had trans extremists attack meetings and conferences they attend. For too many women, being able to speak freely is a luxury they don't have.

But by all means feel free to tell us the name on your passport, and the name of your employer, if you have nothing to hide.

People still get fired for having protected characteristics every day. And it took an employment tribunal to confirm that gender critical beliefs are protected by the law.

Not unless you think supporting trans rights means you need to call women TERFs and bigots with impunity, in which case yes, you'll be breaking the talk guidelines. Otherwise you are completely free to post in support of trans rights, as this thread and many others demonstrate.

you really aren’t. You have to be exceptionally careful. Meanwhile you will be the object of relentless personal abuse.

Whattheactualf19 · 18/10/2024 20:36

No one would come on MN and berate someone for only posting about SEN issues and how it affects them.

but that’s understandable.

Why would a woman come on mumsnet and only ever post on trans issues?

Edited

They don't.

Women posting about women's rights and the erosion of them on MN is very understandable. Cos they value their rights.

This is about unisex toilets , it’s not about trans people. The two are different

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/10/2024 20:55

They need to show their working. Absolutely no data.

If you think you are the victim of a personal attack you need to use the report button, like other people do when you call them TERFs.

So one article making vague claims about bathrooms with absolutely no data to show their workings, and two articles with nothing to do with toilets at all?

How does being allowed to use women's toilets keep trans women safer when strolling through the park or sleeping on a park bench?

Putting the language argument aside.

the research that you are talking about is a situation where there are no separate designated male and female facilities.

what we mostly have in uk are separate facilities for men and women but trans people use the facilities associated with their gender- that’s the research you need to look at- you need to look at where this is the case compared to where trans people are compelled to use facilities associated with natal sex.

Why do you think this is different to women talking about women's rights when they talk about how trans rights affect them?

I mean, there's been a LOT of policing of regular posters. Many women got perma banned too by MNHQ.

The reality is EVERYONE has to stay civil and within MN guidelines.

This is a forum for primarily for women, so the default is women talking about women's rights.

A gc woman trying even mention the subject about this on a trans forum would be perma banned within a blink of an eye. No debate.

The reality is trans allies ARE allowed to talk here and are NOT instabanned.

Don't make out you are some how being hard done by. There are PLENTY of places where there isn't even a conversation allowed. Here there is. And tbh it should be allowed everywhere else too - the fact that its not is the problem, because democracy. The fact the conversation is off limits elsewhere, says a lot about how women's rights are viewed and how women talking about women on their own terms without the policing of men.

This is despite the ACTUAL level of understanding and support for how this all works in practical terms in the real world.

Yes, and women have been harmed by women in exactly that situation.

Katie Dolatowski, supposedly a trans women, filmed a 12 year old girl on the toilet and sexually assaulted a 10 year old girl. Both incidents took place in women's public toilets.

So we have evidence that some trans women will take advantage of this situation to harm women, and that's before you even get on to the elephant in the room, i.e. the fact that if a trans woman can stroll freely into a women's toilet, so can literally any man.

Posters can post about what they want. It’s not up to you to police (granted that’s a common TRA theme). By including males in the pool that are ‘women’ it permeates so many other things that affect women only. For the umpteenth time, how can it be ‘trans issues’ when women don’t really care about what trans men get up to? Or are you as I suspect being deliberately obtuse? Threads can have Part 2 btw…
