Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

Yes! I've seen Ellie on her own doing guest shows since she left and she comes across like a completely different person - she shines and comes across as really mature and grown-up. I never thought that about her on the show when Vito was always bear hugging and stroking her - he treated her like a doll. He's huggy-kissy with everyone (male and female) but also it must be so overwhelming, especially if you don't like being touched!!

Because Katya was the "victim" so she was AGAIN clarifying that nothing happened of concern (because her 3 or 4 other attempts haven't been believed)

He didn't "put her in this position". They were stood like so many couples are and he moved his hand on her stomach. She politely moved it back. He didn't go for a boob grab or ass smack or anything so bold (although the MN sharks are making it seem like that). He wasn't ensnaring her like a snake as someone else has made out either.

It could have been an attempt at a tickle, like someone standing behind you slowly running their fingers up your back until you laugh or squirm. It could have been a call back to a comment in training about hand position which would make it an inside joke. It could have been pervert's chicken - "how far can I stroke her stomach before she stops me". It could have been a show of ownership, "look Kai. She's mine". It could have been nothing but a moment of simple instinct.

We don't know. What we do know is Katya, the victim, has repeatedly said now that it was nothing to be concerned about, it wasn't dodgy and to focus on his dancing not him. She spoke to a welfare officer and said she was fine. Which means that, right now, we should respect that and believe her.

I'm sure their training sessions will be monitored more closely for the next few weeks, they'll be positioned at the back of the Clauditorium and they'll both be acting very carefully and mindful of their actions because the gutter press will be out in force, analysing their every move.

And if, in 5 years time, Katya turns around and says that, yes actually it was just part of a bigger picture of abuse and inappropriate actions from Wynne and that she had told the welfare officer she was uncomfortable but they just told her to play nice and make the apology, then we can deal with it then.

But right now, it's almost insulting to her to keep insisting she is obviously lying etc etc.

@HelenInHeels Having said that, I actually think it's Sarah who is a bit creepy this year with Vito - I don't get the whole thing with her sniffing his shoes and she comes across as a bit pervy. And it really winds me up that she constantly mocks his accent and mimics him - I just find her irritating in general now!!

She really didn't remotely look like she'd been crying, and her make up was normal for ITT.

I reckon he's a creep. Many men are weird around women that they couldn't attract in real life.

I'm not 'making things up'. This is what struck me immediately when I watched ITT. At that point I didn't know anything about what had happened. As she was talking I thought she looked as though he had been crying.

My feeling is she's had to explain it away as nothing and an "inside joke" because they'll do anything for the bloody votes on Strictly won't they? They practically beg people to call and vote and seem genuinely devastated when they get booted off. The further they get in the show, the better for their career! She knows the public won't want to vote for a gropy perve! Especially in the light of all the Strictly Gio/Graz controversy.

she doesn't come across as a nice person. kissing another guy when married is not nice. her face in the high five stuff, did not look like a joke.
no one knows if it was a gropey move, or what it looked like a mix up, because he was behind her and she moved. she dealt with it politely and really that should be it. unless she says otherwise
yet people who most likely don't even watch the show are jumping on it.

If he is being inappropriate with her and making her uncomfortable then strictly should oust him. They got rid of giovanni who was best thing in the show due to allegations, or he left..not sure which.

I think attractive young men get called out less on predatory behaviour than older less attractive men do,and I don’t think that is right. All predatory behaviour should be called out.

I think the two things are being added together and causing misinterpretation.
The high five thing is a joke. That has been noted and reported prior to this week’s show.
The hand thing is not necessarily indicative of anything more than affection and Katya not liking a hand on her stomach. What woman does?
I have moved my husband’s hand off my stomach before when posing for a photo and his hand had just stretched a bit further than my waist. It wasn’t meant by my husband as a sexual thing and there is no evidence that Wynne meant any such thing by it either.
Close personal contact with norms a bit blurred are standard on Strictly.

I agree with this. I've definitely had moments where my husband (who I adore and fancy the pants off) has out his hand somewhere that wasn't comfortable for me and I've moved it. I saw the "incident" on strictly, and all I saw was man cuddles woman, woman doesn't like his hand placement, woman moves said hand, man accepts the new placement of hand. If this was a one off - and we have no reason to believe otherwise - then the issue has been dealt with and should be put to bed.

I would be inclined to agree with you but if you look at the post-dance interview in the Clauditorium he has his hand around her waist and she is holding his hand on her hip. I don't think this is an isolated incident.

If someone doesn't like being touched I would suggest that Strictly is not a show they should take part in.

Exactly. I've looked at the hand incident again and I really don't think this is worth continuing to make a fuss about. Let the two people concerned get on with their work.

A few years ago, Ruth Langsford straddled her partner, Anton, when he was lying on the floor and everybody just laughed!

That’s why I think there is an undercurrent of ageism and looksism about the fuss being made. You can get away with a lot more if you are young/attractive.

Exactly. Vito is very touchy-feely with his partners. Perhaps it's the Italian side of his personality and clearly his partners are OK with it but it's very full on.

Ultimately, Katya has said she is fine with the situation. The welfare team immediately stepped in and spoke to them both and concluded all was well. Therefore, the "fuss" should end now.

But he isn't. She's made that clear more than once.

It really is quite offensive how many people won't accept that a woman knows her own mind.
