Blackpool pleasure beach

I just visited Blackpool and I Had a nice time going around the beach and activities.

But honestly- Blackpool pleasure beach - what are they thinking! Some of the rides are so old and dangerous, I don't know how they are allowed at all.

It was the first time that I went .

I went on one ride, and it went extremely high. It was like an old fashioned rollrr coaster, but you were sitting on a horse. It's called steeple chase.

. There was the tiniest old fashioned seat belt on the horse, like a car seat belt. Except it was just a horizontal belt. The material of the belt looked old, worn and thin. And it didn't hold you on properly.

You had to grip with your hands onto the handle bars. This ride went extremely high and it was extremely fast and jerky, and i was nearly jerked out of the seat several times. If the ride jerked and you fell out of the seat , you would slip through the seat belt and you would fall a very long way down. I was holding on for dear life. I very nearly came off and fell once.

People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed.

The guy running the ride laughed and said to us "you won't do that ride again in a hurry will you haha". Because he knew it was bad

I saw other rides in the park, where the metal holding the ride up looked completely rusted through.

I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?

@UsernameHistoryBook OMG! The Great Ladybird Plague of 1976! I was by the beach at Bispham when suddenly they were everywhere: Mouth, hair, eyes. Couldn’t get rid of them or away from them. I ran screaming down Red Bank Road and kept going all the way home.

Went from loving ladybirds, to freaking out whenever I saw them - have never got over it, (not really joking😹).

Nobody ever believes me when I tell them, even after I Googled it to prove it was a thing.

Coming back to BPB: I believe there was an ancient kids ride with a Ladybird at the front - never felt quite the same about it afterwards😹

Hurray!! Someone remembers! Thank you 🙏😂

IlovePond · 14/10/2024 18:06

You’re not alone @UsernameHistoryBook - I think my brother was with me too, but I must have left him far behind in my desperation to escape 😹

Here’s an article from the Blackpool Evening Gazette reminiscing about it:

Apparently coastal resorts were worst hit!

That all makes sense now. We aren’t going crazy then!

why would it be a problem that anyone posting here lives in Blackpool or somewhere on the Fylde coast?

See, the way I see it is that as a seaside town on the decline, people slagging off rides by making unsubstantiated claims about a ride's safety and the Pleasure Beach generally can, ultimately, cost ordinary, hardworking people their jobs. The internet has made the world a lot smaller. Sometimes people act on information they have been given via forums like these. I don't really care what you think of me as someone who lives in the Blackpool area but I do care about where the town is at right now and the work being done at so many levels to try to prevent further decline.

Oh, and there are way worse places to live in the UK. Way worse.

I genuinely think the health and safety standards of Steeplechase needs to be improved. I wouldn't have said it if I didn't think it.

It's my opinion and I'm allowed to voice it on mumsnet.

You're stretching a bit to think that anyone complaining on mumsnet - will make anyone lose a job.

People complain about every company on here.

I've just seen a thread where someone said that Ryanair is dreadful. Do you think that will stop people using Ryanair. Or that some one in Ryanai will lose their job?

Nope

Bit of a climb down from originally stating the ride does not meet current safety standards to now thinking they need to be improved don’t you think?

You said you’re just stating your opinion and are allowed to, but you don’t want people from Blackpool offering their opinion and you get upset when you’re challenged by others. Ok for you to be condescending though. ‘Bless’.

And yes the bad publicity that Ryanair gets does actually put a lot of people off flying with them but that’s not even a comparable company to a family owned theme park. You’d know that if you weren’t clutching at straws trying to prove your argument.

Urban myths, opinions stated as fact, and other nonsense on social media can harm a company. A few 1 star reviews can kill off a small business, Ive seen it happen in the local area when some small minded person has had a vendetta. I hope you’ve emailed the park with your concerns so you’re being proactive with your take on modern day ride safety inspections rather than attempt to spread false information on the internet.

