Blackpool pleasure beach

I just visited Blackpool and I Had a nice time going around the beach and activities.

But honestly- Blackpool pleasure beach - what are they thinking! Some of the rides are so old and dangerous, I don't know how they are allowed at all.

It was the first time that I went .

I went on one ride, and it went extremely high. It was like an old fashioned rollrr coaster, but you were sitting on a horse. It's called steeple chase.

. There was the tiniest old fashioned seat belt on the horse, like a car seat belt. Except it was just a horizontal belt. The material of the belt looked old, worn and thin. And it didn't hold you on properly.

You had to grip with your hands onto the handle bars. This ride went extremely high and it was extremely fast and jerky, and i was nearly jerked out of the seat several times. If the ride jerked and you fell out of the seat , you would slip through the seat belt and you would fall a very long way down. I was holding on for dear life. I very nearly came off and fell once.

People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed.

The guy running the ride laughed and said to us "you won't do that ride again in a hurry will you haha". Because he knew it was bad

I saw other rides in the park, where the metal holding the ride up looked completely rusted through.

I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?

I remember being on the River Caves with my parents and we were all sat at the back of the boat and it made it go round like a speedboat! In the middle of the ride we had to try and spread out.

I would have liked to see River caves, but it's shut for repairs this year.

You don't seem to believe anyone on here that doesn't say exactly what you think.

Are you the one that lives in Blackpool

I have added links on previous pages to other theme parks that rides have had serious and fatal accidents were the theme park haven't even get rid of the ride unlike Blackpool. Here you are still complaining about a ride with no record of accidents other then one person saying they or someone they knew fell off- which no one could possibly make up online, right?

If you didn't see the ride layout from numerous other queues on other rides then you must have eyesight problems, also when queuing up, when you get to the top of the stairs you can see the height of that last steeple and could have left instead of mounting the horse. If you felt unsafe, again you could have said, I changed my mind.

You are coming across quite belligerent and not taking reasonably for your own actions, there was no gun to your head.

Lots of posters have also said, it's a safe ride and the seat belt is not actually needed, it's an extra precaution.

I've been twice this year and it's not a huge park, you can see what the ride entails. No I don't live in Blackpool (though you seem to be obsessed with anyone defending it, as living there).

Wow. Very strange people on mumsnet.

It's not that serious pet.

We are not talking about a murder.

We are saying that a ride could be improved. And that many of us felt like we were gping to fall off.

Many people have said that on this thread. Do you want me to count up all of their posts for you?

There's nothing as strange as people.

Jesus christ!

Youre assuming that I've eyesight problems now?

I don't actually. My eyes are fine.

Is the River Cave ride still there? I loved that, I can still smell the smell of it in my mind!

I haven’t been to Blackpool for about 25 years but this thread is giving me a good giggle and I love the description of the rides and shared memories from there.

I do remember going on the steeple chase with my then best friend aged about 14 and the two of us laughing hysterically all the way round, I don’t think it traumatised us! We wouldn’t go on the Alice in wonderland ride as we’d heard horror stories of people falling out/breaking legs etc!

The scariest thing to me was the laughing policeman in the glass box when you walked in - terrifying😂

Good times 😁

lots of very deceptive rides at The Pleasure Beach.
Derby racer: looks fun and for kids: in reality is scary as shit and you feel as though you're about to fall off the whole time.

Flying rockets: same as above.

Steeplechase: same as above.

I wonder was the Alice in Wondrland updated and improved,

because other people on here talked about people breaking their leg on it,

but when you go on it now it seems safe. It doesn't jerk at the top.

They must have put improvements into it.

It’s fine as long as you hold on problem solved

UsernameHistoryBook · 14/10/2024 11:27

I would love somebody to share this memory though it is unlikely. There was a ladybird epidemic in 1976 and the steps down to the beach were covered in ladybirds. Obviously that was not just a Blackpool thing, but I remember it well at the beach. Anyone else?!

And you’re obsessed with stating the park does not meet current safety standards without stating what these safety standards are! That’s unsubstantiated claims you’re making, how can you not see that?

i may not be a policewoman but you are not a theme park safety inspector so stop saying it doesn’t meet todays safety regulations, that’s what making you sound moronic. You know nothing about official theme park safety records/risk assessments/HSE guidelines for theme parks. You honestly think the insurance company would insure a park with no safety checks in place?

100% agree. OP is very odd and dramatic but apparently it's not serious pet could have fooled me with all the posts. 😂

" I was holding on for dear life"

"People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed."

"I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?"

"It's the worst ride I've ever been on, health and safety wise."

"It's terrifying!!"

"Haha . I'm still shook."

"I mean they really should shut it down"

"The seatbelt definitely doesn't meet current safety standards though."

"So with each turn and move -you are jerked and flung forward and nearly off the horse . While you're at a great height."

"I'm still shook days later."

"Yeah my knuckles were white! You really have to hang on for dear life!"

"I had a vice grip on it."

"It's absolutely awful when you're on it. The seatbelt doesn't hold you in properly, it's really fast, youre high up and the machinery is extremely jerky so you are flung back and forth. Imagine flying around a bed and you can feel yourself literally coming off the seat. Holding onto the handlebars with a white knuckle grip is the only thing that stops you falling from a height."

I dont know if you realise but, People are able to read the thread and see all of those posts.

There's no need for you to do a compilation.

There are plenty of other posters on this thread, who have said they have found the ride very scary.

Do you want to go and compile all of their posts into one post?

It wasnt me who said it!!! OTHER POSTERS SAID IT

Go back and read.

Did I ridicule them? Or call them moronic?

No, because I'm not nasty.

What an intelligent comeback.

Genuine question for you. Seeing as you've insulted me so many times for saying that the health and safety standards on some of the rides are dubious.

What's your response to the posters on here who say that they know someone who broke their leg on the Alice in wonderland ride?

What's your response to the poster who said that she fell off the steeplechase ride?

It's the Internet most people lie as you have said in other threads, people are allowed different opinions. Looking at your posts, you like to argue so will leave it to you... no doubt the response will be fantastic, off you go 😂

You don't seem to believe anyone on here that doesn't say exactly what you think.

Are you the one that lives in Blackpool

why would it be a problem that anyone posting here lives in Blackpool or somewhere on the Fylde coast?

See, the way I see it is that as a seaside town on the decline, people slagging off rides by making unsubstantiated claims about a ride's safety and the Pleasure Beach generally can, ultimately, cost ordinary, hardworking people their jobs. The internet has made the world a lot smaller. Sometimes people act on information they have been given via forums like these. I don't really care what you think of me as someone who lives in the Blackpool area but I do care about where the town is at right now and the work being done at so many levels to try to prevent further decline.

Oh, and there are way worse places to live in the UK. Way worse.

@UsernameHistoryBook OMG! The Great Ladybird Plague of 1976! I was by the beach at Bispham when suddenly they were everywhere: Mouth, hair, eyes. Couldn’t get rid of them or away from them. I ran screaming down Red Bank Road and kept going all the way home.

Went from loving ladybirds, to freaking out whenever I saw them - have never got over it, (not really joking😹).

Nobody ever believes me when I tell them, even after I Googled it to prove it was a thing.

Coming back to BPB: I believe there was an ancient kids ride with a Ladybird at the front - never felt quite the same about it afterwards😹
