Wynn Evans and Katya Jones “hand incident”

Can’t see a thread on this.

What is everyone’s view on this? Have spoken to a couple of Strictly fans at work about the seemingly inappropriate touching of Katya by Wynne and am massively disappointed that many think it was harmless and the reaction is disproportionate.

Just sick of pervy men! He did it on camera! He only cared about getting a quick thrill

The whole inside joke thing is obviously bollocks

With everything that has happened on strictly recently they would hardly be looking for that sort of publicity.

Worst case scenario he's a perve and she is enduring it for her job

Best case scenario he was hot and sweaty and she didn't really want his hand on her

Katya has quirky sense of humour. I can well believe the joke.

I must be thick but I don't get the joke?

Can anyone explain it to me?

RareitySparkles · 14/10/2024 14:54

She rolled her eyes at him. If she does find him "off" she is doing no favours to anyone saying its just a joke. That's my thoughts on it. Her face spoke volumes but I'm no psychologist so maybe it is just banter.

But still I think him putting his hand in the middle of her torso, her moving his hand back and seemingly not liking it being just a joke feels off as in idk I feel it diminishes unwanted touching. But that's my take.

Weird "in joke"

aurorabora24 · 14/10/2024 14:54

It's all very odd. The second clip where he goes to high 5 her and she leaves him hanging and turns around with a disgusted look on her face was allegedly 'the joke'.

The hand on the belly was genuine and very uncomfortable to watch.

I noticed when they got through last night he paused and it was her who threw who arms around him. He looked very cautious about touching her again.

If it's innocent and being blown out of proportion then I feel sorry for him. If he's another tv letch then he should be kicked off. I do find it hard to believe he would be deliberately pervy live on air knowing how many cameras are there and how quickly people pick up on this sort of stuff.

Wynne slowly slid his hand across Katya’s body to get his hand in this position. Causing Katya to push Wynne’s hand away.

If my husband did that to a young woman I would be appalled and questioning what kind of perv I was married to

If his dance partner was Ann Widdlecombe would he have placed his hand on the middle of her torso? I think not

Urgh his hand isn’t just placed there, he sort of creeps it across doesn’t he 🤮

Yeah this was the ick part. He was pushing it to see how much he could grab.

in the light of strictly’s press lately you’d think they’d have a policy around this - which kind of makes him look worse.

oldwhyno · 14/10/2024 14:58

I think the question of whether the slide of the hand was inappropriate, is somewhat distracting from the main point, which is that there appears to be a breakdown in their relationship. The denial of the "high ten" was an even bigger and more obvious snub.

Nobody's seriously buying the "it was all a silly inside joke" explanation. People naturally read body language to well to accept that. I mean come on then Katya, what exactly was the joke?

SemperIdem · 14/10/2024 14:59

I don’t think any woman likes a hand being placed on her stomach like that, regardless of the relationship with the man in question. She felt uncomfortable and let him know, I would do the same.

I do think it’s less likely to be “copping a feel” and sheer thoughtlessness on his part. Which doesn’t make it “fine” and it is right he was corrected in the moment.

Doubt there’s more to it than that, to be honest. He’s (probably) not some kind of predator, she was well within her rights to correct his unwanted touch and did so.

The joke is that all the couples on strictly all gush over each other. Katya and Wynn were taking the piss out of that.

It looked like he was inching his hand further and further across her waist, as if he were pushing to see how much he could get away with. The tightening grip must have meant she was also being pulled closer and closer to his body too. The fact his hand didn't stop and continued inching round until she pushed it back suggests she didn't have a choice but to react as he kept on sliding it round, pulling her tighter and tighter towards him.

I don't watch the show but my interest was piqued by the BBC article that didn't explain what the apology was for, and the fact he apparently said something along the lines of 'sorry but I didn't actually do anything wrong anyway'.

I feel sorry for the woman who had to apologise for the fact that other people witnessed her being groped - it feels like the producers have put pressure on her to signal that she's actually fine with being groped and found it funny, when it just came across as creepy and unsavoury.

I8toys · 14/10/2024 15:07

They know where to stand to get on camera. They all try and play up to it - Neil especially. Looks like a daft joke between the two of them. Blown up out of proportion.

NoahsTortoise · 14/10/2024 15:07

I don't think it was a joke but don't really think it was creepy either.

I'm assuming they tell them to put their arms round each other otherwise not sure why all the couples always would? She just placed his hand back where she wanted it - even after he had moved it it wasn't really in a questionable place.

piperatthegates · 14/10/2024 15:07

Katya has made another follow up Instagram story from her home yesterday again saying it was a stupid in joke, she wasn't and isn't offended and can people please concentrate on how well he's dancing (or words to that effect)

Arche · 14/10/2024 14:54

If his dance partner was Ann Widdlecombe would he have placed his hand on the middle of her torso? I think not

If Katya’s partner was young and hot would she have minded him placing his hand on her torso? I think not.

Neil is a running joke in our house. Always there in the background flouncing about but never actually danced.....until this year!! And then the rotten producers give him Toyah and he's kicked out in week 2 😂

Meaning she really doesn’t want to rock the boat and BBC to get rid of her, destroying her career, so please could everyone ignore the perv and concentrate on the dancing.

VisitationRights · 14/10/2024 15:10

I’d love to know what the joke was supposed to be. Maybe creepy perv tries to feel up PYT on live broadcast tv. I think it looked awkward as hell on tv and in no way a joke.

Absolutely, but it is HER choice who touches her.

Exactly, just because something is ok in one set of circumstances doesn’t mean it always is.

Literally every week he goes to high five her and she ghosts him. That's unquestionably a running joke. (Source: the Digital Spy threads where on the second and third week they said "I see Wynne still hasn't got his high 5! Smile"

The other stuff is iffier, but looks to me like he puts his hand round her waist in a "normal for Strictly" way, moves it a bit further forward, she thinks "no that's a bit too much for me actually" and removes it. He goes "oh shit I've overstepped" and is understandably paranoid for the rest of the evening. Viewers see the high ten incident and put two and two together to make six.

But I think that if you saw the starting position and ending position of his hand you wouldn't necessarily see either as problematic in the weird universe of Strictly.

Jesus.....Does being young and hot excuse you from being predatory!

Hoppinggreen · 14/10/2024 15:16

He had dealings with a company I used to work with, allegedly not a nice man.
Nothing sexual, financial but suggests a certain character

If this is true then it's surely the joke they are referring to and it's been dragged up in light of what happened with the hand incident to make some sort of fake drama story.