@UsernameHistoryBook the same thing happened on Ainsdale beach in the 90s, it was absolutely horrendous! They were in our hair, all in our clothes and picnic food…giving me nightmares just thinking about it! 😬

You don't make any sense.

You consistently insult me for daring to say something negative about the place, which ai am allowed to do

Yet you don't say anything at all - to the many other people on this thread who have said bad things about Blackpool Pleasure beach.

Why is that?
Can you explain that?

OP posts:
Roundthemoon · 15/10/2024 01:32

I said what I said very politely, but after being insulted by the locals on here, I'll say what I actually thought of the place.

Blackpool town is an absolute dump. I saw broken windows and smashed glass everywhere. Why don't you take better care of the town?

Blackpool pleasure beach is the biggest kip of a theme park that I've ever seen. Again, why don't you take better care of it?

You should be ashamed of the state of it.

It's not the locals job to repair windows though is it? There's not much they can do if their town is a mess

It is the local's job.

In my small town we have a "tidy towns committee" made up of volunteers.

Every week, the volunteers go round and repair things like windows, (usually a tradesman will volunteer time to repair specific things like that) the more general volunteers paint walls. They pick up rubbish. They maintain areas. They make sure the streets look good. The local community gets together to take care of the town.

outforawalkbiatch · 15/10/2024 01:41

Most of it is on the people who are smashing windows and dropping bottles and that's not generally locals

TheChippendenSpook · 15/10/2024 05:14

Finally, we have the undertone of the thread brought to the surface.

The threads that slate Blackpool on here are getting boring.

GretchenWienersHair · 15/10/2024 05:28

I remember going on Steeple Chase over and over again as a teenager in the 00s. It was the lack of health and safety that made it more exciting. Will we survive? Won’t we? Who knows!

notbelieved · 15/10/2024 06:18

Why don't you take better care of the town?

People smashing glass are not locals. Just saying.

You can slag us off till kingdom come but your ignorance of the issues facing seaside towns around the country is what shines through here

So it was all faux outrage regarding health and safety..... really you just wanted to slag off the place?
Bizarre

Rantypanties · 15/10/2024 07:58

Wow Hyacinth Bouquet your true colours shine through! You’re not being insulted by locals. Why do you keep saying that? You’ve been asked a couple of times why the opinions of people who live nearby don’t count but conveniently ignore it. Locals should be repainting the town and picking up glass???!!!

It may come as a shock to you but people have actually visited many a time from all around the UK.

You stated the park has no health and safety as fact, people questioned it and instead of backing up your claims you attack every poster who’s disagreed with you. Then go on a reporting spree cause you can dish out your sarky comments and thinly disguised digs at the locals but can’t take any kind of criticism.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/10/2024 19:32

You think Blackpool has issues?
These are the rides on our beach. Base of the big wheel and the roller coaster. Known locally as rusty rides.
I went on these as a five year old- I'm 52 now!

Incidentally I remember the ladybirds. I was four and I remember a carpet of them and the crunching under my feet.

Scariest ride at Blackpool? Derby racer.
Ride I was damaged on? The plain simple wooden coaster. Smashed my knee open as I screamed my way down a drop.

Surely the question should be why do the tourists think they can smash up the place? Generally, It isn’t the residents of Blackpool smashing things up, it’s the pissed up tourists (who live in your ‘nice’ towns).

You have a lot of time on your hands don't you!

How odd!

No one has ever gone back through a thread and pulled every one of my quotes into one post.

You're the first.

Odd behaviour.

Not half as much time as you OP judging by the volume of your posts on this thread and your ongoing determination criticise a ride that others enjoy whilst pretending to be a H&S expert. Such a strange thread, and yet you’re the one accusing other posters of being odd. The irony!

Babadookinthewardrobe · 15/10/2024 22:43

PS no no, I’m not from Blackpool either, just to save you the trouble of telling me I’m clearly a local 😂
