Blackpool pleasure beach

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 21:25

I just visited Blackpool and I Had a nice time going around the beach and activities.

But honestly- Blackpool pleasure beach - what are they thinking! Some of the rides are so old and dangerous, I don't know how they are allowed at all.

It was the first time that I went .

I went on one ride, and it went extremely high. It was like an old fashioned rollrr coaster, but you were sitting on a horse. It's called steeple chase.

. There was the tiniest old fashioned seat belt on the horse, like a car seat belt. Except it was just a horizontal belt. The material of the belt looked old, worn and thin. And it didn't hold you on properly.

You had to grip with your hands onto the handle bars. This ride went extremely high and it was extremely fast and jerky, and i was nearly jerked out of the seat several times. If the ride jerked and you fell out of the seat , you would slip through the seat belt and you would fall a very long way down. I was holding on for dear life. I very nearly came off and fell once.

People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed.

The guy running the ride laughed and said to us "you won't do that ride again in a hurry will you haha". Because he knew it was bad

I saw other rides in the park, where the metal holding the ride up looked completely rusted through.

I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?

You can see the Steeple chase in action before you get on it so it shouldn’t be a surprise to find it’s a lap belt when you get on. I haven’t heard of any injury/accident on it, certainly not in recent times, and yet that horrific accident happened on the Smiler at Alton Towers not so long ago so old ride doesn’t mean it’s unsafe.

@Roundthemoon how is this ‘severely aggressive’?

Roundthemoon · 13/10/2024 21:52

Rantypanties · 13/10/2024 21:49

Snarky little comments from you to myself and other posters have gone unreported.

You are stating that BPB rides do not meet today’s health and safety standards but you don’t provide evidence of this so is this your opinion or is it fact? If it is fact I’d like to see these reports you’re referring to because if what you are say is fact then this is headline news and the park must be shut down immediately.

I do not believe I’m being aggressive because I’m questioning what you are saying.

I said you calling me "moronic" is aggressive. Which of course by anyone's standards. It is.

Youre obsessed with asking for links and reports. I won't be providing any links/ reports or anything else that you constantly ask for. Are you serious. You're not a policewoman.

The post that I said you were extremely aggressive in was the one where you called me "moronic".

As you well know. I specifically quoted that post when I replied to you.

You're the one that's from Blackpool isn't that right?

That's why you're so defensive. You can't hear anything bad said about your theme park!

Bless.

No, loads of people on this thread have said the steeplechase ride is brilliant, including me and I’m definitely not from Blackpool. It’s not littered with injuries, it’s a thrilling and unusual ride. You clearly don’t like it, so I suggest you don’t go on it again, there are plenty that do enjoy it.

Rantypanties · 13/10/2024 21:56

And you’re obsessed with stating the park does not meet current safety standards without stating what these safety standards are! That’s unsubstantiated claims you’re making, how can you not see that?

i may not be a policewoman but you are not a theme park safety inspector so stop saying it doesn’t meet todays safety regulations, that’s what making you sound moronic. You know nothing about official theme park safety records/risk assessments/HSE guidelines for theme parks. You honestly think the insurance company would insure a park with no safety checks in place?

Roundthemoon · 13/10/2024 21:56

OneTooFree · 13/10/2024 21:35

I actually did fall off the steeplechase in 1996, though to be fair I was pissed. I can remember laying on the ground hysterical with laughter at watching my husband going round looking at me in confusion.
It was the wild mouse ride at either Morecambe or Southport where it flew off the track. I loved that ride too, along with the grand national and big dipper.

Omg! That's awful, I hope you didint fall off a bit that was high.

I have never seen the wild mouse but from the videos on YouTube it looks pretty scary! Those old bone shaker coasters are more scary than the new ones

Im glad you enjoyed it. Im sure lots of people do. Some people have said that theyve enjoyed it on this thread.

Some People on this thread have also said that it's awful, and that they nearly fell off it , or they did actually fall off it.

I was looking at a different thread about Blackpool on mumsnet.

Someone described steeplechase on that thread as

'The one where you sit on a horse about the width of a knife feeling like you're tied on with a bit of old string? '

That's how i felt!

Are you not answering @Rantypanties any more because they disagree with you OP. They’re not being rude, they just have a different opinion. You seem to find that concept challenging.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 13/10/2024 22:04

I sit don’t understand why you are so anti a ride that others like so much. Live and let live! If you don’t like it, you don’t have to go on it.

Isseywith2witchycats · 13/10/2024 22:06

the ride that was in the dark was called the black hole now that one was rickety and scary used to work at Blackpool pleasure beach in the early 1990s and rides then were manually inspected every morning before the park opened i dont know about now

You don't think that her calling me
"moronic "

twice was rude? I do , and it's how I feel, that's important to me

I won't engage with someone who throws personal insults at me.

That's my choice.

There's some great videos on YouTube of all the past rides in Blackpool that have been closed down.

I definitely remember the Gold mine.

OP posts:
Roundthemoon · 13/10/2024 22:08

Did anyone like the Gold mine when that was there?

I used to like that ride. Good memories.

It's a Wallace and gromit ride now.

Why should your claims of the park not meeting current safety regulations not be challenged then? Are we all supposed to just believe you because you said it so it must be true?

I remember being on the River Caves with my parents and we were all sat at the back of the boat and it made it go round like a speedboat! In the middle of the ride we had to try and spread out.

This post is just batty now.
Many PPs have asked for evidence that the ride was actually assessed as being unfit for purrpose from a health & safety point of view, but the OP refuses ior tells people to look it up themselves.
Sadly, this rather tame ride, seems to have become a focus for this poster, who instead of reporting the ride, her 'injuries and trauma' and the Pleasure Beach to the relevant organisations, who can deal with this 'extremely dangerous H & C issue', has turned to an internet forum to share their opinion and is sticking to it despite many saying the assertion is incorrect,.
I doubt the words 'Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been types so many times in one week.

It’s just an internet chat. Mainly of interest to those of us with some nostalgia. I am not sure it needs such intense analysis as yours!

No fortunately, I'd literally just got on.
The ride opened in 1977 for those wondering.
Fancy a thread on rides causing so much consternation and angst.
MN truly is a bonkers place at times 😂

Are you OK? How weird! There are some very strange people on mumsnet!

Your post is so intense and not normal, as someone else has pointed out to you.

This is an Internet forum

Lots of people come on mumsent and complain mildly about things they've experiences. It's a chat forum.

Do you insist that they back up their posts with evidence and reports?

I was also having a nice chat on here with people, about other nice rides at Blacklpool pleasure beach.

Until you came along again. Can you go away now?
