What are your thoughts?

OP posts:

I thought it said 'iolo' too and that's a welsh male name.

Anonym00se · 13/10/2024 09:17

Lolo makes me think of Lolo Ferrari, who had the largest breast implants in the world and tragically took her own life in her 30s.

newyear2024 · 13/10/2024 09:17

Lolo sounds like a 90s hip hop artist. If she wants a nick name - she has to do something to earn it and it has to come organically with her pals not her mum. An example would be a wee guy from my local area was the school janitor for years, he was also about 5ft tall and bald on the top. The kids dubbed him 'Janny Devito'

I just didn't capitalize it

On The Big Bang Theory, Howard wants the other astronauts to call him Rocket Man.

He's seen eating children's cereal, so they name him Fruit Loops instead.

Thing is, nicknames are given.

And Lolo sounds like a pole dancer with fivers down her thong.

I think it’s ok, seems to have got a bunch of people extremely riled up though! If you and your child like it ignore the silly wee billies on here.

Interesting thought: ask a question on a public message board and only listen to the answers you like.
Means asking the question is a bit pointless though.
Have to say, I'm not sure anyone posting here is "extremely riled up" about some random person called Charlotte wanting to be called something sounding like "Loh-Loh". Bemused, at the strongest, perhaps?
Or are people who are killing time by scrolling on MN only ever supposed to respond to posts that they feel strongly about or agree with?
Just wondering - not riled.

rainbowstardrops · 13/10/2024 09:28

Pronounced Lol Lol

So now it's 'Lol Lol' and not 'Low Low'?
How can Lolo be Lol lol? Confused

This thread is bizarre and I'm not entirely convinced that OP isn't having a LOL herself!

Marcipex · 13/10/2024 09:32

It sounds like baby talk, but contrived by an adult.
Even lolly or lots would be more natural sounding.

If her friends wanted to call her lolo, surely they would be doing so.
it’s really cringey.

Ellie1015 · 13/10/2024 09:32

Best friend has given the nickname. So if charlotte loves it then it might catch on.

CellophaneFlower · 13/10/2024 09:33

If her friend already calls her that and it catches on, that's fine. It's odd to ask to be called it though. Once a few call her it it's more acceptable to introduce herself as "Charlotte, but my friends call me Lolo".

I like nicknames, I think they're cute, but only if they come naturally from somebody else.

PearlFawn · 13/10/2024 01:39

she is in high school and she wants a nickname

A nickname isnt something you come up with yourself, it’s something others call you, that has developed over time.

CallYourselfAChef · 13/10/2024 09:37

It sounds stupid. can't understand the idea of having a nickname for a child. What's wrong with just a nice, normal name?

johndeer · 13/10/2024 09:38

Having read all your posts OP this has got to be a piss take.

1983Louise · 13/10/2024 09:50

I think nicknames evolve, you can't pick one it doesn't work that way............

KnickerlessParsons · 13/10/2024 09:52

Iolo - first letter i - is a Welsh man's name. It's pronounced Yolo, with a short o sound.

KnickerlessParsons · 13/10/2024 09:53

What's your surname? Can she make a nn out of that?

This has been covered, 45 times or thereabouts.

Lolol, now Loh-loh, but not Low-low. Right. Good luck with that.

Apparently the nickname is Lolo. With a letter L.
The OP said she didn't capitalise the first L. I don't know whether her DD doesn't want a capital letter in her new nickname or something...🤷‍♀️

True.
We might be getting to "Cancel the cheque that Lolo wrote" territory.

NalafromtheLionKing · 13/10/2024 10:04

Loh-Loh is fine, assuming she’s a developmentally delayed toddler or one of the Teletubbies.

garibaldiscake · 13/10/2024 10:11

I know a girl that's officially called Emma but her family call her Miffy. Vair posh.

There's also a bald bloke down the pub called Mullet. Apparently he had a mullet in the late 80s. Everyone knows who he is. I don't actually know his real name.

So call her whatever you like, just don't pretend it's linked to Charlotte in any way!

Doggymummar · 13/10/2024 10:19

My friend got married recently to Barney, but the vicar called him Andrew- I've known them ten years and didn't realise it was from his surname if Barnes. That's how you get a nickname. Not sitting for hours contriving one.

It wasn’t until my Great Grandma died that I realised her name was actually Anne and not Joyce 🤣 made us laugh on a gloomy day

NotTheMrMenAgain · 13/10/2024 10:22

Lolo? As in lolo ball? Is she very bouncy? 🤣

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/10/2024 10:25

As others have said it’s not up to you to choose is it?

I don’t hate Lolo and if she wanted it I would tolerate it. But it sounds a bit porno.
