What are your thoughts?

DD (Lois) had Lolo as a nickname. Until she was about 5, then it sounded childish.

Gillyyy · 13/10/2024 06:34

i think your only options are Charlie, Lottie, Lots, Lola, without being completely contrived.

whiteroseredrose · 13/10/2024 06:41

All I hear is Lolo Ferrari

Me too. Not a role model.

Agree with others that nicknames happen if you start school with a long name. Friends shorten it.

DD went to school with a Charlie and a Lottie but they started nursery with those names because that was what family called them.

LibertyCaps · 13/10/2024 06:42

Nicknames happen organically, they're not a thing one makes happen.

Just started calling her Philip.

It will stick eventually.

HaworthHiker · 13/10/2024 06:43

One of Charlotte Bronte’s nicknames was Talli - I’ve always rather liked that

Crazyeight · 13/10/2024 06:44

If she has a friend called Dave then Chaz works.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 13/10/2024 06:51

Nicknames happen organically. I usually call my daughter Popo even though her name doesn't even have a P in it. I wouldn't tell her teacher that that is how she is to be known at school though.

Diplidocus4 · 13/10/2024 06:52

I read it as Iolo ? Capital I not L
Made me think of Iolo Williams and couldn't understand the link to Charlotte?
I've not slept much ....

Nottogetapenny · 13/10/2024 06:53

Instead of trying to find something from Charlotte (which is a lovely name) Why not try to find a nickname from her middle or surname!

If she goes to school and tells everyone “call me Lolo”, she’s going to get the pee taken out of her.
Nicknames just happen, people generally don’t choose them themselves.

Sounds good.

I know a Charlotte aged 4 who is Lolo and an 8 yo who answers to 'Chattie'. I think I prefer Lolo :-)

amothersinstinct · 13/10/2024 06:59

It's too forced

As others have said nicknames evolve naturally - my daughter has one her school friends have called her since year 1 - not one I had even thought of when I shorten her name myself - but it's perfect and suits her when she is around her friends and is connected to the sounds in her name

She would be the but of jokes if suddenly she announced at secondary school her nickname was to be LoLo

Char, Charlie, Lottie, Lotz

Vallmo47 · 13/10/2024 07:01

3 pages of people saying no it’s not a nice nickname and Op is still defending it - sounds like your mind is made up! Charlotte is a beautiful name, I wouldn’t shorten it. Charlie is a cute Nick though.

AmandaPomander · 13/10/2024 07:02

How about Arlo?

FloofPaws · 13/10/2024 07:02

JLT24 · 13/10/2024 05:02

Lolo is awful.

Lottie, Charlie, Char, Charl are ok.

Edited

These are normal nicknames for Charlotte, at a push Lolly, Lots, Harlo perhaps

Love it!

I don't really understand? How is she going to implement this nickname into everyday usage? Just announce at school "I now want to go by Lolo/Arlo/whatever? Ask a friend to start using it and hope it catches on? And if it doesn't catch on, what then?

You can't choose a NN as a teen, they just evolve or have already been there throughout a child's life anyway...

PearlFawn · 13/10/2024 06:08

We live in the english speaking world so it doesn't really matter

'K hun.

lololulu · 13/10/2024 07:10

Do all her friends call her Charlotte?

Surely they shorten it. My daughter's names are short but I still shorten them more.

Love it!

Why didn't you call Charlotte Arlo then?

I do not get this.

Lottemarine · 13/10/2024 07:13

Personally I don’t like it, but that’s because I am a Charlotte. Growing up I loved Lotte and then Charlie as an adult.

I never really thought about nicknames but now my daughter wants one
