The Old Bailey heard that neighbours of the family's cramped home in Surrey often heard screaming and the sound of a child crying accompanied by 'banging and rattling' as if someone was trying to alert someone that they were trapped behind a door.
Neighbour Rebecca Spencer said she would often hear screams, crying and then 'deathly quiet' when a distraught child fell silent.

Mr Emlyn Jones said: 'On other occasions Ms Spencer would hear other bangs from the flat and which sounded like someone had been hit or smacked….Ms Spencer did consider reporting what she heard to social services but ultimately decided against it.'
A new tenant Chloe Redwin similarly described hearing a child screaming followed by their Batool shouting, 'shut the f up' and 'go to your room you f b', it was said.
Ms Redwin would also frequently hear the mother refer to children as 'c*', jurors were told.
The prosecutor said: 'On occasions Ms Redwin would hear sounds of smacking; they were shockingly loud and would be followed by gut-wrenching screams of a young female child.
'Over the screaming she would hear the mother shout, 'shut up' and sometimes the sounds of further smacking would be heard followed by shouting.'
None of the neighbours alerted the authorities as Sara seemed 'smartly dressed' and there were no obvious signs of injury, it was said.

Male violence against a female yet again. There's something fundamentally wrong in this world.

Not just this; the woman was involved. That poor girl had several bite marks and one on her inner thigh showed the teeth had been dragged across her skin! The men’s teeth have been checked and don’t match the bite marks but the woman has refused to have her teeth examined. Says it all as far as I’m concerned. I hope they never see the light of day.

More has come out today about the constant cries of a child heard by neighbours, horrific verbal abuse towards the child heard through the walls, smacking heard, screams, banging and rattling.
Shame on every single one of you who ignored that poor child. I hope you can’t sleep at night.

I find this as disturbing as the perpetrators. I would not tolerate this for one day. I would be screaming to anyone who would listen.

Absolutely sickening, how can anyone hear that sort of thing and just ignore it

Crowbat · 15/10/2024 13:34

This is horrific. I hope the many posters on MN who always advise those not to interfere if they see child abuse, take notice.
I find the amount of minimising about child punishment on here upsetting. Posters rightly react against adult abuse so why do some posters on here support child abuse?
Some posters love to give advice on 'punishing' children. I always correct punishment to behaviour management.
Any physical chastisement needs to be illegal in England ( it is in Scotland and Wales)

And all the other adults who stood back whilst he beat the fuck out of her.
Why didn't her school send ss round? Absent from school for 4 months

And school had noticed bruising well before that. Neighbours had also been concerned, but not reported. Stepmum' s sister also knew.

roxyro · 15/10/2024 13:44

Livelovebehappy · 14/10/2024 19:56

I really hope the reason SS and the school were slow to act isn’t as a result of the culture/faith of the family involved.

It will have some bearing on the reason. Girls from these communities are often removed from school and don’t return. It has to stop.

greenday16B · 15/10/2024 13:45

Stepmum' s sister also knew

So she shoulders blame. Disgusting.

itsmylife7 · 15/10/2024 13:48

They lived in a very nice house not flat.

In a quiet road with one house attached to their house.

Little Sarah didn't attend the very local school.

she'd previously attended a school about 3 miles away where they previously lived.

The fact that neighbours didn't report to social services might be due to "other reasons "

greenday16B · 15/10/2024 13:50

Like what?

Its always the same story with these people. I remember Baby P Grandparent wailing and complaining. Take responsibility, fucking do something.

roxyro · 15/10/2024 13:52

I’m concerned that their barristers will get it down to maslaughter. All blaming each other and he’s now denying his guilt, saying he was trying to cover for someone else.

The details coming out today are just as horrendous as yesterday. Such pathological cruelty. I despair. It’s unimaginable how anyone could do such things to anyone, let alone a little girl.

Wellingtonspie · 15/10/2024 13:53

I’d guess for fear or repercussions from the family. A family who would beat their child to death would have no problem giving your head a good bounce.

If it was a house not flat with only one side attached there is only one person at each time that could have possibly reported. A flat would actually make it easier to report as however many other flats could have heard you or their guests when entering or leaving.

No way they're going to get away with this.

MulinoDarco · 15/10/2024 11:26

Exactly. He'll be in the comfy prison for a little bit alongside Arthur's murderer Hughes, and that bitch step mom next to the pink cell of Emma Tustin, they'll watch telly together. Death penalty for child abusers needed. I don't want my taxes to go to their room deco.

Sorry but they need to suffer, not be put to death, it’s too quick.

i remember the Polish couple (he was stepfather) that starved and tortured little Pietr to death. They never explained why and both topped themselves whilst in prison. I hope this trio of monsters suffer every single day.

therealduchess · 15/10/2024 14:05

Surely his note & phone call will be enough admission of guilt to charge the "father" but there isn't a good enough punishment for these three.
I wonder if Sara's mother is in court?

Saphire123 · 15/10/2024 14:07

Some of the details now coming out are just stomach churning.
That poor beautiful child, how she suffered.
There is no punishment too harsh for the three monsters who lived with Sara.
As for teachers, neighbours, anyone and everyone who suspected something bad was happening, and did nothing....shame on you, this child could have been saved, if you had spoken out.

I have as well, made me feel sick, home made hoods, it's the stuff of nightmares. I hope the beautiful girl is at peace, the three adults should be left to rot. It's horrible to think there are children still going through this today, tomorrow and onwards. As a society we should all protect children and not be afraid to report because of religion/ culturally differences.

greenday16B · 15/10/2024 14:13

I'm off here now. But I swear, I have intervened, made myself look stupid on several occasions and would do so over and over again.

Recently I saw a girl of about 10 in nightwear runing around outside a place which houses people from a reugee back ground. I poked my nose in and also Reported in by email, no reply.

Fruitandnuts · 15/10/2024 14:16

Beyond belief that poor girl,
may the 3 adults rot in hell for what they did

Think the step mother refuse to give teeth impressions.
They eliminated the bite marks were not from the males.
All.complicit in this horrific abuse.

Edited

How are people up on a murder charge allowed to refuse such a thing? Bloody hold the evil creature down and take them! Disgusting to think of her 'rights' being respected like that. I feel revolted by our legal system.

Every single neighbour who heard those things should hang their head in shame.

Safeguarding is EVERYONES responsibility. Yes, the blame lies with the bastards who did this to her but as a society we are failing. How many posts do we see on here where someone witnesses something and comes online to ask whether they should report it or not?

If you see or hear anything concerning, you report it. It is not your job to investigate, you report what you’ve seen and you leave it to the professionals to investigate.

I am so angry.

Absolutely.

I can recall one post where a neighbour hadn’t seen a young boy leave the house (only the adults) for months yet could hear the child. So many people on here told the neighbour to keep their nose out. It could be absolutely innocent but it is always better to be safer rather sorry.
