Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

Katya and Wynn on It Takes Two now.

No one has the right to touch anyone.

It's always the men who put their arms round the women on that show, not the other way round.

If one of our male colleagues came up to us, hugged us, and slid his arm right round onto our tummy, how would we feel?

This. And all the 'it's normal in Strictly' wth?!

BuzzieLittleBee · 14/10/2024 18:54

She has just directly addressed this on ITT (not in response to a direct question) and clearly wants a line drawn under it. Everyone getting all het up about it is really not helping matters.

Thank you - see my post at 18.51.
I think she seemed to want to draw a line, as you say.

She's said it was some sort of in joke between themselves.

He was, in the results show.

Bournetilly · 14/10/2024 19:02

It was inappropriate and judging by her reaction I doubt it’s the first time it’s happened. I’m shocked how many people think it’s ok.

Katya has made another follow up Instagram story from her home yesterday again saying it was a stupid in joke, she wasn't and isn't offended and can people please concentrate on how well he's dancing (or words to that effect)

I’m a bit confused ( and late to the story) - did she make an instagram post initially to say she DID find the incident unwelcome or creepy and then this was removed or retracted?

whynotwhatknot · 14/10/2024 19:19

no she dint they apologise for the high five joke then she poste this

She thinks it's ok, she's just said so on tv.

nothing like that

awful

xsquared · 14/10/2024 19:30

Katya has mentiined on at least 3 ocassions that it's not what people think it is.

How many times does Katya need to say that she's not offended by what happened before people accept her version of events?

He placed his hand on her belly, she politely moved it back and that was that. Posters suggesting she's repulsed by him or that he was going for boob are wildly exaggerating what happened.

Exactly.

plus the BBC have confirmed they’ve had their welfare team check in with both of them independent to check all is ok and they were reassured.

Ffs
Who watches this shit anyway?

Many many people do. You don't want to fine but, thankfully, you don't decide what is and isn't on tv.

I don't think it is shit. I do think many other tv shows are shit so, surprise surprise, I don't watch them

It's a difficult one. Yes his hand appears to go in a bit deeper and higher than was strictly necessary but I don't think it's actually that unusual on this show. What has drawn our attention to it is her reaction. We probably wouldn't have looked twice otherwise. The directors obviously tell them to cuddle up to their partner, look affectionate and mutually supportive etc. when the camera is on them, and he clearly thought their 'friendship' was far closer than she thinks. He obviously has to have his hands on her all the time in practise sessions and on stage, and I think he just forgot his boundaries for a moment, or misjudged them. I imagine there's lots of endorphins and adrenalin flying around.

I saw her rejecting his high five as well. I don't watch every week so I've no idea if this really is a 'running joke' or not, but her face said otherwise to me. He clearly gives her the ick. She doesn't like him. As far as physical touch goes, she's doing what's required of her professionally, but absolutely nothing more. Any kind of PDA for the camera once off the dance floor, nah. She's not having it.

Realistically you aren't going to get on famously with everyone you are partnered with, there won't always be an easy chemistry, but you have to keep up the pretence for the sake of the show. Katya is barely managing that here.

I think Strictly has had its day. There is too much of this sort of drama and constant over-analysis of everyone's body language and behaviour now. If it was ever once a feel-good show full of wholesomeness, it's now constantly mired in scandal. Accusations of infidelity, bullying or misogyny, backstabbing, he said/she said nonsense. Once that starts to dominate, you can't see any of these supposed 'great friendships' forged between dancing partners as anything other than either sexual, seedy, exploitative, or just completely fake and contrived.

The men involved (both professional and contestants) are going to start questioning if it's worth it, given the risk they run of of being accused of something or other. Made out to be a complete sleaze, or just humiliated on TV by someone who obviously despises you.

Edited

So he touches her in a way she doesn’t like, and now she’s the bad guy for not just putting up with it, but moving his hand and ‘humiliating’ him, lest we forget we all must pander to the male ego. Thank god misogyny is still alive and well.

awful

Brilliant that she called it out immediately. I so identify with her thought process, you can see her disbelief, confusion, decision, action (good on her!) and his complete denial... He isn't even embarrassed and he knows everyone else will just want to move it along, which they did... Awful.
