Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

If she finds him 'off' as you say why on earth would she launch herself at him and wrap her legs around him?

This is likely pre-planned / suggested by producers.

PuppyMonkey · 14/10/2024 18:10

If the sliding hand incident was indeed an in-joke, you do have to wonder wtf they were thinking. Pretending he was groping her so that she gets all cross and moves his hand back? In a climate on this show where there’s been lots of recent accusations of inappropriate behaviour? Yes, that’s really funny guys.

And even if the in-joke is just referring to the high-five thing, why do they think it’s funny pretending to be a bit mean to each other?

Just a bit weird all round TBH.

OOOh OOoh they're on their feet.

Tess is truly unwatchable.

The hand thing wasn't the joke.

The ignoring his high 5 was the joke. One they have been doing every week but apparently nobody has noticed it before now.

because it was in the moment they will have worked for hours to perfect the routine

it was celebrating the dance went well. I doubt many footballers would be happy if their follow team members started hugging and kissing them later on in the match when the euphoria of scoring a goal has passed

UsernameHistoryBook · 14/10/2024 18:16

PrincessScarlett · 14/10/2024 16:20

The difference is that a dance is choreographed and she knows where hands will be placed and consents to that. Doesn't mean she consents to being touched whenever someone decides to touch her outside of the dancing.

I couldn’t agree more.

None of us really knows but they have addressed this issue and said they were larking about so let us give him the benefit of the doubt.

Scandalmongering tabloids make me sick, as if there isn't enough real news to comment on.

Yes this. Lots of people on here trying to speak for Katya. The truth no one except those two know what's gone on so perhaps people need to stop speculating and move on.

thirdfiddle · 14/10/2024 18:16

Looking at the clip it seems to be a complete mountain out of a molehill.

Everyone's moving around. He appears to be carefully and professionally holding his hand at waist level, not above or below. His hand ends up in the wrong place because she sways to her right. She puts it back where she thinks it should be. Something she's probably doing 100 times a day in training.

If there's a joke there maybe a reference to some hand positioning in training too.

The interviews are still part of the performance. Otherwise they wouldn't all be hand-holdy and cuddly with their colleagues in the first place. So Wynne got some of his choreo wrong. I'm sure he'll learn and get it right next time.

UsernameHistoryBook · 14/10/2024 18:19

greenday16B · 14/10/2024 16:36

Agree, maybe there is a gaint invisible hand prodding them. Either that or drugs.

I can’t stand all that stuff. When they get someone to read out the terms and conditions, and at the end when Claudia is finishing off and people are being encouraged to vote, that screeching ‘hilarity’ is off the scale. All these adults jumping and screaming and behaving like toddlers. It is just embarrassing.

I think my strictly relationship is coming to an end after many many years of being a fan.

Dotto · 14/10/2024 17:20

The slow, sliding, wandering hand was obviously not a joke. Regardless of what other things they both willingly choose to do with their bodies, it's acceptable for Katya to remove his hand. Some of these comments are hugely disappointing.

I don't think anyone is saying it isn't – just that it happening in the first place doesn't mean Wynn is some kind of abuser. (And the comparison with Saville is ridiculous, offensive and potentially libellous, I would imagine.)

ladyditaverner · 14/10/2024 18:23

The high five thing was clearly a joke, you can tell by her reaction. The hand on waist thing was something different, can't see how that was a joke unless he said I'm going to see how far I can creep my hand round your waist beforehand and she agreed. Which is also weird.

No I don't necessarily think he is an abuser either, it could well have been simply thoughtless of him.

I dunno - people in this thread calling Katya "cheap", an actress, 'causing trouble'.. Sounds like they disapprove of her moving his hand away because it makes the 'poor innocent man' look bad.

sweatervest · 14/10/2024 18:28

the hand thing was disgusting (I thought). if someone did that to me with their hand i'd be reallly fcuked off.

i hope kai is okay, from a purely selfish point of view as i've got a ticket to see kai doing his thing next year.

I agree

the woman's fault again for not allowing a nice man to place his hands where he feels is ok to place his hands

and people wonder why she is has played this down …. can you imagine if she actually said well I was uncomfortable

biscuitandcake · 14/10/2024 18:36

RareitySparkles · 14/10/2024 14:54

She rolled her eyes at him. If she does find him "off" she is doing no favours to anyone saying its just a joke. That's my thoughts on it. Her face spoke volumes but I'm no psychologist so maybe it is just banter.

But still I think him putting his hand in the middle of her torso, her moving his hand back and seemingly not liking it being just a joke feels off as in idk I feel it diminishes unwanted touching. But that's my take.

Weird "in joke"

Its hard though. Because if she said "actually I didn't like it" then social media will "blow it our of proportion"/he is likely to be piled on. Then there WILL be a backlash blaming her for instigating a witch hunt for what was, after all, "only" an unwanted hand. I can well imagine not wanting someone's hand on your stomach, but also not wanting to be responsible for someone being ripped to pieces on social media, and if she said it was unwanted she would be perceived as giving the green light. But she shouldn't have to stand there and smile either (worst possible but still fairly possible interpretation of his behaviour is that he did it banking on her not reacting for those reasons.)

UsernameHistoryBook · 14/10/2024 18:36

There is something uncomfortable about the idea that because Katya is tactile during dances, she should allow his hands all over her the rest of the time.

It is obviously less severe than this, but it reminds me a bit of how little sympathy sex workers get when they are sexually assaulted: ‘it’s their job’. Or when women get catcalled for wearing miniskirts etc.

Oh that's a fair point. The outrage over her and Seann was ridiculous.

There were two hand incidents. Making light of (I assume) one of them as an 'in joke' doesn't address the other. They all need to be less handsy off the dance floor. Especially this year.

Nobody should be criticised for declining unwanted touch.

greengreyblue · 14/10/2024 18:44

Just looked this up- see no issue at all. She just repositioned his hand- assertive . He wasn’t cupping her bust!

ilovesooty · 14/10/2024 17:03

Are you suggesting he's the kind of abuser Savile was?

No more that people will find an excuse for all sorts

Katya and Wynne have just been talking about it on ITT. She is absolutely insistent that she is neither offended nor upset, and that Wynne is not the kind of man that has been portrayed by this incident. She said they had a running joke and they both regret that it overshadowed the dance and has led to this speculation.

I think that's what Katya was saying.
