Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

The producers probably feel that they need to explain it away... Yet another harrassment issue, and the show will be cancelled. It's disgusting that Wynne feels that he can do this and quite another thing that the producers aren't taking action.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 14/10/2024 21:57

So we should believe all women when they say they were abused but a woman insists SEVERAL times that she is ok and it wasn't what it looked like and so obviously she's been forced to say it and we shouldn't believe her?

Some people are more touchy feely. And sometimes they don't want to be touchy feely and will politely move a hand or move away or such. It does not mean the other person is a perv or inappropriate.

Ilovetowander · 14/10/2024 22:23

I think this is totally blown out of proportion. This was something that occurred on national tv - all the couples hug and touch each other. The statements that have been issued could be the end of the matter.

H34th · 14/10/2024 22:23

He fitted within the BBC great, didn't he?!

And then SHE is made to apologise.

The issue is this man is spending hours and hours with this woman, dancing. What is the hand up to when the cameras are not rolling. It's not a one-off short encounter.

Can't believe they still expect us to watch this show as a family.

HelenInHeels · 14/10/2024 22:28

I watched the results show just now, I missed it last night. They were part of the first half told they were through and hugged. Also when chatting with Claudia, Katya patted his back and rubbed his arm. I think it's all much ado about nothing and I say this as a woman who's been raped. I've also had to fend off gropes from men when out.

The high-five thing really is a running joke - she leaves him hanging each week - both their reactions were OTT and it was a planned joke. Straight afterwards she 'rejects' him, she holds his hand over her shoulder and they look friendly.

I've watched the the tummy touch a few times - it is weird, especially when it's been slowed down as it makes it seem mega creepy. However, if you look at Wynne's face, it looks he was trying to tickle Katya/make her giggle. It looks like an unplanned and badly judged joke.

But the touchy-feely ness of SCD is ridiculous and should be curtailed - Sarah and Vito are always canoodling for no reason and Pete and Jowita are all over each other. It just creates gossip and scandal and is a massive distraction.

Last year Vito got on my nerves cuddling, kissing and infantilising Ellie.

You're making up sleaze when there’s no evidence for it, I’ve never read such a load of accusatory piffle as what I’ve read on here today.
Stick with CBeebies or will you find something to complain about on there.

HRTQueen · 14/10/2024 22:42

Katya comes across as smart

I simply do not believe she would be so foolish to risk an inside joke that could be so easily taken the wrong way not at this point in time

I do think she is smart enough to know it will be her career that will suffer more if she said well yes I did move his hand as it shouldn’t have been there she will be seen as a trouble maker, diva a woman that creates a fuss over nothing

it was a split second thing. I don’t think she was anything but slightly peeved but why are men being excused for behaving this way

What exactly do you think he's going to be doing in front of the chaperone?

ThisTimeNextWeekDavid · 14/10/2024 23:50

Dotto · 14/10/2024 18:10

This is likely pre-planned / suggested by producers.

It really really isn’t. I promise you.

McCauslandOnSpeeddial · 14/10/2024 23:25

What exactly do you think he's going to be doing in front of the chaperone?

Absolutely.

For clarity, there’s always been chaperones (in the form of producers).

The difference is there is now someone there purely in a safeguarding role, someone who can say ‘enough’ and stop filming.

Marcipex · 15/10/2024 00:09

Odd sort of joke.
She wasn’t laughing, she looked like thunder.

sandyhappypeople · 15/10/2024 01:15

Daisydaisydaizee · 14/10/2024 20:03

If that's the case, she has shown what is more important to her - to work for a show for fane and money when she has to compromise on boundaries and respect. She is a grown up woman and she has made that choice, so matter is settled.

She hasn't compromised anything though? She is a professional doing a job and she asserted her boundary for us all to see, she handled it very tactfully I thought. If she was compromising her boundary for the sake of her job, she would have let him wander his hands and not done anything on camera to stop it.

But unless she wants to come out and SAY that it made her momentarily uncomfortable (which it quite obviously did at the time), then she's really got no choice but to downplay it now, I think trying to say it was a joke though is a big mistake on their part, and what has fueled this fire, if it really was an inside joke (completely inappropriate one if it is!!) they would have explained the joke (he tries to tickle me etc) not just left it open to interpretation, and for people to assume he was copping a feel.

The problem is the participants of this show and the dancers touch and grab each other all the time, there are going to be times when boundaries are crossed either accidentally or on purpose and they then have to either ignore it for the sake of the cameras or adjust themselves accordingly.. that is all that happened here, it really does seem to be blown out of all proportion.

Katya and Wynne have just been talking about it on ITT. She is absolutely insistent that she is neither offended nor upset, and that Wynne is not the kind of man that has been portrayed by this incident. She said they had a running joke and they both regret that it overshadowed the dance and has led to this speculation.

I thought she looked as though she had been crying on ITT. Her makeup was partcuarly thick, as if to cover it.

Tricho · 15/10/2024 04:23

Trumptonagain · 14/10/2024 19:50

Because a handful of people on MN have concluded that she must be lying.

And odder still it's those that 'aren't watching this year out of principle but it SOUNDS TERRIBLE WHAT A PERV'

Remember the old MN adage - women should always be believed - unless her truth isn't convenient for your narrative.

I thought otherwise. I saw nothing untoward about her demeanour or appearance. She wasn't asked anything, she took control of the situation and seemed to me to clarify it and explain.

Ohmychristdawn · 15/10/2024 07:23

It's all the oddest thing. Given the recent events on the show, why would Wynn risk doing something in full view on live tv. It would be career suicide....and yet something did happen and we all saw it with our own eyes. Why didn't he say something on ITT. Why was it left to Katya to comment. If it was an inside joke between the 2 of them, why on earth pick something controversial (if indeed the 'grope' was part of the joke, not just the high 5). It's all very strange. Why can't men just keep their hands to themselves either. Why put Katya in this position. People are vicious towards women and even though she did nothing at all, she still gets the flak.

CatrionaBalfour · 15/10/2024 07:28

They were both spoken to separately, after the event, and asked if either wanted to report anything, or if support was needed. Neither did. They were both asked to clarify events, so they did. Katya was the one doing all the talking on ITT, which I thought was fine.

She's not that smart, remember when she was in public drunkenly snogging her strictly partner Sean Walsh when she was married to a strictly co-star professional dancer and Sean had a long-term partner? both couples split following that.

Her career didn't suffer all that much after that so I doubt she's concerned about this incident effecting her career tbh.
